Peavy lasts only four inningsWednesday 6/18, 11:59 PM CT
Jake Peavy allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, walked two and struck out four in a losing effort against the Yankees on Wednesday night. The conditions were wet and the fielders were having problems with batted balls. The Padres made two errors in the game, one effected the pitch count and the pace of their ace.

Our View: Peavy is still on a pitch count and could only last four innings after throwing 93 pitches.
Percival reaches milestoneWednesday 6/18, 11:47 PM CT
Reliever Troy Percival recorded another save in support of the Rays' 5-4 win over the Cubs tonight, his 17th close of the season also representing his 341st career save.

Our View: That ties Percival with Hall of Fame closer Rollie Fingers for ninth on the all-time saves list.
A-Rod goes deep in fourth straightWednesday 6/18, 11:47 PM CT
Alex Rodriguez homered for the fourth straight game and the New York Yankees beat the San Diego Padres 8-5 Wednesday night. When A-Rod homers they seem to mean a little more these days. Not only is the Yankee third baseman on a streak, the Yanks won their sixth straight game improving to 39-33.

Our View: Even though Rodriguez missed 21 games, he still has 14 home runs, 40 RBI, 38 runs and has stolen seven bases. The Yankees are 19-9 since Rodriguez came off the disabled list May 20.
Haren puts his old mates to the fireWednesday 6/18, 11:43 PM CT
Arizona RHP Dan Haren got plenty of offensive support this evening in the Diamondbacks' 11-1 win over Oakland, but the motivation to put his old employer to the gutter ruled the night and gave Haren the drive for a top performance. Haren pitched seven innings to allow just one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Our View: Haren moves to 7-4 with an ERA of 3.26, now sitting at 2-0 over four starts this month. In that span through June, he has allowed just six combined earned runs with five walks versus 24 strikeouts.
Bennett earns first victoryWednesday 6/18, 11:38 PM CT
Jeff Bennett pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Atlanta and then handed the ball to new closer Mike Gonzalez in the ninth and registered his first victory of the season.

The Diamondbacks pushed 15 hits for 11 runs tonight in beating up on the Oakland A's, a surge enhanced by the efforts of outfielder Chris Young . Young went 2-for-4 on the night with his 18th double and his 13th homer of the season, totaling three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View: Young's struggles from May have gotten worse in June, hitting just .200 with no homers and four RBIs. His hot start had all but faded, but tonight may indicate another rise on the horizon.

Our View: Drew has found difficult times at the plate this month, hitting just .241 through June with two homers and four RBIs before tonight. This may jump start his swing and get him back to the numbers we know he can produce.

Eric Hurley and Jo-Jo Reyes went head to head for five innings on Wednesday night in Arlington. The Texas right hander was making his second big-league start. He allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five.

Mike Gonzalez, who was removed from the disabled list before the game, recorded his first save in over 13 months. Gonzalez underwent ligament replacement surgery in his left elbow last May.

Blanton keeps sinkingWednesday 6/18, 11:24 PM CT
Oakland RHP Joe Blanton continues to suffer through the dredges of a horrific season, suffering his 10th loss this evening as the A's were trounced 11-1 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Blanton lasted just three innings to give up eight runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout.

Our View: This gives Blanton four consecutive losses with 20 combined earned runs surrendered through that span.
Reyes continues to impressWednesday 6/18, 11:23 PM CT
Jo-Jo Reyes gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking four. The left-hander wasn't involved in the decision after leaving the game tied at 2.

Our View: Reyes continues to impress. His performance was even more impressive due to the lineup and the venue he pitched against and in. The southpaw held the highest scoring offense in the majors and did it in hitter-friendly Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. His BB rate is still unattractive but the young lefty is learning on the job and faced the best tonight.

Reed Johnson sat out Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with back stiffness after a first-base collision on Tuesday night with first baseman Willy Aybar.

Kevin Slowey won his second straight start and the Minnesota Twins beat the Washington Nationals 11-2 Wednesday night. Slowey allowed one run on seven hits, walked two and struck out four.

