Hudson strains left hamstringSunday 6/1, 11:52 PM CT
It appears the cramp that Tim Hudson experienced in Sunday afternoon's game in Cincinnati is actually a strained left hamstring, this according to MLB.com.

Our View: Hudson's hamstring will undergo an MRI on Monday according to the report. Updates on his injury are expected to be available on Monday morning.
Figaro throws three-hitter in Low-ASunday 6/1, 11:01 PM CT
Alfredo Figaro threw a complete game shutout three-hitter for Low-A West Michigan on Sunday to improve his record to 7-2.

Our View: Figaro’s 1.22 ERA in 11 starts makes him look like a top prospect until we realize that he turns 24 in July. He is far too advanced to be pitching at Low-A
Arencibia crushes 10th home run for DunedinSunday 6/1, 10:59 PM CT
J.P. Arencibia hit his 10th homer of the season for High-A Dunedin on Sunday.

Our View: Toronto’s top pick in the 2007 draft is now hitting .319-10-49. His 8/38 BB/K leaves room for improvement, but the Jays can’t be too upset.
Church returns with a bangSunday 6/1, 10:59 PM CT
Ryan Church, who had been out of the lineup since he was hurt May 20 trying to break up a game-ending double play at Atlanta, hit a home run and a double in his first start since suffering the head trauma.

Our View: The Mets right fielder didn't get the go-ahead from doctors to play in the field until Sunday morning, and he made the most of his first start. With Carlos Beltran contributing, Church back in the lineup and the return of Pedro, the Mets could find some momentum.
Halman hits 16th home run at High-ASunday 6/1, 10:58 PM CT
Greg Halman went 3-for-4 with his 16th homer of the season for High-A High Desert on Sunday.

Our View: The 20-year-old’s tools never cease to amaze. He is showing that he is ready for Double-A from a talent perspective, but it will be interesting to see how his raw approach at the plate translates vs. better pitching.
Ramirez producing monster numbers for FriscoSunday 6/1, 10:58 PM CT
Max Ramirez hit his 14th home run of the season for Double-A Frisco on Sunday. He is now hitting .376-14-42 this season.

Our View: Ramirez continues to be an absolute monster at the plate. The real question is still whether he can remain at catcher as he moves up. At this point the answer is probably no, but he still has time to improve.
Beltran goes deep againSunday 6/1, 10:47 PM CT
Carlos Beltran hit his second home run in as many games and the New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Sunday night.

Our View: Beltran now has 34 RBI, 39 runs scored, six home runs, seven stolen bases and is hitting .264 on the season. We all know how streaky Beltran can be, and if he can continue to be a threat at the plate, the Mets don't have an easy out in the top half of the lineup.
Kuroda knocked around by MetsSunday 6/1, 10:44 PM CT
The city of New York and Mets fans abound may be begging for manager Willie Randolph's head, but if there is one thing his staff does well it's scout opposing pitchers and plan an attack. Willie and his staff have Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda's number. In two starts this year against the Mets, Kuroda has yet to make it out of the fourth inning.

Our View: On Sunday night, Kuroda didn't make it out of the third inning. The right-hander allowed six runs on seven hits, walked two and failed to strike out a batter in 2.2 innings.
Kemp has three hits but lacks powerSunday 6/1, 10:40 PM CT
Matt Kemp had three hits and drove in the only run for Los Angeles in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Mets. All three hits were singles.

Our View: The Dodgers are 3-22 when scoring three runs or fewer, and have been held to one run or less in six of their past 10 games. Part of this is due to the team overall lack of power. Kemp, a highly touted preseason fantasy option is now the starting center fielder, but he hasn't shown the power stroke that most believed he would. After 186 at-bats, Kemp has only three home runs.
Reyes extends streak to 32 gamesSunday 6/1, 10:35 PM CT
Jose Reyes has reached base safely in 32 straight games, one shy of Darryl Strawberry's single-season club record. Reyes singled in the first inning, stole second, and then scored a looping single by David Wright.

Our View: Jose Reyes extended his hitting streak to 17 games, and finally played a complete game. He was outstanding defensively and continues to look confident at the plate. If Reyes can find June as successful as May, he will overtake Hanley Ramirez as the top shortstop in the fantasy realm.
Santana wins seventh Sunday 6/1, 10:32 PM CT
Johan Santana pitched into the eighth inning earning his 100th career win, and the New York Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Sunday night. Santana allowed a run in the first inning, was struck for six hits, walked three and struck out six.

Our View: The two-time Cy Young Award winner hasn't lost at Shea Stadium since April 12 and lowered his ERA to 3.20 with his Sunday effort.
Kinsler extends hitting streak to 16Sunday 6/1, 9:31 PM CT
Texas' Ian Kinsler stretched his career-best hitting streak to 16 games with a sixth-inning single in Sunday's loss to Oakland.

Our View: Kinsler and Josh Hamilton are on the way to the All Star game.
Hamilton slugs league leading 15thSunday 6/1, 9:28 PM CT
Josh Hamilton hit his American League leading 15th home run on Sunday against the A's. The center fielder recorded two RBI to add to his lead leading 63.

Our View: Hamilton finished 2-for-5 in the loss to the A's scoring twice and raising his average to .328.
Hill misses third straight Sunday 6/1, 9:24 PM CT
Aaron Hill, who left Thursday's game after a collision with shortstop David Eckstein and suffered a concussion, missed his third straight game Sunday.

Our View: Hill remains day-to-day.
Gonzalez hits 16th home runSunday 6/1, 9:07 PM CT
Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 in Sunday's win over the Giants recording two RBI and a run scored. One of his two hits was his 16th home run of the season.

