Carpentier Auto Club's top rookieSunday 8/31, 11:56 PM CT
Patrick Carpentier had to go to the back of the pack for a gear box change at the start of the Pepsi 500, but that didn't keep him from being the Rookie of the Race for the sixth time this year with his 18th-place finish.

Our View: Carpentier is racing for a job in 2009 now that Reed Sorenson has been named to drive for Gillett-Evernham Motorsports, and he is steadily improving.
Johnson whips Auto Club fieldSunday 8/31, 11:00 PM CT
Jimmie Johnson built up as much as a 16-second lead during the Pepsi 500 and was never truly contested for the win. In the final 30-lap shootout, he beat Greg Biffle by two seconds.

Our View: Last year, Johnson was the first driver to win from the outside pole; this year, he became the first driver to win from the pole.
Stewart expects to have CC GrubbSunday 8/31, 7:15 PM CT
On his Sirius radio show this week, Tony Stewart said that he has settled on Darian Grubb as his choice for crew chief and expects to make an offer this week, according to NASCAR.com.

Our View: Grubb led Jimmie Johnson's team for a while last year while Steve Letarte was suspended so he has some top notch experience.
Update: Carpentier to the backSunday 8/31, 6:58 PM CT
A last minute gear box change will force Patrick Carpentier to give up his fifth place qualification effort and drop to the back.

Our View: This seriously hampers his chances for a top-20, so he might not be the best dark horse choice for your roster.
No one to the backSunday 8/31, 1:27 PM CT
No one has been reported heading to the back, which means that Johnny Sauter will be alone on the back row.

Our View: Unfortunately, he will almost certainly finish last as well.