Our View: Slowey sure won't over power hitters, but as long as he can keep the ball in the park, he'll find success, especially against light-hitting teams like the Nationals.
Bannister gets win #6Wednesday 6/18, 10:08 PM CT
The Royals pulled a much-needed 3-2 win over the Cardinals tonight led by the arm of RHP Brian Bannister . Bannister pitched seven innings to allow two runs (both earned) on nine hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Brian Moehler was good on Wednesday night in Baltimore. After allowing seven runs on seven hits in his last outing against the Brewers, the right-handed journeyman working 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out four in a no-decision.

Our View: Moehler was not expected to be in the starting rotation when the Astros broke spring training, and the veteran is much better serving in long relief. The longer Moehler is in the game the more dramatically his batting average against climbs.
Bradford earns third winWednesday 6/18, 9:29 PM CT
Chad Bradford pitched two scoreless innings for the Orioles on Wednesday night as was in the right place in the 10th inning to receive his third win of the season.

Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with this 12th homer of the season, totaling one RBI and one runs scored on the night.

Cox frustrated with SorianoWednesday 6/18, 8:43 PM CT
MLB.com reports that Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox said Tuesday that he thought Rafael Soriano will be activated from the disabled list on Saturday, he might have been doing some wishful thinking. As has been the case with Soriano for most of the past month, thoughts about his potential return to the Braves bullpen can change on a daily basis.

Our View: The report noted two things: 1) Soriano did venture into the outfield to play catch during batting practice at Rangers Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon 2) Cox isn't sure exactly when this test might occur and was visably frustrated when asked about Soriano for seemingly the thousandth time this season.
Bradley held out on Wednesday nightWednesday 6/18, 8:37 PM CT
AL batting leader Milton Bradley was out of Texas' lineup for Wednesday night's game against Atlanta because of a strained left quadriceps. Bradley left Tuesday night's 7-5 victory over the Braves after hurting himself on a two-run single in the third inning. He hit the ball into the gap in right-center field, and reached down for his leg even before reaching first base.

Our View: Bradley wanted to remain in the game and tried to test his leg by running down the right-field line. Washington decided to pull him. "He came in feeling OK, but he felt another day would help so we'll give him another day," Washington said. "It's a little strain. He came in and got it worked on. He'll be ready for the day game tomorrow." Bradley is hitting .330 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. He is leading the league in slugging percentage and on-base average.

We will update his condition as news comes forth.
Isringhausen still given cautious opportunitiesWednesday 6/18, 8:20 PM CT
The Cardinals report reliever Jason Isringhausen returned to active duty on Tuesday night, but the team still intends to ease him back into the fold and will give him more work in the bullpen to insure he is as healthy as can, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The right-hander pitched around an error in the ninth inning on Tuesday, and he hit a batter. But he did not allow any runs, hits or walks in his first game back. He pitched in a close game, with St. Louis trailing by one run. However, manager Tony LaRussa tells reporters he is going to be choosing his spots carefully when giving Isringhausen the call, at least for now.
Carmona's return delayedWednesday 6/18, 8:11 PM CT
Cleveland RHP Fausto Carmona will have his return to the mound delayed for at least three more days due to today's MRI results that reveal continued inflammation in his left hip, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Carmona strained the hip in a start against Texas on May 23 at Progressive Field. He went on the disabled list the next day. Carmona threw a 50-pitch, three-inning simulated game Monday at Class A Mahoning Valley. He returned to Progressive Field on Tuesday and complained of soreness in the hip. The hip was still sore today. He had been scheduled to make rehab starts on June 20 and June 25. If those went well, he would have been ready to rejoin the rotation. Now the Indians will play it as it comes and have yet to put a revised timetable for events to Carmona.
Clement starts at catcher; hitting sixthWednesday 6/18, 8:10 PM CT
Manager John McLaren said Tuesday that Jeff Clement "is going to catch a lot" and "we want to see him playing." On Wednesday night the rookie is in the lineup as the starting catcher and hitting sixth in the batting order.

Guerrero serving as DHWednesday 6/18, 8:05 PM CT
Vladimir Guerrero is serving as the Angels designated hitter tonight. Reggie Willits is starting in left field, Torii Hunter is in center and Gary Matthews Jr. is in right field.

