Steelers sign DE Roye Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end
Orpheus Roye to a one-year contract Sunday. Financial terms of the deal were
not disclosed.
The Florida State product spent his first four seasons with the Steelers after
the team drafted him in the sixth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. The six-foot-
four, 330-pound Roye signed with Cleveland in 2000 and spent seven seasons
with the team before being released earlier this year.
Roye has 360 tackles and 18 1/2 sacks over his 11 NFL seasons.... More...
Troy Polamalu made it through a full practice on Tuesday, the AP reports. He had been on the PUP list all preseason due to a sore hamstring. "Were being cautious about how we get him back out there," head coach Mike Tomlin says. "We cant take steps backward as we proceed. Were very conscious of that."
Our View:The four-time Pro Bowl safety has been prone to injuries in recent years. The Steelers can be a stingy defense without him, but we like them even more when he's in there.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes Heath Miller's production could decrease in 2008. Twelve players have caught passes in the Steelers' two preseason games, but Miller was not one of them. Miller said, "I've been out on some routes. As always, the coverage kind of dictates where the ball goes. It's not like I've taken a lot of snaps so far, so I'm not really concerned about it."
Our View:The team drafted wide receiver Limas Sweed, who will provide Ben Roethlisberger with a big target, namely in the red zone. Santonio Holmes is on the verge of a breakout campaign and Mewelde Moore should be active as a pass-catcher as a third-down back, meaning Miller is not likely to top the 47 receptions he made in 2007. He will still be productive enough to rank as a top-10 fantasy tight end.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward did not practice on Saturday after suffering a twisted ankle during the team's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, according to ESPN.
Our View:Not a big deal at all. Ward is playing cautious and is expected to return to practice this week.