Our View: Gonzalez was 4-for-9 this weekend with five RBI and two home runs.
Wolf earns fourth straight QSSunday 6/1, 9:01 PM CT
Randy Wolf allowed one run on four hits in six innings, but wasn't involved in the decision of the 4-3 loss to the Giants because Tim Lincecum was just as good. When Wolf exited the game in the seventh inning on Sunday neither offense had scored.

Our View: Wolf walked one and struck out five. His effort resulted in his fourth straight quality start. As long as Wolf is pitching in PETCO or roomy venues like the one in San Francisco he is a solid fantasy option.
Lincecum goes seven strongSunday 6/1, 8:57 PM CT
Tim Lincecum was dominate in the first seven innings on Sunday allowing only one runner to reach second base in that span. But he ran into a trouble in the eighth when Jody Gerut led off with a single and Tadahito Iguchi walked to open the frame ending his day. Linecum walked four and struck out only two, which is not typical for the hard-throwing right-hander. Lincecum pitched well enough to win Sunday, taking a shutout into the eighth inning but ended up with a no-decision.

Our View: Lincecum is 5-0 in seven starts following Giants losses and is a top-tiered option in roto formats. However, in head-to-head leagues where wins are king, the Giants right-hander doesn't carry the same value. His performance today and the Giants lack of run support is all the proof one needs.
Lewis records first ever pinch hitSunday 6/1, 8:51 PM CT
Lewis hit a two-run, game-tying triple off Trevor Hoffman, and scored the winning run on Jose Castillo's infield single as the Giants avoided a sweep by beating the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Sunday.

Our View: The ninth inning at-bat resulted in Lewis' first every pinch hit. The Giants outfielder is hitting .275 on the season with ten stolen bases and 34 runs scored.
Hudson swinging a hot batSunday 6/1, 8:47 PM CT
Orlando Hudson hit a three-run homer, his second in three days and sixth of the season. The jolt gave Dan Haren and the Diamondbacks a 3-0 first inning lead which resulted in a 5-0 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.

Our View: Hudson struggled in early May with a hamstring injury, but he appears to be fully recovered.
Conner to miss 3-5 days to quadSunday 6/1, 8:43 PM CT
Conor Jackson is expected to miss three to five days with a strained right quad, this according to the AP. Arizona manager Bob Melvin said Jackson could be available to pinch hit.

Our View: Chad Tracy becomes a Fantasy Week 9 option. He hit a home run on Sunday starting at first base for Conner.
Tracy homers in 'Backs wibSunday 6/1, 8:38 PM CT
Chad Tracy went 2-for-4 and hit his second HR of the season in the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 victory over the Nationals on Sunday.

Our View: Tracy is finding his groove after missing all of April and most of May, but until he finds fulltime at bats his fantasy value is in deep NL-only formats. In Fantasy Week 9, Tracy is a starting option. This is because first baseman Conor Jackson is expected to miss three to five days with a strained right quad.
Bergmann pitches CG on SaturdaySunday 6/1, 8:35 PM CT
Jason Bergmann's eight-inning complete game on Saturday night was the Nationals' first since Aug. 15, 2006, this according to the AP. The 261 games between complete games was the major leagues' longest drought.

Our View: Bergmann has been terrific since being called up and despite his loss on Saturday, he is a must start regardless of opponent in all formats.
Hill bombed in second lossSunday 6/1, 8:33 PM CT
Shawn Hill isn't healthy, not 100 percent at least, and the evidence came in a miserable four innings of work Sunday against Arizona. The Nats right-hander has been taking pain killers and receiving injections for a sore elbow and missed a start last week because of the pain.

Our View: Hill went four innings, his shortest outing of the season, allowing five runs and seven hits. He walked one and struck out three. The velocity on his fastball never topped 88 mph and he appeared to be throwing batting practice to the Arizona lineup in the loss. It's time to dump or bench Hill until he shows he's healthy.
Haren throws seven scorelessSunday 6/1, 8:29 PM CT
Haren was outstanding for seven innings on Sunday helping the Diamondbacks post back-to-back shutouts for the first time since May 26-27, 2006, at Cincinnati. Haren allowed four hits, walked three and struck out five in the win.

Our View: Haren lowered his 3.75 ERA to 3.40 after the effort and won his sixth game of the season.
Guillen starts in left fieldSunday 6/1, 8:16 PM CT
Tigers' manager Jim Leyland continues to be creative with his starting lineups. Carlos Guillen started in left field for the first time in his career as a way for Leyland to get Brandon Inge, Guillen and Miguel Cabrera in the lineup together.

Our View: Guillen was 2-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's win raising his average to .295 on the season.
Batista works five in no-decisionSunday 6/1, 8:14 PM CT
Miguel Batista allowed three runs on five hits, walked four and struck out two in 5.1 innings of work Sunday.

Our View: The Seattle right-hander has been up and down the entire season, mostly down. Batista carried a heavy 5.98 ERA and 1.87 WHIP into today's game.
Bonderman strands nine Sunday 6/1, 8:08 PM CT
Jeremy Bonderman allowed a career-high 12 hits but only three earned runs in seven innings of work. The right-hander was not involved in the decision on Sunday as the Tigers scratched out four runs in the ninth inning to win their 24th game of the season.

Our View: Bonderman managed to strand nine baserunners from the second through the seventh. He still has only one win in his last six starts.
Putz scuffling since injurySunday 6/1, 8:03 PM CT
J.J. Putz began the ninth by striking out Ivan Rodriguez but then walked Brandon Inge allowed Curtis Granderson and Placido Polanco to single giving the Tigers 4-3 lead, and eventually the win on Sunday. Putz suffered his third loss of the season.

Our View: Putz already has two more losses and one more blown save (three total) than he had all last year. His ERA jumped from 3.71 to 5.60, and in 17 games this yar he's allowed 11 earned runs. He had a 1.38 ERA last season, allowing 11 earned runs in 68 appearances.
Miner earns second win in reliefSunday 6/1, 7:56 PM CT
Zach Miner eared his second win of the season by throwing a scoreless eighth inning and the Detroit Tigers scored four times in the ninth inning off struggling J.J. Putz to beat the Seattle Mariners 7-5 Sunday.