Our View: Guerrero is the usual right fielder with Matthews serving as the designated hitter. It never hurts to give Vlad a day off from the field, but he'll tell you he's not as good a hitter when serving as the DH.
Willits starts, Anderson on the benchWednesday 6/18, 8:01 PM CT
Reggie Willits is hitting second and starting in left field for regular Garrett Anderson.

Our View: Anderson is getting the night off with left-handed Oliver Perez starting for the Mets. He should be available to pinch hit if needed.
Reyes back in starting lineupWednesday 6/18, 7:59 PM CT
Jose Reyes said after Tuesday's game that he expected to play tonight against the Angels, and true to his expectations, the Mets starting shortstop is in the starting lineup and hitting in his usual leadoff spot.

Our View: Reyes was upset after being taken out of the Tuesday's game in the first inning after tweaking a hamstring, and while he is starting, don't expect to see the speedster stealing second and third without feeling some hambone pain.
Montero starting against BlantonWednesday 6/18, 7:55 PM CT
Miguel Montero is in the starting lineup on Wednesday night against the A's Joe Blanton. Montero, Randy Johnson's personal catcher, has been picking up some additional at-bats versus right-handed pitching.

Our View: The backup catcher is a modest upgrade offensively over Chris Snyder against right-handed pitchers.
Wellemeyer believes it will be one miss and only oneWednesday 6/18, 7:50 PM CT
St. Louis RHP Todd Wellemeyer is going to miss his scheduled start on Thursday due to inflammation in his right elbow, but the team believes it will be the only start he misses, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Wellemeyer said there was not a significant improvement in his elbow from his last start and now. Erring on the side of caution, he decided it would not be best for him to pitch through the injury. However, Wellemeyer does not think he will miss his next start, though he was not about to submit any certainties for the immediate future.
Aybar activated from DLWednesday 6/18, 7:45 PM CT
The Angels have activated infielder Erick Aybar from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Aybar landed on the DL when he dislocated his right pinky finger diving for a ball in the first inning of Anaheim's 3-1 victory over Toronto on May 20. Before the injury, Aybar hit .270 with 16 RBI and 21 runs scored in 43 games. To make room for Aybar, the Angels optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake. Rodriguez hit just .185 in 22 games with the big club this season.
Mock scheduled for Saturday startWednesday 6/18, 7:44 PM CT
Garrett Mock, who is currently in Triple-A Columbus, will pitch against the Rangers on Saturday night at Nationals Park. The team has not announced a corresponding move.

Our View: Mock filled in as the emergency starter on Sunday allowing four runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out none in 4.1 innings of work in a loss to the Giants, 6-3, at Nationals Park. If he thought the Giants were tough, wait until he peeks at the Rangers first eight hitters.
Dodgers waiting on Kuroda's MRI resultsWednesday 6/18, 7:42 PM CT
The Dodgers believe they will have the much-anticipated update on the status of RHP Hiroki Kuroda late today, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Kuroda was sent home prior to Tuesday's series opener with the Reds after informing manager Joe Torre that he was experiencing soreness in his right shoulder. He underwent an MRI exam on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. He is scheduled to pitch again on Saturday against Cleveland, but the results of the MRI will have an obvious effect on those plans. We will update as news becomes available.
Branyon goes deep for the ninth timeWednesday 6/18, 7:38 PM CT
Russell Branyan, who was hitting .350 with 12 home runs in Triple-A before being called up last month, hit his ninth home run of the season in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Our View: It was his ninth long ball in 57 at-bats. This combined with his Triple-A numbers -- is impressive to say the least.
Benoit remains out versus AtlantaWednesday 6/18, 7:28 PM CT
The Rangers report RHP Joaquin Benoit will be be available for use in their current series against the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Benoit, the Rangers 2007 Pitcher of the Year, hasn't appeared in a game since June 7 against the Rays. He'll throw a light session in the bullpen on Thursday in the hopes of being ready on Friday.
Rios on the bench; Wilkerson startsWednesday 6/18, 7:28 PM CT
Blue Jays outfielder Alex Rios is not in Wednesday's starting lineup. The Jays have five left-handed hitters in the batting order against Milwaukee starter Ben Sheets.

