July 15, 2008 Ray Emery responded to the rumor circulating that he has a drug problem, according to the Ottawa Sun. Emery remarked, "No, I don't have a drug problem. People like to talk. People see you out and if you're associated with anyone that's seen as being like that, it snowballs."
Our View:Emery is slated to play in the new Russian Continental League this season, but is hopeful to return to the NHL soon. There is no evidence to support the drug rumor.
July 9, 2008 Ray Emery will leave the NHL to play in the new Russian Continental League next season, according to the Ottawa Sun. His contract was bought out by the Senators last month, and he has agreed to a one-year deal which could pay him in excess of $2 million plus bonuses next season with Atlant Mytishchi.
Our View:The deal is only for one season, and the 25-year-old should make another run at the NHL. He was once viewed as a future star.
June 24, 2008 Ray Emery has cleared waivers on Monday, and is now an unrestricted free agent after being bought out by the Senators, according to the AP.
Our View:GM Bryan Murray placed Emery on waivers as he could not find an interested team to deal him to. Emery was once viewed as a future star, but only went 12-13-4 in 2007-08, with a poor 3.11 GAA.