Our View: Starter Jeremy Bonderman surrendered three runs and a career-high 12 hits over seven innings in the no-decision. Miner has no traditional fantasy value working in middle relief.
Ordonez lifts Tigers with two RBISunday 6/1, 7:53 PM CT
Magglio Ordonez went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs to help the Tigers start a four-run ninth inning as Detroit outlasted Seattle, 7-5 on Sunday.

Our View: Ordonez has 37 RBI, 34 runs scored and is hitting .329 on the season.
Cabrera's double sparks Tigers to winSunday 6/1, 7:44 PM CT
Miguel Cabrera's two-run double sparked a four-run ninth inning as Detroit outlasted Seattle, 7-5, in the finale of a three-game weekend series at Safeco Field.

Our View: Cabrera was lowered in the batting order recently due to his supposed .276 average. Manager Jim Leyland has tried everything in his black book to get this Tigers team jump started and is again messing with his lineup.
Cust hit's ninth homerSunday 6/1, 7:36 PM CT
Jack Cust finished May hot and began June with the same fire. The A's left-fielder hit a home run and drove in two runs as the Oakland Athletics rallied for a 13-8 victory over the Texas Rangers on Sunday to end their four-game losing streak.

Our View: Cust now has nine home runs, 23 RBI and 29 runs scored on the season.
Feldman goes six strongSunday 6/1, 7:19 PM CT
Scott Feldman allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits, walked two and struck out two in six innings of work.

Our View: Feldman lost what should have been a win when reliever Jamey Wright gave up four runs on two hits in the seven inning before recording an out. The A's went on to score nine seventh-inning runs in a 13-8 victory.
Smith suffers worst startSunday 6/1, 7:14 PM CT
Greg Smith suffered through his worst start of the season allowing seven runs on seven hits in five innings of work. The rookie wasn't involved in the decision as the A's scored nine-runs in the seventh inning for a 13-8 comeback win over the Rangers.

Our View: The rookie lost a run to his ERA on Sunday. He entered with a 2.84 number, but exited the contest with an ERA of 3.56.
Halos rookie earns second winSunday 6/1, 7:05 PM CT
Rookie Jose Arredondo got credit for the victory after three innings of scoreless relief in the Angels 4-3 come from behind over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Our View: It was Arrendondo's sixth appearance of the season and his second win.
Garland escapes lossSunday 6/1, 7:02 PM CT
Jon Garland threw 115 pitches over five innings, matching his shortest outing in 12 starts with the Angels. He allowed three runs on five hits, walked four and struck out three in the no-decision.

Our View: It's begun in a quiet kind of way. Garland walks four this outing, gives up runs in each of the first three innings, and escapes the loss because the Jays bullpen blows the ninth inning lead. The no-decision kept his career record against Toronto at 10-2, but the outing was just the first of many more like this to yet to come. The right-hander has been the benefactor of a high Strand Rate and evidence of that comes from his 2.39 K Rate and 3.14 Walk Rate. Owners that roster Garland should shop him fast while his value is still high.
Burnett stellar in no-decisionSunday 6/1, 6:54 PM CT
A.J. Burnett allowed two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out eight over eight innings. However, B.J. Ryan blew his first save of the season spoiling the Burnett effort.

Our View: Burnett deserved better and Ryan, who has been superb this year after returning from TJ surgery, has to be excused for his first failed save chance.
Ryan blows first save; Jays loseSunday 6/1, 6:48 PM CT
B.J. Ryan hit Howie Kendrick with a bases-loaded fastball in the ninth inning to force in the tying run. One pitch later shortstop Maicer Izturis singled home the game-winner to give the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Our View: It was Ryan's first blown save in 13 attempts this season.
Bautista has three-hits in lossSunday 6/1, 6:45 PM CT
Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 and was the lone bright spot for in the Pirates 7-4 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Our View: Bautista raised his average 12 points (.247 to 259) with the three-hit performance.
Glaus goes deep in Cards winSunday 6/1, 6:42 PM CT
Troy Glaus hit his fourth home run of the season helping the Cardinals' to a 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Our View: Glaus hasn't been the source of power St. Louis hoped for when acquiring the third baseman from Toronto. However, he has driven in 34 this season while scoring 20 runs.
Snell extends losing streak Sunday 6/1, 6:38 PM CT
Ian Snell allowed six runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out three in on four inning of work as the Pirates lost 7-4 to the Cardinals.

Our View: Snell lost his fifth consecutive decision and is 0-5 in his past nine starts. His last win came April 12.
Franklin earns sixth saveSunday 6/1, 6:32 PM CT
Ryan Franklin made the ninth inning of the Cardinals 34th victory of the season exciting. Something that is becoming routine for the right-hander. Franklin got three outs for his sixth save in eight attempts, but not before he gave up a single and double with two outs before retiring Doug Mientkiewicz on a fly to left.

Our View: Franklin isn't the best ninth inning option for the Cardinals at this point, Chris Perez is better suited for the the role. But unitl Jason Isringhausen returns from the disabled list manager Tony LaRussa feels more comfortable with veteran Franklin closing.
Schumaker drives in three Sunday 6/1, 6:15 PM CT
Skip Schumaker drove in a career-high three runs to help the Cardinals to a 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Our View: Schumaker is hitting a solid .289 on the season with 35 runs scored and four stolen bases. However, the Cardinals lead off man will never be mistaken for a five-tool player. The outfielder has only two home runs and 18 RBI in 191 at-bats this season.
Looper helps cause in 7th winSunday 6/1, 6:11 PM CT
Braden Looper continued his torrid hitting and helped his cause on Sunday in the Cardinals' 7-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The St. Louis starter had two singles, scored twice, and drove in a run to raise his batting average to .429 on the season.