Our View: While some will begin to question what can be done about the .268 hitting Rios, it's only June and the Jays young outfielder has plenty of time to improve his numbers as the season progresses.
Flores sticks as Nats catcherWednesday 6/18, 7:25 PM CT
With Paul LoDuca back from the disabled list some believed that he would be back in the lineup auditioning for prospective trade partners. But it appears that Jesus Flores will continue to be the starting catcher for the Nationals. Flores is in the starting lineup tonight hitting sixth in the batting order.

Our View: Flores' statline of .311-4-25 with 14 doubles in 106 at-bats is about as good as one should expect from a rookie catcher.
Reyes' start in questionWednesday 6/18, 7:17 PM CT
The Cardinals' team website is reporting that Anthony Reyes' scheduled start on Thursday afternoon is in question due to some discomfort and inflammation in his right elbow. Reyes downplayed the condition on Wednesday and said he expects to start, but manager Tony La Russa allowed for more uncertainty.

Our View: Reyes said he has been dealing with the issue since his second start at Triple-A Memphis, on May 15. He competed for the Cardinals' starting rotation in Spring Training, but instead made the club as a reliever. After his workload and effectiveness both dwindled, Reyes was sent to Memphis to start.
Rivas starting for SanchezWednesday 6/18, 7:12 PM CT
Luis Rivas is hitting leadoff tonight when the Pirates try and bounce back from a beat down at the hands of the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox returned to their hitting ways as soon as they arrived back in Comerica Park.

Our View: Rivas is starting at second base and Freddy Sanchez has the day off.
Bay feeling betterWednesday 6/18, 7:09 PM CT
Jason Bay is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's game with flu-like symptoms.

Our View: Bay is hitting in the cleanup spot while Nate McClouth is hitting third rather than leadoff.
Braves welcome Gonzalez backWednesday 6/18, 6:57 PM CT
As anticipated, the Atlanta Braves have activated LHP Mike Gonzalez from the disabled list, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View: It has been 13 months since Gonzalez underwent Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery. The reliever joined his Atlanta teammates on Tuesday and has been activated for tonight's game against the Rangers at Rangers Ballpark at Arlington.
Headley starting at third baseWednesday 6/18, 6:56 PM CT
After going 2-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in his debut, Chase Headley was in the starting lineup for the second straight day. The Padres versatile rookie is starting at third base and hitting sixth in the batting order.

Our View: Headley at third base works well with Kevin Kouzmanoff nursing a bad back.
Betemit starts; Matsui given day offWednesday 6/18, 6:52 PM CT
San Diego at New York is in a rain delay, but when the lineup cards were turned in, the Yankees Wilson Betemit was penciled in as the starting first baseman and hitting eighth in the batting order.

Our View: Jason Giambi is the designated hitter and Hideki Matsui has been given a day off.
Crawford back for RaysWednesday 6/18, 6:51 PM CT
Rays outfielder Carl Crawford is back on the field tonight and working for the Tampa Bay effort, having completed his recent four-game suspension.

Our View: Crawford earned the suspension for his part in the bench-clearing brawl with Boston. He has also been nursing minor hamstring and knee injuries, but there is no sign that either is a major concern.
Hardy back in the lineupWednesday 6/18, 6:45 PM CT
Having missed time with an aching left should, Milwaukee shortstop J.J. Hardy is back in action tonight and playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: Hardy took part in pregame warm-ups yesterdya and felt good, but the wanted to play cautious. Tonight, he is on the prowl.
Doumit out for PiratesWednesday 6/18, 6:38 PM CT
The Pirates will be without catcher Ryan Doumit this evening, suffering from a concussion, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Doumit took three foul balls off his mask Tuesday night. He was replaced in the bottom of the seventh by Raul Chavez. The team wants to rest him in full, thus he won't be available for pinch-hitting duties either, and could be held out again tomorrow. We will update as news becomes available.
Fukudome in leadoff spotWednesday 6/18, 6:33 PM CT
In a surprising chain of events, Chicago manager Lou Piniella has moved outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to the leadoff spot in the batting order, according to MLB.com.

