Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Hubert "Pit" Martin, who spent 18 years in the NHL with four clubs, including more than 10 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, passed away Monday after a drowning incident in Canada.

The 64-year-old Martin was riding his snowmobile with a friend on Sunday on a lake in northern Quebec near his hometown of Rouyn-Noranda, when his vehicle fell through an area of thin ice. Martin was plunged into the icy water and did not surface. He was pronounced dead on Monday.

Newsbreakers
Ryan Shannon, WWednesday 7/23, 8:11 PM CT
Ryan Shannon was one of six Canucks players who officially agreed to contracts on Wednesday, according to TSN. The others were: Rick Rypien, Mike Brown, Nathan McIver, Zach Fitzgerald and James Sharrow.

Our View:None of these players represents much in terms of fantasy value which is one of the reasons all six are being listed in just one player report. Shannon is the biggest name in the group, but he was limited to just 13 points in 27 games last season.
Jason Krog, CMonday 7/14, 2:34 PM CT
Jason Krog has signed a deal with the Canucks, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View:The 32-year-old center had 39 goals and 112 points in 80 regular-season games with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL last season, and helped them to the Calder Cup Championship. Krog also added 10 goals and 36 points on his way to earning the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as playoff MVP.
Pavol Demitra, WThursday 7/10, 7:17 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, we have now learned the new deal signed by forward Pavol Demitra , joining the Vancouver Canucks, is good for two years, awarding the winger a total of $8 million, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Terms of the deal were not disclosed until late today and we wanted to pass them along. Demitra has 699 points (281-418) in 750 career regular-season games with Minnesota, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Ottawa.