Our View: Looper leads all pitchers in hitting this season. Yes, he's better than Micah Owings. On the mound, Looper wasn't as good in the win. He allowed eights hits on three runs, walked three and struck out only one in 5.2 innings of work.
Chacon yanked after hitting twoSunday 6/1, 6:05 PM CT
Shawn Chacon allowed just two hits but issued two walks and hit two batters with pitches in the first inning of Sunday's loss to the Brewers. Chacon was pulled after throwing 40 pitches in one inning of work. "He just struggled in that inning after that blown call by the umpire," Houston manager Cecil Cooper said, noted the AP. "I thought it was the best thing to take him out right there."

Our View: Chacon, has pitched above expectations and his career peripherals in May, so a performance like today shouldn't surprise veteran fantasy owners.
Branyan hits third HRSunday 6/1, 6:02 PM CT
Russell Branyan hit his second home run in the weekend series against the Astros and Milwaukee scored a 10-1 victory on Sunday recording a three-game sweep of Houston.

Our View: Branyan and several other backups were in the lineup as Rickie Weeks, Mike Cameron and J.J. Hardy all got a day off.
Bush cruises in second straight winSunday 6/1, 5:58 PM CT
Dave Bush allowed one run on four hits, walked none and struck out five in seven innings as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Houston Astros 10-1 on Sunday.

Our View: Bush, who recently made a mechanical adjustment in his delivery, has increased the velocity 2-3 mph on his fastball and has produced two straight solid outings. If the Brewers' right-hander is available -- find a spot for him on your roster.
Braun hits 15th in Brew Crew winSunday 6/1, 5:54 PM CT
Ryan Braun went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs helping the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Houston Astros 10-1 to finish off a sweep of the weekend series. Braun's only hit was a home run, his second of the series and his 15th of the season.

Our View: Braun has warmed since scuffling in April. The left-fielder has 30 runs, 42 RBI, two stolen bases and is hitting .297 on the season.
Jimenez loses sixth of the seasonSunday 6/1, 5:48 PM CT
Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez remained winless since April 8 as the Chicago Cubs scored a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, walked three and struck out five over five innings.

Our View: He's 0-5 in his last 10 starts, and the Rockies are 1-11 in games he's pitched. That said, the kid has upside. Don't let the ERA and the current losing streak fool you, Ubaldo Jimenez has pitched well lately. He has three quality starts in his last five trips to the mound. Throw out his last start against the Phillies. The wind was blowing out to center field in Philly with gusts up to 30 mph -- and he isn't experienced enough to pitch to those elements. And in today's loss to the Cubs he showed his dominate ability at times. Absent his start in Philly, Jimenez recorded a 3.16 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and a K/9 of 7.3 in May. He also kept his walk totals in-check registering a K/BB of 2.33.
Cubs rookie dominate in third winSunday 6/1, 5:43 PM CT
Chicago rookie Sean Gallagher allowed three runs on six hits, walked none and struck out eight in 5.2 innings of work, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday.

Our View: The strongest part of the rookies arsenal is his ability to induce ground balls. Gallagher had solid peripherals throughout his minor league career except for his Walk Rate (typical of a young pitcher). He's been able to harness his command and retain his extremely low HR Rate. Gallagher is a solid option in NL-only formats.
Edmonds earns everyday role Sunday 6/1, 5:34 PM CT
Jim Edmonds has found a new home, and in the unlikely colors of blue. Edmonds, tripled and drove in two runs as the Chicago Cubs beat the injury riddled Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday to complete a perfect seven-game homestand. Since arriving in Chicago Edmonds has hit .300 with one home run and 5 RBI, and he's accomplished this in 11 games.

Our View: Edmonds has earned the everyday role as the Cubs center fielder, and at the expense of a productive Reed Johnson who was picked off the wire from Toronto in early May.
Soriano continues hitting tearSunday 6/1, 5:26 PM CT
Alfonso Soriano went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and the Chicago Cubs, best home team in baseball, defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. The victory was the Cubs seventh straight.

Our View: Soriano homered and drove in three runs Saturday to help the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 5-4 for their sixth straight win.
Burres roughed up by Red SoxSunday 6/1, 5:21 PM CT
Brian Burres allowed seven runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out two, lasting only four innings in a 9-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Our View: Over his last two starts, the left-hander has surrendered 15 runs and 22 hits. Not what owners wanted from the Fantasy Week 9 two-start pitcher.
Drew goes yard in Sox winSunday 6/1, 5:10 PM CT
J.D. Drew went 2-for-3 with three RBI and the Boston Red Sox won their 35th game of the season in a 9-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Our View: Drew has missed 14 of the Red Sox 59 games this year due to one injury or another, but has performed well when he's been healthy. The right-fielder has five home runs, 25 RBI and 32 runs scored in 152 at-bats on the season.
Lowell begins June with a bangSunday 6/1, 5:02 PM CT
Mike Lowell hit his seventh home run of the season and the Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 9-4 on Sunday.

Our View: Lowell, who was homerless with no RBI in April, hit six home runs and drove in 22 runs in May. Today's long ball is a solid start to hopefully another productive month.
Manny sets his sights on 600Sunday 6/1, 4:57 PM CT
Manny Ramirez hit his 501st home run just a day after he joined the 500 home run club on Saturday. ManRam now has 11 home runs on the season and has raised his average to .294 with his three hit performance in Sunday's 9-4 victory over the scuffling Orioles.