Our View: With Alfonso Soriano out with the broken hand, the team needs to replace a productive bat to keep the mood right leading off the batting efforts. Fukudome has shown such potential this season, though they are obviously losing a bit of speed in the move.
Reds option Bailey to minorsWednesday 6/18, 6:30 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, the Cincinnati Reds have sent RHP Homer Bailey back to the minors, optioning the struggling hurler to Triple-A Louisville, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: The 22-year-old Bailey knew he was likely to be optioned after he gave up five runs in only 2 1/3 innings of a 9-0 loss to Boston on Sunday. In three starts this season, Bailey went 0-3 with an 8.76 ERA. To fill his roster spot, the Reds have activated outfielder Norris Hopper who has been sidelined since April 23rd with an irritated nerve in his right elbow.
Hopper promoted from Triple-AWednesday 6/18, 5:54 PM CT
The Reds activated Norris Hopper from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.

Our View: Hopper, a preseason sleeper to start in center field for the Reds, is now up to offer depth for the injured and the ill. Jay Bruce's promotion ended any hope that Hopper would see regular playing time this year.
Ponson joins YanksWednesday 6/18, 5:51 PM CT
Fox Sports reports that the New York Yankees have signed free-agent right-hander Sidney Ponson to a minor-league contract.

Our View: Ponson was recently released by the Texas Rangers, who cited his off and on-field conduct as a decision to designate him for assignment. No word yet on where Ponson fits, and when he might join the rotation.
Riske likely one-and-doneWednesday 6/18, 5:11 PM CT
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that there's a good chance reliever David Riske will take part in only one rehabilitation session with Triple-A Nashville. Riske, on the disabled list while recovering from an elbow injury, struck out all three batters he faced Tuesday night. "We'll re-evaluate it (today)," Yost said. "There's some talk (about pitching just once). We'll see how he feels." After three strikeouts, Riske probably was feeling pretty good.

Our View: The original plan was for Riske to pitch again Thursday for the Sounds but manager Ned Yost said he might be brought back and activated after one outing.
Bradley's numbers eye-poppingWednesday 6/18, 5:04 PM CT
When he's healthy, and once again he is not, Milton Bradley continues to grow as a major league hitter. He still has temper tantrums that one see's from the most spoiled T-Ball participants; or from Dads of future major leaguers that believe their sons didn't get a fair shake, but his .330-15-48 statline is eye-popping even if he is receiving support from the highest scoring offense in the league.

Our View: When he's not offended by TV announcers and first base umpires Bradley is one of the best players in the league. The only road block holding Bradley back from being a full speed fantasy asset is his history with injury.
Blackburn could have started Wednesday 6/18, 5:00 PM CT
Nick Blackburn said his right elbow feels fine, even though his recent soreness prompted the Twins to move his start from Tuesday to Saturday, this according to the Star Tribune. "I could have made that start [Tuesday]," Blackburn said. "I feel fine, but this made sense."

Our View: The decision enabled the Twins to keep their other four starters on regular rest after Monday's off day. Blackburn, who ranks second behind Livan Hernandez for the team lead in innings pitched with 86, will throw a full bullpen session today and make his start Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Guillen MVP for KCWednesday 6/18, 4:57 PM CT
The Kansas City Star reports that GM Bill Bavasi, fired Monday, cited the decision last winter not to retain outfielder Jose Guillen as the biggest factor this season in the Mariners’ poor play. “It’s really ironic,” Bavasi said in a news conference after his dismissal, “that the person we’re missing the most is José Guillen.

Our View: The Mariners opted not to exercise a $9 million option to retain Guillen for this season. Kansas City got arguably their most valuable player.
Furcal not expected until post-All StarWednesday 6/18, 4:53 PM CT
The LA Times reports that Rafael Furcal has been limited to playing catch. Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said he didn't expect his shortstop back until after the All-Star break.

