Mears close to signing with RCR?Thursday 8/14, 7:09 PM CT
According to ESPN.com, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) officials are close to announcing that Casey Mears will be the driver of their fourth car in 2009.

Our View: Mears is closer in driving style and personality to Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer instead of Kevin Harvick, so this might be a good fit.
Wood Bros. get Bristol sponsorThursday 8/14, 12:47 PM CT
The Wood Bros. will have sponsorship from Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center at Bristol in two weeks, in celebration of their 500th store. Bill Elliott will be the driver that weekend.

Our View: With an average finish of 16.4 in 42 starts, Bristol is not Elliott's best track, so fantasy owners will want to save him for another race.
Southern 500 returns – sort ofThursday 8/14, 10:43 AM CT
According to NASCAR.com, the Southern 500 will be back on the schedule in 2009, but that doesn't mean that its historic race date of Labor Day has been restored. The spring event will be renamed this year to include the traditional moniker. Jimmie Johnson won the last Southern 500 in 2004.

Our View: That's a step in the right direction, but with Auto Club Speedway unable to sell very many tickets during the Labor Day weekend, it would be nice to see the Southern classic completely restored.
Sauter in No. 08Thursday 8/14, 9:37 AM CT
Johnny Sauter will attempt to give the No. 08 John Carter Dodge its first start this season, with sponsorship from FUBAR energy products.

Our View: This team has failed to qualify in six attempts with three different drivers, so simply making the show will be a victory for them.