Our View: Manny went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI on the day, and has to this point outperformed his average draft position. The knock on Manny has been his September lay-downs the last two years. Unless the Tampa Bay Rays can stay in the race there's a chance the Red Sox could have large lead in the AL East in the final month -- offering the veteran hitters in Boston plenty of pine time before the postseason schedule begins in October.
Colon wins third straightSunday 6/1, 4:50 PM CT
Bartolo Colon won his third straight game in as many starts and the Boston Red Sox found their lost offense this weekend at the expense of the Baltimore Orioles in a 9-4 victory Sunday. The former Cy Young winner allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five in six innings of work.

Our View: After Colon's first three performances, there is little chance that Clay Buchholz will return to the Boston rotation unless the staff suffers an untimely injury. In fact Justin Masterson, who is in line for two starts this week with Dice-K on the disabled list, might have surpassed Buchholz on the minor league depth chart.
Jeter goes deep in lossSunday 6/1, 4:43 PM CT
Derek Jeter hit his third home run of the season and was the lone Yankees run producer in a 6-1 loss to the Twins on Sunday afternoon.

Our View: It's gone mostly unnoticed, but since Derek Jeter was hit on the hand on May 20th, he's hit under .200 and done so without any power. The All Star shortstop has looked more comfortable at the plate the last two days which might be a sign his hand is finally getting healthy.
Rasner loses second straightSunday 6/1, 4:38 PM CT
Darrell Rasner suffered his second straight loss as the Minnesota Twins beat the Yankees 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees' right-hander allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out eight over 5.1 innings of work.

Our View: Rasner is a serviceable arm for the Yankees, and will be an important part of the rotation if New York is to challenge for postseason play. But that's as far as it goes. In the fantasy realm he's a back-end rotation option in AL-only formats.
Bass wins second; defeats YanksSunday 6/1, 4:33 PM CT
The Minnesota's bullpen came through with scoreless relief Sunday after starter Nick Blackburn was hit in the nose by a line drive during the Twins' 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees. Brian Bass won his second game of the year after taking the ball in the fifth inning and throwing 1.2 innings of one hit ball.

Our View: Bass was followed by Jesse Crain and finally Joe Nathan in the ninth to win the final game of the three game series against New York. Bass' second win in his 18th appearance won't stir the fantasy nation. He came into the game with a 5.61 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and had allowed 44 hits in 33.2 innings of work.
Cuddyer has big weekendSunday 6/1, 4:28 PM CT
Michael Cuddyer went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the Twins' 5-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday. Cuddyer was 5-for-10 with five RBI's this weekend against Yankee pitching.

Our View: Cuddyer hasn't met preseason expectations in the power categories. His home run on Saturday was only his second of the year in 155 at-bats.
Byrd loses fifth road contestSunday 6/1, 4:24 PM CT
Paul Byrd, who has been roughed up on the road this year, lasted only 4.1 innings in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Kansas City. The right-hander and was charged with six runs and nine hits. He dropped to 0-5 in six road starts.

Our View: Byrd is an inning-eater for the Indians. His low K Rate of 3.64 and 10 hits allowed per nine innings doesn't help fantasy owners outside of head-to-head formats.
Sizemore goes deep againSunday 6/1, 4:18 PM CT
Grady Sizemore went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run but it wasn't enough as the Indians dropped their second straight game, 6-1, to Kansas City. Sizemore homered with one out in the eighth to spoil Brian Bannister's shutout attempt.

Our View: The Indians center fielder is heating up. The long ball was Sizemore's third home run in three days.
Bannister strong in fifth winSunday 6/1, 4:15 PM CT
Brian Bannister pitched into the eighth to help Kansas City beat the Cleveland Indians 6-1 on Sunday. Bannister gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four to earn his first win in four starts.

Our View: Bannister was working on a shutout when Grady Sizemore homered with one out in the eighth. The Royals right-hander is a solid option against teams he's had success. Bannister is 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA in four starts against the Indians.
Ellsbury caught!Sunday 6/1, 4:00 PM CT
Jacoby Ellsbury slowed down on Sunday. He went 3-for-5 with only one stolen base against the Orioles. Ellsbury was also caught attempting to take second base. He has swiped eight bags over the past four games.

Our View: The Orioles had to catch him once, didn't they? Ellsbury continues to lead the majors with 27 steals, and his fantasy stock seems to rise with each passing day.
Scott leaves the yardSunday 6/1, 3:58 PM CT
Luke Scott went 2-for-4 with a double, homer, two runs, and two RBI in Sunday's loss to the Red Sox. The outfielder has socked three long balls over his last eight games.

Our View: Scott hasn't been the breakout player than some fantasy owners hoped for, but the recent power surge is nice. Too bad he isn't hitting much of anything else.
Drew makes Orioles dizzySunday 6/1, 3:55 PM CT
J.D. Drew went 2-for-3 with a homer, walk, one run, and three RBI in Sunday's win over the Orioles.

Our View: We guess J.D. truly is over his battle with vertigo. He's safe to use in fantasy leagues.
Thome hits rare doublesSunday 6/1, 3:53 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles on Sunday. The effort doesn't seem remarkable until you realize that the DH hasn't hit two doubles in a game since August 19, 2006.

Our View: It only seems like Thome hasn't had a two-hit game of any kind since 2006. The veteran is clinging to his job but maybe this rare effort will spur Thome to better days.
Sonnanstine knocked aroundSunday 6/1, 3:49 PM CT
Andy Sonnanstine scattered 10 hits over 5.2 innings of work against the White Sox on Sunday. He held the opposition to three runs and took a no-decision. Sonnanstine has now served up 55 hits over his last 35.2 frames.

Our View: Sonnanstine continues to lack whatever mojo he showed in April, and we have to wonder how long the Rays will stick with him.
Buehrle gives quality effortSunday 6/1, 3:46 PM CT
Mark Buehrle went six innings against the Rays on Sunday and allowed seven hits and three runs. The veteran southpaw walked two and struck out five in the no-decision.