Our View: Furcal, suffering from a bulging disk in his back, was tied for the team lead in runs scored with Russell Martin when the Dodgers opened their three-game series in Cincinnati even though he hadn't played in more than six weeks. Think the leadoff hitter wasn't valuable to the offense?
Kennedy close to rehab assignmentWednesday 6/18, 4:50 PM CT
Ian Kennedy (strained lat) will not be back in time to pitch one end of the June 27 doubleheader against the Mets, this according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The right-hander threw a bullpen session Sunday and will pitch batting practice Friday. He could be in a rehab game within a week.
Wilson on pace for 40 savesWednesday 6/18, 4:47 PM CT
Brian Wilson entered Wednesday's game with 19 saves. The last Giant to reach 20 by the All-Star break was Matt Herges in 2004.

Our View: Wilson's fastball registered 102 mph on the AT&T Park radar gun in Monday's mop up appearance against the Tigers.
Meek promoted to Triple-AWednesday 6/18, 4:38 PM CT
Evan Meek, who opened the season with the Pirates as a Rule 5 draft pick, was promoted from Class AA Altoona to Class AAA Indianapolis, this according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: In nine appearances with the Curve, Meek had a 2.81 ERA, 17 strikeouts and three walks.
Kiko expected to be designatedWednesday 6/18, 4:30 PM CT
A's right-hander Kiko Calero is expected to be designated for assignment as early as Wednesday to make room for reliever Santiago Casilla. If Calero clears waivers, he has enough service time to decline a minor-league assignment, but he's told the A's he would accept an assignment.

Our View: It would come as a surprise if Calero clears the wire. We can think of one New York team that could really use the veteran's services. Calero rehabilitated a torn rotator cuff rather than have surgery this offseason. He's only worked 2.2 innings this year, giving up a hit, two walks and two earned runs, while striking out an impressive four batters.
Casilla close to returnWednesday 6/18, 4:24 PM CT
Santiago Casilla made his final rehab appearance on Monday with Oakland's top affiliate and then joined the A's in Arizona on Tuesday, but he won't be activated until Thursday unless there is a pressing need in the bullpen, something that is unlikely after yet another stellar performance by Justin Duchscherer on Tuesday that saw him go eight strong innings against the Diamondbacks.

Our View: Casilla worked 1 2/3 innings at Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, making him unavailable for at least a day or two. Currently Casilla has no fantasy value in traditional formats.
Cantu "comeback player" candidateWednesday 6/18, 4:20 PM CT
Jorge Cantu, who became a fantasy sensation after a stellar 2005 season with Tampa Bay, is no longer considered a one-year wonder. Less than two seasons after his big '05 campaign the third baseman is hitting .285-14-41 in 69 games.

Our View: One can blame injuries on a 2006 season that saw him miss 55 games, but it doesn't explain his struggles in 2007, a year he spent several months riding minor league buses. Cantu won't be mistaken for a gold glover, in fact he is arguably the worst defensive third basemen in the league, but his bat is all most fantasy owners care about, and his bat is smoking.
Zito pulled after two inningsWednesday 6/18, 4:12 PM CT
Barry Zito is still looking for his first win of the season at AT&T Park, where he was 0-6 with a 6.50 ERA in seven starts coming into today's game against the Tigers. Zito left after pitching just two innings against the Tigers, allowing five runs on five hits, walking four and striking out two.

Our View: The left-hander has only one win in his last 16 starts at San Francisco. At the time of this post the Giants were down 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning making it probable that Zito would lose his 11th game of the season, his seventh at home.
Crisp to be checked out ThursdayWednesday 6/18, 4:03 PM CT
Coco Crisp will have his sore left hand examined in Boston on Thursday, when the Red Sox are off. Manager Terry Francona tells the Boston Globe that the outfielder has a strain on the top, middle portion of his hand. Crisp may be able to play on Friday.

Our View: We should have an update on Crisp within the next day or two, but, again, this doesn't sound serious.
Davis can't be stoppedWednesday 6/18, 3:39 PM CT
Chris Davis continues to be the hottest hitter outside the majors. The Rangers prospect hit a pair of two-run homers fro Triple-A Oklahoma on Wednesday. Over the past 10 games, Davis is 17-for-38 with seven homers, 14 RBI, and 14 runs.

