Meyer nets two as Islanders edge Senators
Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Freddy Meyer finished with a pair of goals and an assist, as the New York Islanders held on for a 4-2 win over the Ottawa Senators at Nassau Coliseum.

Andy Hilbert and Trent Hunter each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who snapped a two-game slide. Joey MacDonald stopped 19 shots in the win for New York, which has won all three contests against Ottawa so far this season.

Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson both lit the lamp and assisted on a goal for the Senators, whose two-game win streak was stopped. Alex Auld allowed three... More...

Newsbreakers
Andrej Meszaros, DWednesday 8/6, 10:32 PM CT
Signing forward Antoine Vermette to a two-year deal leaves defenseman Andrej Meszaros as the only remaining unsigned player, but the Ottawa Citizen reports the team and the restricted free agent are still far apart in negotiations.

Our View:The Senators have about $6.5M in available cap space, so they are not in danger of losing Meszaros to another team if he signs an offer sheet because they would quickly match it. The 22-year-old defenseman reportedly turned down a big offer from a Russian team earlier this summer, according to the Ottawa Sun. Meszaros wants a deal like Lightning D Matt Carle's four-year, $13.2M contract, according to the Sun.
Antoine Vermette, CThursday 7/31, 10:48 AM CT
The Sports Ticker reports that the Ottawa Senators rewarded Antoine Vermette for a career season, re-signing the left wing to a two-year contract Thursday. He recorded career highs in goals and assists last season.

Our View:Vermette, 25, has a good chance to improve on the 24 goals and 29 assists from last year. Consider him a legitimate fantasy left-winger.
Jeff Glass, GMonday 7/28, 11:55 AM CT
The Senators signed goalie Jeff Glass to a one-year deal on Monday, the Canadian Press confirms.

Our View:The Senators are set with Martin Gerber as the starter, but they let Ray Emery go and may have a backup opening. Glass, 22, could be a contender for that job, but he doesn't have fantasy value at this point.
