July 5, 2008 Paul Mara has decided to remain with the Rangers by taking a million dollar pay cut down to $1.95 million on a one year deal, according to Newsday. "I told the coaches and my agent after the season that New York was the only place I wanted to play," Mara said.
Our View:Mara has some skills, but he has never really put it all together. With the addition of Wade Redden, Mara doesn't figure to be on the first power-play, so chances of him substantially increasing last year's point production (17 in 62 games) would seem to be slim.

Our View:He looks to become a free agent on July 1. He will be hard-pressed to find a club to match his $3 million salary of 2007-08, but his experience and power-play skills should still bring him a solid deal.
February 26, 2008 Paul Mara underwent successful facial surgery Monday, according to the NY Post. The defenseman will be out two to three weeks. Mara hasn't been much of a fantasy play since arriving in New York, anyway.