Our View: We went into the season thinking Davis might get a call in September, but the 22-year-old is hitting .341-22-69-65 over 71 games. If Hank Blalock doesn't work out at first base or the Rangers are looking for a change at DH, Davis is their guy.
Albaladejo moved to 60-day DLWednesday 6/18, 3:34 PM CT
The Yankees shifted Jonathan Albaladejo from the 15-day to the 60-day DL on Wednesday. He is out for the season due to a stress fracture in his right elbow.

Our View: That's a tough break for a 25-year-old reliever with a promising arm.
Masterson improves to 4-1Wednesday 6/18, 3:31 PM CT
Justin Masterson held the Phillies to two runs over five full innings on Wednesday and improved to 4-1. The rookie allowed four hits, walked two, struck out one, and plunked a batter.

Our View: It wasn't a masterful performance, but Masterson continues to miss bats. He has allowed only 22 hits over 36.0 innings, which is amazing. Given all their injuries, the rookie could stick in the rotation for a while.
Kendrick roughed up by Red SoxWednesday 6/18, 3:28 PM CT
Kyle Kendrick had arguably his worst outing of the year on Wednesday. He served up six hits and six runs (two homers) over three innings against the Red Sox. Kendrick dropped to 6-3, and his ERA jumped from 4.54 to 5.06.

Our View: Kendrick had been pitching pretty well coming into this contest, but the mighty Red Sox jumped all over his stuff. We'll chalk it up to a middle-of-the-road hurler simply having a bad day.
Drew stays red hotWednesday 6/18, 3:24 PM CT
J.D. Drew can't be stopped. The outfielder went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two runs, and four RBI on Wednesday afternoon. Drew is hitting .441 with nine homers and 21 RBI in 17 games this month.

Our View: Drew can be fun to watch when he's not nicked up. This is the best stretch we've seen out of him in a while. Fantasy owners should enjoy the ride and keep knocking on wood.
Inge dealing with sore obliqueWednesday 6/18, 3:21 PM CT
Ivan Rodriguez is behind the plate on Wednesday because Brandon Inge is dealing with a strained left oblique, MLB.com notes. Inge suffered the injury two weeks ago, and it is affecting his hitting. "I'm going to give Inge a day and the day off, see if that helps him," manager Jim Leyland explains. "Because he's not right, and I'm worried about that."

Our View: Leyland only recently installed the catcher rotation between Inge and Pudge, and it looks like that plan may not be in place for near future.
Granderson hitting eighthWednesday 6/18, 2:39 PM CT
Curtis Granderson will hit in the eighth spot again on Wednesday. It's his second straight day near the bottom of the order, and it's also the second straight day that the Tigers are facing a left-handed pitcher. The outfielder is a career .204 hitter against southpaws.

Our View: Jim Leyland previously noted that he's committed to using Granderson against lefties, and it looks like this revised lineup with Curtis near the bottom is the solution. Hey, at least he's playing.
Sexson to be released?Wednesday 6/18, 2:25 PM CT
The Mariners brass have been meeting following the firing of general manager Bill Bavasi, and the team could release first baseman Richie Sexson in the near future, according to MLB.com.

Our View: The Mariners own the worst record in baseball, and signs point to them beginning to look to the future. Sexson has been a disaster the last two years, and this news shouldn't be too shocking. They could go a lot of directions at first base, including moving Raul Ibanez or calling up a prospect.
Crisp injures handWednesday 6/18, 1:29 PM CT
Coco Crisp left Wednesday's game in the third inning due to left hand discomfort. He is day-to-day, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: The Red Sox may have more to say after the game, but it doesn't sound too serious.
Liriano could return in JulyWednesday 6/18, 1:14 PM CT
Francisco Liriano isn't on the verge of returning to the Twins, but the club could call him back up in July. "We're not going to force the issue. We'll let him get enough starts down there to where (the front office) feels comfortable," manager Rob Gardenhire tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "Whether it's at the All-Star break or right before that, I don't know." Liriano is 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA and .214 BAA this month.