Our View: Given how erratic and generally bad Buehrle has been, the White Sox will take it. He's not worth trusting much in fantasy leagues until he can string together three or four solid efforts.
Gross wins the gameSunday 6/1, 3:44 PM CT
Gabe Gross did a pretty good job of filling in for a resting Carl Crawford on Sunday. The backup outfielder hit a two-run triple to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning, and he socked a walk-off solo homer in the 10th.

Our View: Gross is a career .095 hitter against southpaws, so of course he hit his triple and his homer off lefties on Sunday. Go figure. He has no fantasy value despite this nice outing.
Blister bothering JurrjensSunday 6/1, 3:41 PM CT
Jair Jurrjens has a blister on his right thumb, and he reluctantly admits that it might be the reason for some of his issues. "It's just my location and my velocity is down a little bit," Jurrjens tells MLB.com. "I don't know. Maybe I'm just scared to put pressure on the thumb... If I didn't think I was going to be able to do the job, I'd have said something, but I took the ball, so there are no more excuses." Jurrjens has been treating the blister with cream and seeing some good results.

Our View: Jurrjens is slated to pitch against the Marlins on Thursday. It's not a bad idea to bench him in mixed leagues, provided you have a decent fill-in option.
Upton scratched due to fluSunday 6/1, 3:37 PM CT
Justin Upton was a late scratch on Sunday due to flu-like symptoms, MLB.com reports. Jeff Salazar started in his place.

Our View: Hopefully Justin simply needs a day or two to recover. The Diamondbacks play six times in the week ahead, so fantasy owners in smaller mixed leagues may have a tough call to make.
Moyer wins fourth straightSunday 6/1, 3:30 PM CT
Jamie Moyer picked up his fourth win in as many starts by defeating the Marlins on Sunday. The southpaw allowed five hits and five runs over seven innings. Moyer walked none and struck out three.

Our View: Let's hear it for run support! In Moyer's four wins, the Phillies have scored seven, 20, 12, and 10 runs. They also crossed the plate 11 times when Jamie picked up a win on May 5. Moyer has pitched decently, but fantasy owners shouldn't be fooled by the record.
Jacobs busts outSunday 6/1, 3:25 PM CT
Mike Jacobs typically struggles against southpaws, but he took Jamie Moyer deep twice on Sunday. The Marlins first baseman finished the game with four RBI.

Our View: Jacobs had been struggling a bit over the last 10-12 days, so it's good to see him snap out of his mini-slump in a big day.
Utley is first to 20 homersSunday 6/1, 3:23 PM CT
Chase Utley extended his league-leading home run total when he swatted his 20th long ball on Sunday. He finished the day 1-for-2 with two runs, two walks, and a stolen base. Utley is also the first NL player to reach 50 RBI this year.

Our View: With all apologies to Lance Berkman, Josh Hamilton, and others, we could easily argue that nobody has been more valuable in fantasy leagues this year than Utley.
Dunn socks solo shotSunday 6/1, 3:19 PM CT
Adam Dunn followed up his 10-homer May by swatting another solo shot on Sunday. He is up to 15 homers on the year.

Our View: Fantasy owners were hopefully patient with the slugger. Dunn has had some awful stretches this year, but he has erased those worries with his recent play.
McCann pops one outSunday 6/1, 3:17 PM CT
Brian McCann went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's loss to the Reds.

Our View: It's not a bad way to start the month. McCann was outstanding in May (.367-4-20) and is arguably the top fantasy catcher in the majors.
Bruce celebrates with another homerSunday 6/1, 3:15 PM CT
Jay Bruce celebrated his walk-off homer on Saturday by going 2-for-3 with a home run, walk, two RBI, and two runs on Sunday. The rookie was also caught stealing.

Our View: We hear good things about this kid. The Reds should probably keep him around, huh?
Teixeira goes deep againSunday 6/1, 3:13 PM CT
Mark Teixeira had only one hit on Sunday, but it was a solo homer. The first baseman has gone deep in three of his last four games.

Our View: Tex typically heats up with the weather, and we figure he's just ramping up for a big second half.
Cueto quiets BravesSunday 6/1, 3:12 PM CT
Johnny Cueto held the Braves to four hits and two runs over seven innings on Sunday and improved to 4-5. The rookie opened with five hitless frames but allowed two solo homers in the seventh. It was his longest outing since April 24.

Our View: It was nice to see Cueto work under control (one walk) and pick up his second straight win. The rookie is showing signs of figuring things out after the league picked on him from April 13-May 16.
Sexson out againSunday 6/1, 2:59 PM CT
Richie Sexson is out again on Sunday, and Miguel Cairo will make his fifth straight start at first base. "We've put Cairo out there and to be honest, he's energized us," manager John McLaren explains to the Seattle Times. "He's given us great defense. He's given us a different look, gives us some speed, contact hitter and we've played pretty good. So in the situation we're in, I'm not going to change it. We're starting to play good. Again, it's about Miguel, it's not about Richie." McLaren also suggests that the move is not permanent.

Our View: We'd suggest that pitching (not the lineup) is the reason the Mariners have won three of their last four, but, hey, who are we to doubt Mr. McLaren's logic?
Boyer injured, tooSunday 6/1, 2:54 PM CT
The Braves pitching staff may be jinxed. Blaine Boyer left Sunday's game in the seventh inning due to an undisclosed injury, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Boyer landed awkwardly after a delivery.

Our View: We'll update Boyer's status when more is known. He doesn't have much fantasy value, but he's pitched well out of the bullpen this year.
Blackburn hit in faceSunday 6/1, 2:49 PM CT
Nick Blackburn took a Bobby Abreu line drive off the face on Sunday. He left during the fifth inning and was replaced by Brian Bass. Blackburn was hit on the right side of the face and walked off under his own power, the Minneapolis Star Tribune notes.

