Newsbreakers
Mark Mancari, RW Monday 10/6, 11:08 AM CT
Mark Mancari has cleared waivers with the Sabres and has been assigned to AHL Portland, according to the Buffalo News.

Our View: He displayed favorable shooting skills during the preseason, and should see time with the Sabres at some point during the season, but should be ignored in standard leagues for the time being.
Mathieu Darche, LW Monday 10/6, 11:04 AM CT
Mathieu Darche cleared waivers with Buffalo Sunday, and was sent to AHL Portland, according to the Buffalo News.

Our View: The 31-year-old was unable to nail down a roster spot at forward, and will hold no fantasy value if called up at some point during the season.
Ryan Miller, G Sunday 10/5, 6:54 PM CT
Ryan Miller stopped 23 of 25 shots in the Sabres loss to the Red Wings as the club dropped to 2-4-1 in the preseason.

Our View: Miller will play almost every night and rack up this wins, though his ratios might not be anything more than merely average in the coming season.
Adam Mair, C Sunday 10/5, 4:50 PM CT
Adam Mair is finally to a point where his surgically repaired knee will allow him to play in a game on Sunday, according to The Buffalo News.

Our View: Mair, who has missed the entire preseason, holds little fantasy value after a season of five goals and 17 points for the Sabres last season.
Drew Stafford, RW Sunday 10/5, 8:42 AM CT
The Buffalo News reports Drew Stafford suffered cauliflower ear in a fight on Thursday and will be out until at least Monday.

Our View: It sounds like the tough guy will be okay for Buffalo's opener on Friday.
Tim Connolly, C Sunday 10/5, 8:39 AM CT
Tim Connolly will miss his fifth straight preseason game on Sunday due to a sore back, but he expects to play in Buffalo's season opener, reports The Buffalo News.

Our View: Connolly is returning from hip surgery after a productive year last season when he was on the ice.
Nathan Gerbe, RW Friday 10/3, 3:52 PM CT
The Buffalo Sabres sent prospects Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy to the minors on Friday, according to the AP.

Our View: Though just 5-foot-5, Gerbe accumulated 68 points for Boston College a year ago. He was a fifth-round pick in 2005. Kennedy was a sixth-round pick the same year who tallied more than 40 points for Michigan State in 2007.
Ales Kotalik, RW Thursday 10/2, 8:42 PM CT
Ales Kotalik scored a power-play goal in Thursday's 5-2 preseason win over Columbus.

Our View: Kotalik scored 12 of his 23 goals on the power-play in 2007. He is worthy of larger fantasy leagues as a reserve.
Jochen Hecht, C Thursday 10/2, 8:39 PM CT
Jochen Hecht collected a goal and an assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over Columbus in preseason action.

Our View: Hecht scored a career-high 22 goals with Buffalo last season, and is off to a solid start in the preseason. He is worth a look as a backup forward in standard fantasy leagues.
Matt Ellis, LW Wednesday 10/1, 2:39 PM CT
The Sabres have claimed Matt Ellis off waivers from the Kings, according to TSN.

Our View: He only scored three goals and five assists over 54 games last season with the Red Wings and Kings, and will remain a non-factor with the Sabres.
Adam Mair, C Wednesday 10/1, 12:57 PM CT
Adam Mair is set to make his preseason debut Saturday, according to the Buffalo News. He underwent knee surgery during the summer.

Our View: He is a solid member of the Sabres, but holds no fantasy value while serving on the checking line.
