Crosby's second career hat trick lifts Pens over Devils
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Sidney Crosby recorded his first hat trick of the season and picked up four points, as Pittsburgh topped New Jersey, 4-1, at Mellon Arena.

Petr Sykora also lit the lamp and Evgeni Malkin registered two helpers for the Penguins, who have alternated wins and losses in the last seven games.

Dany Sabourin made 29 saves for his third win in four starts.

Michael Rupp provided the only offense for the Devils, whose five-game win streak came to a crashing halt. Scott Clemmensen had a personal four-start win streak snapped after allowing thre... More...

Newsbreakers
Pascal Rheaume, CWednesday 8/6, 8:17 AM CT
Pascal Rheaume has signed with the Devils' minor league affiliate, according to the Star-Ledger. Terms of his deal were not disclosed.

Our View:The 35-year-old Rheaume hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Devils back in 2003, and this will be his fourth stint with the organization.
Martin Brodeur, GSunday 8/3, 4:15 PM CT
The NHL will limit the size of goalies knee pads and clavicle protectors in the coming season, according to the Boston Globe. "A lot of goaltenders wear extraneous flaps," said Glenn Healy, the director of public affairs for the NHL Players' Association.

Our View:Basically, the league wants goalies wearing enough to protect themselves, but not so much that they can just pull up a recliner and stop every shot. It's not a major change, but a few more goals might be scored through the five-hole.
Fedor Fedorov, WMonday 7/21, 4:04 PM CT
The Devils signed center Fedor Fedorov to an undisclosed deal on Monday, the Ticker reports. Federov, 27, was most recently in the NHL in 2005-06 with the Rangers. He spent last season with Dynamo of the Russian League.

Our View:Federov has been far from a dynamo in his 18 career NHL games (two points), and he won't have any fantasy value for 2008-09.