Our View: We obviously hope Blackburn is bruised and not broken. We'll update his status as soon as more is known. Nick could be a DL candidate and may offer a chance for Boof Bonser to stick in the rotation or open up a spot for Francisco Liriano.
Prior slated for season-ending surgerySunday 6/1, 2:35 PM CT
Mark Prior will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery this week, MLB.com reports. The anterior capsule of his joint needs to be repaired. Prior signed a one-year deal with the Padres in December.

Our View: We've lost count of how many operations Prior has had on his arm. He is still only 27, but we have to wonder if he'll ever be an effective major league pitcher again. It may be time to follow Kerry Wood's example and try out the bullpen.
Hudson felled by leg crampSunday 6/1, 2:32 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Tim Hudson left his start on Sunday due to a left leg cramp, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View: Hopefully Hudson will bounce back quickly and be able to make his next start. This initial report doesn't sound too serious.
Flores back in the lineupSunday 6/1, 2:29 PM CT
Jesus Flores is back in the lineup on Sunday after missing Saturday's game, the Washington Post notes. The backstop took two foul balls off the mask on Friday and experienced headaches and nausea.

Our View: Hopefully Jesus' bat will pick up where it left off. He is trying to put his stamp on his status as the team's long-term answer behind the dish.
Zimmerman out againSunday 6/1, 2:27 PM CT
Ryan Zimmerman remains out of the lineup on Sunday and will miss his seventh straight game. He is dealing with a sore left shoulder and may undergo an MRI, the Washington Post reports. "It's still a day-to-day kind of thing," Zimmerman explains. "It doesn't feel that bad today. We'll just see how it reacts with a day off (on Monday)"

Our View: Zimmerman is really pushing this "day-to-day" thing. Fantasy owners can't count on him returning Tuesday.
Hudson injures left legSunday 6/1, 2:22 PM CT
Tim Hudson left his start on Sunday in the seventh inning due to a left leg injury.

Our View: We'll update his status when more is known, which should be shortly after the contest.
Holliday could return next SundaySunday 6/1, 2:04 PM CT
Matt Holliday will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Thursday, the Denver Post reports. He will spend three days with the Sky Sox and test his injured left hamstring.

Our View: Fantasy owners can tentatively plan on using Holliday for the week of June 9-15, and we'll continue to update his progress.
Hawpe set for rehab assignmentSunday 6/1, 2:01 PM CT
Brad Hawpe will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday, the Denver Post reports. He is out due to a sore right hamstring.

Our View: The Post doesn't say how long Hawpe will remain out, but we imagine he could return by Friday if all goes well. The Rockies are off on Thursday.
Spilborghs sitsSunday 6/1, 1:57 PM CT
Ryan Spilborghs is out of the lineup on Sunday, one day after injuring his left wrist. X-rays were negative. "It's just a bruise. Thankfully, nothing is broken," Spilborghs informs the Denver Post. "It's sore, but I hope I can get in there today."

Our View: Fantasy owners can expect Spilborghs to start regularly in the week ahead, as the Rockies are low on healthy outfielders.
Kendrick resting on SundaySunday 6/1, 1:48 PM CT
Howie Kendrick is out of the lineup on Sunday. The Angels are giving him a day off after two straight starts, the Orange County Register reports. "We want him to feel his way back into it," manager Mike Scioscia says. "I think his hamstring is fine. Everything seems to be where it needs to be." Sean Rodriguez will start in his place.

Our View: Fantasy owners can still get Howie back into their lineups for the week ahead. Heck, maybe he'll even stick around for three or four in a row.
Mathis moved up to MondaySunday 6/1, 1:28 PM CT
Doug Mathis has been moved up in the rotation to start on Monday against the Indians, the AP reports.

Our View: Mathis is due for a two-start week, with a second outing coming on Saturday against the Rays. He pitched well in his last start, but fantasy owners shouldn't be banking on this 24-year-old right-hander.
Padilla dealing with family matterSunday 6/1, 1:25 PM CT
Vicente Padilla is on his way to Nicaragua to attend a family matter, the Dallas Morning News reports. His scheduled start has been pushed from Monday to Tuesday. If he can't return in time, A.J. Murray would be called up.

Our View: We hope everything is okay with Padilla and his family. We'll continue to provide updates as more details emerge.
Lieberthal retires as a PhillySunday 6/1, 1:20 PM CT
Mike Lieberthal signed a one-day, minor league contract with the Phillies on Sunday. He will officially retire as a member of the Phillies, the team he played for from 1994-2006. "To put everything I had into the Phillies for 13 years, it’s pretty special," Lieberthal tells the AP. "You don’t see too many players who stay with one team in any sport for that long of a period. It’s definitely an honor to come here and finish with the Phillies."

Our View: The two-time All-Star had some quality fantasy campaigns from 1997-2005, including a 31-homer year in 1999. As with many long-time catchers, though, injuries caught up with Lieberthal.
Jimenez returns to MemphisSunday 6/1, 1:15 PM CT
Kelvin Jimenez was sent down to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, the AP reports.

Our View: It was a short, rough ride for Jimenez. He gave up six hits and five runs over 3.1 innings on Saturday, his only appearance this time around.
Worrell called upSunday 6/1, 1:13 PM CT
The Cardinals called up reliever Mark Worrell on Sunday, the AP reports. Worrell, 25, was 1-1 with a 1.88 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 21 appearances at Triple-A Memphis.

Our View: Worrell's numbers suggest he can help the Cards' bullpen, but he's not about to step into any saves and therefore has no fantasy value.
Wilson returns on SundaySunday 6/1, 1:07 PM CT
Jack Wilson is back in the lineup on Sunday, one day after missing a contest due to tightness behind his left knee, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Our View: Wilson has shown some life with the stick, but we'd like to see him be healthy for a bit before endorsing him for anything more than NL-only leagues.
Ruiz feeling fineSunday 6/1, 1:05 PM CT
Carlos Ruiz is not in the lineup for Sunday's tilt with the Marlins, but his left hand is fine. "I'm ready to go," Ruiz tells MLB.com. "I feel very good." He took a pitch off the hand on Saturday. Chris Coste is starting in his place on Sunday.