Our View: The Twins want to make fully certain that Liriano is ready this time, as they rushed him earlier this year. The southpaw doesn't figure to return to his 2006 form this year, but he could still help fantasy teams.
Moss replaces CrispWednesday 6/18, 1:08 PM CT
Brandon Moss entered Wednesday's game in the third inning as a pinch-hitter for Coco Crisp. The backup outfielder immediately delivered a two-run single. There is no word on why Crisp was taken out.

Our View: We're digging for updates, but if Crisp is hurt, Moss could stand to step into a lot of at-bats.
Denker getting a startWednesday 6/18, 12:48 PM CT
Travis Denker will start on Wednesday in place of Ray Durham, who is presumably just getting a day off, the San Jose Mercury News notes.

Our View: It's a day game after a night contest, so it's not too surprising to see Durham on the bench.
Loewen moves up to Double-AWednesday 6/18, 12:19 PM CT
Adam Loewen will move up to Double-A and work for the Bowie club on Wednesday night, the Baltimore Sun reports. The southpaw allowed one hit and no runs, struck out five, and walked none over three relief appearances for High-A Frederick. He is on the DL due to a sore left elbow.

Our View: The Orioles may not wait long to move Loewen up to the majors, but he is slated to stick in relief for the rest of this season.
Manny out on WednesdayWednesday 6/18, 10:56 AM CT
Manny Ramirez experienced a twinge in his right hamstring on Tuesday night and is not in the lineup on Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports.

Our View: Ramirez and the Red Sox are hurt by the no-DH rule as they visit the Phillies. His hamstring issue isn't major, but the Red Sox can't afford to push it.
Clement pushed ahead of JohjimaWednesday 6/18, 10:52 AM CT
Manager John McLaren has basically handed the starting catcher job over to Jeff Clement. When asked if Clement will start three out of every five games, McLaren tells the Seattle Times, "That, or more."

Our View: Clement struggled in his earlier call-up this year, but the Mariners are beginning to look to the future and Jeff is a high-end prospect. Johjima is hitting only .224, and this news sinks his lagging value. Clement has batted .337 with a 1.137 during his Triple-A time (47 games) and is worth a look.
Butler pushing to returnWednesday 6/18, 10:35 AM CT
Billy Butler is batting .394 with a 1.089 OPS since being demoted to Triple-A Omaha in late May, and he may return to Kansas City soon. "He’s continuing to swing the bat well," manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. "That’s good for us. At some point, we’ll look to get him back up here. When that’s going to happen, I can’t tell you. Reports are good."

Our View: The Royals have been trying a different alignment with Joey Gathright in center and Mark Teahen at first, but neither guy is hitting particularly well this month. Butler is good enough with the stick to help AL-only teams, and hopefully the demotion turns out to be a wake-up call.
Benoit throws off moundWednesday 6/18, 10:30 AM CT
Joaquin Benoit threw 35 pitches in a bullpen session on Tuesday, which was his first time on the mound in a week, the Dallas Morning News reports. He is dealing with right shoulder soreness.

Our View: We're not sure why the Rangers haven't placed Benoit on the DL at this point, as he hasn't appeared in a game since June 7. Anyway, he's not much of a fantasy asset.
Braves may be interested in WinnWednesday 6/18, 10:26 AM CT
The Braves could be interested in acquiring Randy Winn before the July 31 trade deadline, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Our View: The list of suitors won't end with the Braves. Winn will likely be a hot commodity as July 31 approaches, and there's a chance he'll end up in a good situation to help fantasy teams. His stock could rise.
Kouzmanoff injures backWednesday 6/18, 10:22 AM CT
Kevin Kouzmanoff was out of the lineup on Tuesday because he tweaked his back while taking grounders in pre-game warm-ups. "It could be day-to-day for Kouz," manager Bud Black tells the San Diego Union-Tribune. "It could be longer."

Our View: Fantasy owners should plan on Kouz being out on Wednesday and probably Thursday, at the least. We'll prov
