Thomas Vanek scored yet another goal on Saturday, bringing him to 13 on the year and putting him back in a tie with Washington's Alexander Semin for leading the league in goals.

October 23, 2008
Thomas Vanek continued a red hot start to the seson with his eighth goal and third assist as the Sabres beat Minnesota 4-3 on Thursday. He finished with a plus-3 rating.

Our View:Vanek leads all players in goals scored and he clearly needs to be in starting lineups until he hits an extended slump, which may not happen this season.
October 22, 2008
Thomas Vanek scored the winner in the fifth round of a shootout victory over Boston last night.

Our View:Although Vanek didn't show up on the stat sheet last night, he continues to be an offensive force for the Sabres. Keep in your lineup, as he and Derek Roy are having terrific chemistry.
October 20, 2008
Thomas Vanek has been awarded the First Star of the Week, according to the AP. He has scored a goal in all five games this season, notching seven over the span, to go along with two assists.

Our View:The 24-year-old winger has developed a great chemistry with Derek Roy, and should remain a strong source of production heading into the second week of the season.
October 17, 2008
Thomas Vanek continued his blazing start on Friday night as he scored his league leading sixth goal while dishing out two assists in the Sabres 5-2 victory over the Canucks.

Our View:Vanek has scored a goal in each of the four games to start the year, and dating back to last season he has 24 goals in his last 34 games as he has clearly established himself as one of the best goal scorers off the left wing in the NHL.

Thomas Vanek scored twice, one on the power-play and once while the Sabres were short-handed, in the teams 3-1 victory over the Rangers.

Our View:Vanek already has two shorties on the year, he had the first of his career on Monday night, and is off to a simply blazing start with five goals in just three games as he looks to return to the 40-goal plateau he reached in 2006 (he scored 36 times in 2007).
October 10, 2008

September 21, 2008
Thomas Vanek injured his knee on Friday while undergoing a physical as he suffered a pinched nerve, according to the Buffalo News. No other information is currently available.

Our View:Huh? Hockey is a brutally physical game, but you don't often hear about a guy injuring himself while being weighed and asked to "cough." Vanek shouldn't be out based on the tone of the report, but we will have to wait until we get some more specific information.
April 5, 2008
Thomas Vanek capped of an amazingly strong run to the finish line with a hat-trick on Saturday night against the Bruins. Vanek's numbers, 36 goals and 64 points, are a far cry from what he did last year (43 goals, 84 points), but he really turned his season around after the all-star break scoring an almost unbelievable total of 23 goals in 34 games for the Sabres.
April 1, 2008
Left winger Thomas Vanek scored his 33rd goal of the season in tonight’s 4-3 victory for the Buffalo Sabres, sending the Toronto Maple Leafs to the loss column. Vanek has 61 points on the season and has scored eight points in his last seven games.
March 21, 2008
Thomas Vanek continues to give goalies absolute fits as he scored yet another goal on Friday night for the Sabres. Vanek scored only 13 goals in his first 48 games before going on a complete tear with 19 goals in his last 27 games to reach 30-goals for the second straight season (he has 32).
March 19, 2008
Young winger Thomas Vanek posted goals 29, 30, and 31 on the season by netting a hat trick, all scores coming back-to-back-to-back during a flurry in the third period, helping the Sabres complete a tremendous come-from-behind victory over the Tampa Bay Lightening, 7-4. Vanek is just starting to come into his own as a NHL weapon, but 56 points in just his second season in the league is nothing to take lightly. Tonight is another step in that process.
March 10, 2008
Thomas Vanek scored his 28th goal of the season in a losing effort on Monday night. After last seasons amazing numbers which included 43 goals, 84 points and a +47, this years numbers are a big-time letdown (28g, 53 pts. and a -3). However, Vanek has been white-hot since the all-star break with 15 goals and 22 points in 22 games.

Thomas Vanek, Derek Roy, Jochen Hecht and Paul Gaustad all missed practice on Friday, and there's a legitimate concern that they could miss Saturday's game, according to the Buffalo News. "Yes, there is [concern]," coach Lindy Ruff said. "Yes, there is. But we’ll try to address that [this] morning. Yes, there is concern. In all of them. When they miss or they’re going for X-rays, you’re concerned with any of them. I won’t list any names right now, but we have concern." It would help us out a lot more if Ruff would have said what their respective ailments where. Instead, we probably won't know if any of them will skate tonight until game time.
February 17, 2008
Thomas Vanek scored the Sabres lone goal on Sunday night, his seventh goal in his last six games. Vanek is now up to 22 goals after a terrible start to the season, but he is still almost certain to fall short of last year's total of 43 markers. Almost as bad is his current plus/minus of (-2), a full 49 worse than last years mark (+47). Vanek should be able to be a productive player the rest of the season as he does have five game-winners and 10 power-play goals already, so you might still target him in a potential trade if you need help on the LW.