Our View: It sounds like Ruiz is safe to use for the fantasy week ahead.
Doumit close to returningSunday 6/1, 1:03 PM CT
Ryan Doumit tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he is "days away" from returning to the lineup. He fractured the tip of his left thumb on May 13. Doumit caught Zach Duke's bullpen session on Sunday morning and was pleased. "There was one ball that kind of jammed me a little bit," Doumit explains. "But the next pitch, the pain went away." The Pirates are thinking about sending him on a short rehab assignment.

Our View: Doumit has more problems catching than hitting, so we expect his bat to be fine when he returns. Given that the team hasn't set a date, it's risky for fantasy owners to plug in Doumit for the week ahead.
Hamstring bothers MartinezSunday 6/1, 12:59 PM CT
Victor Martinez is still dealing with a lingering left hamstring issue, and he was not in the starting lineup on Sunday. "Victor needs the day," manager Eric Wedge explains to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "When he hits, his lower half is real active. It all comes into play with him... He still feels it when he runs." Martinez initially injured his hamstring on March 31.

Our View: Martinez hit only .221 in May, and now we know he had a reason beyond the neck and finger issues he had during the month. He is day-to-day and safe to start in fantasy leagues in the upcoming week.
Metcalf gets a look at thirdSunday 6/1, 12:24 PM CT
Travis Metcalf will start at third base against the A's on Sunday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes.

Our View: Ramon Vazquez has been holding down the hot corner, but the Rangers can't count on him to continue hitting .330 (or even above .300). Metcalf could step into a chunk of playing time if he can stay healthy and hit well.
Quenting sitting on SundaySunday 6/1, 12:21 PM CT
Carlos Quentin will get the day off on Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reports. Nick Swisher is starting in left field, and Brian Anderson is in center.

Our View: Quentin isn't injured, so fantasy owners shouldn't panic. The rising star has played in 54 of 55 games, and it's just a good time to take a breather.
Giese to arrive on TuesdaySunday 6/1, 12:19 PM CT
The Yankees plan to call up Dan Giese on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports. Giese, 31, is 4-2 with a 2.02 ERA over 12 appearances (nine starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Our View: Giese will help fill a long relief role while Joba Chamberlain eases into the starting rotation. Fantasy owners can pass on Giese, even though he has generally been excellent at Triple-A.
Ensberg designated for assignmentSunday 6/1, 12:16 PM CT
The Yankees designated Morgan Ensberg for assignment on Sunday, the New York Daily News reports.

Our View: The 32-year-old corner infielder hasn't hit consistently well for two or three years, but some club might claim him off waivers. We don't envision Morgan gaining much fantasy value, though.
Patterson coming upSunday 6/1, 12:13 PM CT
The Yankees will call up reliever Scott Patterson on Sunday, the New York Daily News reports. The 28-year-old right-hander is 1-0 with a 3.04 ERA over 22 appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Our View: The Yankees need an extra arm (or two) for the bullpen, especially since Joba Chamberlain will make a limited start on Tuesday. Patterson has not fantasy value.
Punto scratched; Harris to startSunday 6/1, 12:08 PM CT
Nick Punto was scratched from the starting lineup on Sunday. He is dealing with general soreness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Punto was slated to start at shortstop, but Brendan Harris will take his place.

Our View: We imagine the recent hamstring injury plus the birth of his child on Friday have Punto's head spinning and body hurting. Fantasy owners shouldn't have much interest in the light-hitting infielder.
Ortiz out on SundaySunday 6/1, 11:22 AM CT
David Ortiz is not in Sunday's lineup against the Orioles. He injured his left wrist on Saturday night and is day-to-day. The Boston Globe believes Ortiz will undergo an MRI at some point. X-rays taken on Saturday were negative.

Our View: We hope Big Papi will talk to reporters after the game and give an update. Fantasy owners should tentatively plan on using Ortiz in the week ahead, and we'll provide updates as more news comes out.
Drew back in the lineupSunday 6/1, 11:17 AM CT
J.D. Drew will start in right field on Sunday, the Boston Globe confirms. The veteran outfielder has been dealing with vertigo.

Our View: Our guess is that Orioles starter Brian Burres will throw Drew a bunch of curveballs on Sunday. Anyway, fantasy owners can use J.D. if they wish.
Majewski called upSunday 6/1, 11:14 AM CT
The Reds called up reliever Gary Majewski on Sunday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Majewski was 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA over 22 appearances at Triple-A Louisville.

Our View: Majewski was a solid setup man back in 2005, but arm issues led to a quick demise. His minor league numbers suggest that fantasy owners should steer clear.
Fogg drifts to DLSunday 6/1, 11:12 AM CT
The Reds placed Josh Fogg on the 15-day DL on Sunday due to a sore back, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Our View: Fantasy owners won't miss the 9.85 ERA.
Crawford off on SundaySunday 6/1, 11:08 AM CT
Carl Crawford is getting a day off on Sunday, the St. Petersburg Times reports. Gabe Gross will start in right field.

Our View: The Rays don't play on Monday, which makes this a good time for Crawford to get a two-day breather. He's not injured, so there's nothing to be worried about here.
Albers, Liz could start TuesdaySunday 6/1, 11:06 AM CT
Matt Albers could start on Tuesday against the Twins, the Baltimore Sun reports. Triple-A hurler Radhames Liz is also a candidate to replace Steve Trachsel.

Our View: The Orioles could make a more permanent move if Albers or Liz impresses. Trachsel has not pitched well, and these two young right-handers are both in the long-term plans. AL-only fantasy owners may be interested.
