September 17, 2008 Jamal Mayers impressed his new team recently with just how fast he is on his skates, according to the Toronto Star. "It's (speed training) a priority with me," said Mayers who spent to off-season attending to his lack of explosiveness with special training.
Our View:Mayers is a 33 year old grinder who isn't suddenly going to morph into Pavel Bure, but obviously some extra speed and quickness isn't going to hurt. He is nothing more than a waivers-wire type however, so don't go overboard just because of this news.
June 20, 2008 The Blues have dealt Jamal Mayers to the Maple Leafs in exchange for a third-round pick in the NHL draft, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The Blues now have 10 picks in the draft.
Our View:Mayers played 595 regular season games with the Blues, which ranks 10th in team history. He holds little fantasy value however, as he only scored 12 goals and 15 assists over 80 games in 2007-08.
