Toronto's Hollweg suspended for two games
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Ryan Hollweg received an automatic two-game suspension on Monday after receiving his third boarding or checking from behind major in a 41-game span.

The third penalty came in last Wednesday's preseason loss at St. Louis, when Hollweg was assessed a boarding major and game misconduct.

Last season with the Rangers, Hollweg received checking from behind majors and game misconducts on January 5 against Edmonton and February 3 against Montreal.

Hollweg will sit out Toronto's season-opener Thursday at ... More...

Newsbreakers
Jeff O'Neill, WFriday 8/8, 2:33 PM CT
Jeff O'Neill has been invited to the Hurricanes' training camp, according to TSN. Team GM Jim Rutherford said, "In training camp, the door is open for players to make the team. That's the opportunity we'll give him. He said he plans to come in early and work out with the guys. He has the right mind-set."

Our View:O'Neill did not play in the NHL last season, and announced his retirement in 2007 after spending two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his last campaign with Toronto in 2006-07, O'Neill racked up 20 goals and 22 assists over 74 games.
Mats Sundin, CWednesday 8/6, 8:35 PM CT
The NHL offseason continues to move along and veteran winger Mats Sundin has yet to make a decision about his future, according to SLAM Sports. Asked about the status of his decision, Coach Ron Wilson, in town for summer meetings with general manager Cliff Fletcher, replied, "When I find out for sure about Mats Sundin, then I'll worry about life with or without him."

Our View:Sundin remains non-commital about playing or retiring, with agent J.P. Barry saying in recent days that the captain's indecision could be a hint he's not coming back. Though Sundin's overall contributions have been second-guessed in light of the Leafs missing the playoffs the past three seasons, last year he led the NHL in draws taken (1,713) and draws won (945), a 55.2% success rate.
Mats Sundin, CSunday 8/3, 4:34 PM CT
Mats Sundin still hasn't officially decided whether or not to continue his career, but one overlooked aspect of his game that will be lost if he retires is his ability in the faceoff circle, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Sundin led the league last year with 945 faces off wins, 68 more than runner up Bobby Holik. If Rod Brind'Amour hadn't been injured he would have led the league (he finished with 851), and nine of the top-10 draws came from the Eastern Conference (only the Sharks Joe Thornton was from the West).
