Our View:Roberts has only two goals and three points in 18 games, but at this point of his career his value to the club resides mostly in his leadership and ability to guide the young players on the club. Don't expect that role to change once he is activated.

June 30, 2008 Gary Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the Lightning, according to TSN.ca. Roberts will be paid a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 regular season.
Our View:He would make $2.07 million if he plays all 82 games, which is a good deal for the aging 42-year-old winger, since he made $2.5 million with the Penguins last season.
