NEWSBREAKERS NASCAR
NASCAR apologizes for tireTuesday 7/29, 6:22 PM CT
On Tuesday, NASCAR apologized for the tire that was brought to Indy for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard—a race won by Jimmie Johnson.

Our View: "I can't say enough how sorry we are and it's our responsibility being NASCAR that we don't go through this situation again," said Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition. We guess that's something.
R Gordon looking to race this weekTuesday 7/29, 3:41 PM CT
Whatever happens this week, Robby Gordon should finish better than last year. After an altercation in the Nationwide race at Montreal, Gordon was parked by NASCAR for this event.

Our View: Don't expect too much, however, because Gordon has an average finish of only 34th in his last six starts at Pocono.
Earnhardt's improving at PoconoTuesday 7/29, 11:31 AM CT
Dale Earnhardt, Jr's record at Pocono is not great, but it is rapidly improving. After logging an average finish of 18.3 in his first 15 starts, he has come back to finish in the top five in his last two attempts.

Our View: Hendrick Motorsports horsepower certainly doesn't hurt matters any and he can be expected to run equally strong this week.
N'Wide: the Boys will race at MontrealTuesday 7/29, 10:06 AM CT
Longtime NASCAR driver Trevor Boys and his son Wheeler will compete in this week's NAPA Auto Parts 200 by Dodge in Johnny Davis' Chevrolets.

Our View: In 102 NASCAR Cup starts Trevor has two top-10s, but last year in this race at Montreal, he finished 35th in Randy MacDonald's ride.
As expected, Stewart fined by USACTuesday 7/29, 9:06 AM CT
As expected, USAC—a sanctioning body for open wheel midgets and sprint cars—fined Tony Stewart $10,000 and placed him on probation until the end of their season for an incident at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Our View: While the world of sprint car racing is a little more relaxed than NASCAR, there is still a line that can't be crossed. Still, getting his aggression out in the minor leagues may keep Stewart from running afoul of the Cup officials, which ensures he will earn fantasy points.
