Joe Thornton is iffy to play in Sunday's preseason finale, but he will be on the ice for next week's regular season opener, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Thornton left the Sharks' last preseason game with a minor groin injury.

October 3, 2008
Joe Thornton missed the third period on Thursday night due to a sore groin, but the injury is believed to be rather innocuous, according to The Mercury News. "His groin has been bothering him a little bit and was sore tonight so we didn't think it would be wise to play him in the third," HC Todd McLellan said. "If it were a regular season or playoff game certainly he's playing through it."

Our View:Thornton hasn't missed a game in his two full seasons in San Jose, so the smart money is on him being ready to rumble for Game 1. Heck, the smart money is also on him producing a point in that effort given his total of 302 points in 222 games wearing teal.
October 1, 2008

The San Jose Sharks, fresh off another second round failure in the playoffs, fired HC Ron Wilson on Monday, according to the team's Official Website. “Ron helped foster a new era in San Jose Sharks hockey with some record-setting regular season performances,” said Doug Wilson. “However, ultimately we have decided that it is time for a different voice and a different approach to lead this team."

Our View:The Sharks won two Pacific Division titles during Wilson's tenure and he leaves as the franchise leader in victories in four plus seasons with 206. However, the team continues to have trouble in the post-season, and short of firing the team, this was what the Sharks decided to do as they try to figure out why they continue to fall short of expectations.
May 5, 2008
Joe Thornton finished the playoffs as the Sharks leading point producer with 10 points in 13 games, but that is a far cry from the player who has averaged 1.36 points per game in 222 outings in Teal.

Our View:Thornton played solid hockey and to be fair the vast majority of his points are accrued off his deft passes. But still, the Sharks need more from their superstar than two goal and eight assists in the 13 games if they ever want to considered serious contenders for the Cup.

April 29, 2008
The San Jose Sharks were considered by many to be the favorite to take the Stanley Cup in this year's NHL Playoffs, but they have yet to put their actions behind the beliefs, and now they are facing a daunting 3-0 deficit in their Western Conference semifinal playoff series against the Dallas Stars. Tonight, San Jose managed just 20 total shots on goal in a 2-1 OT loss to the Stars, and while it is difficult to find a place for blame in their shortcomings, center Joe Thornton may be the man to target.

Our View:In three games versus Dallas, Thornton has yet to score a single goal and has posted just eight combined shots on net. He resides as a +1 for the series, but his inability to get the team moving on offense is a concern. Tonight, he launched just two shots against Dallas goalie Marty Turco, and that is not getting it done.
April 25, 2008
Joe Thornton and the Sharks are preparing to take on the Stars in the second round with Thornton looking to put past playoff failures behind him, according to the Sharks Official Site.

Our View:Thornton scored 96 points in 82 games during the regular season, and he added seven points in the Sharks seven game series against the Flames in the first round. However, Thornton has just 45 points in 64 career playoff games which has led some to question his resolve, which is pretty unfair considering the fact that he has 27 points in 29 playoff games as a Shark.
April 14, 2008
Joe Thornton, Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek, the Sharks top line, has failed to produce a single goal as the Sharks trail the Flames two games to one in the first round.

Our View:There is plenty of blame to go around in the Sharks dressing room, but when your top line goes three games without producing a goal, well, you know where the blame starts.
