Colorado captain Joe Sakic was given the night off in Friday's 7-4 loss to Chicago.

Our View: He has three assists in the preseason as he prepares for his 20th NHL season. Sakic enters the regular season needing 28 assists to pass Mario Lemieux (1,033) for 10th place on the career list. Sakic is still good for 60-70 points over 82 games, the big question is, how many more games does he have left?

Joe Sakic avoided the strenous workouts of early training camp according to the AP. He supposedly filed for the "old-man rule" which kept him out of some of the rigorous drills his teammates endured.

Our View:Sakic managed just 44 games last season and his return calmed an otherwise turbulent offseason for the Avalanche. The team underwent dramatic changes after being swept by Detroit in the second round of the playoffs. "I see a lot of good possibilities for this team," the 39-year-old center said. Sakic is still good for ne60-70 points over 82 games, the big question is, how many more games does he have left?

Joe Sakic will be back for one more season with the Colorado Avalanche after signing a one-year, $6 million deal with the team today, according to the Rocky Mountain News. “Ultimately it came down to the fact that I still enjoy playing and competing,” Sakic said.

Our View:Sakic, if healthy, is still a player that fantasy owners can count on to produce points. In 44 games last season, he tallied 40 points.
