Paul locked in to 3-year dealThursday 7/3, 11:29 PM CT
Chris Paul agreed to a three-year contract extension with an option for a fourth year, this according to the Times Picayune. The deal is estimated at $68 million, $20 million per season.

Our View: Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower and Paul's agent had been in discussions since Wednesday after agreeing in principle on the extension Tuesday.
Arenas agrees to six-year dealThursday 7/3, 11:26 PM CT
Gilbert Arenas has agreed to a six-year, $111 million contract, this according to the Washington Post. The Wiz offered between $125 to $127 million over six years, but Arenas took less in order to help the Wizards have room to add key pieces over the next few seasons. The deal still has to be finalized once the league releases salary cap and luxury tax numbers next week. Arenas told the Post, "What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can't do with $111 million?"

Our View: Arenas has made it his mission to return the team intact for another run at postseason play.
Nuggets considering popular pointThursday 7/3, 8:05 PM CT
According to the Rocky Mountain News, two sources report to the paper that the Nuggets aren't immediately targeting re-signing point guard Anthony Carter, but that Anthony Johnson is a possible replacement. The Nuggets have admitted to having an interest in free-agent points Jannero Pargo, who is 6-foot-1, and 6-2 Carlos Arroyo. Free agent Johnson, is 6-3 with long arms, and could give the Nuggets some much-needed size at the point. Johnson averaged 5.6 points and 3.8 assists for the season, and has career marks of 5.7 points and 2.9 assists.

Our View: The Nuggets have some cap concerns according to the report, so it would make sense that they would not make any quick move on a point guard. Johnson made $2.86 million last season, finishing with Sacramento after a February trade from Atlanta.
Davis expects Brand to signThursday 7/3, 3:39 PM CT
Baron Davis expects to be playing with Elton Brand next season, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I can't wait to have an opportunity to play with one of the best big men in the game," he said.

Our View: Fantasy owners can't wait either, as pairing the two together would only help both of their games, as neither would feel the pressure of having to do it all themselves.
Heat interested in DoolingThursday 7/3, 2:47 PM CT
The Miami Heat are interested in obtaining the services of Keyon Dooling, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Dooling can be valuable in a combo guard role, because he is not a true point guard. He probably would not be an option for fantasy owners no matter where he winds up.
Lue interested in joining SunsThursday 7/3, 2:25 PM CT
Tyronn Lue has expressed his interest in playing for the Phoenix Suns, according to the Arizona Republic. "I feel really good about the Suns. I want to go to a winning team and a good organization," he said.

Our View: Lue could get some minutes in Phoenix as the team plans to cut back on Steve Nash's playing time. It probably wouldn't be enough for him to warrant fantasy consideration, however.
Magic sign LeeThursday 7/3, 2:00 PM CT
First-round pick Courtney Lee has agreed to a contract with the Orlando Magic, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The deal is four years for $6 million.

Our View: Lee should see time right away at guard, although possibly in limited doses. J.J. Redick is still on the Orlando roster and Keith Bogans is an option there as well. His fantasy value will be dependent on the minutes he receives.
Beasley takes elbow to chestThursday 7/3, 11:52 AM CT
Michael Beasley took an elbow to the chest, which ended his first practice with the team, according to the Associated Press. "He probably could have finished if it was the regular season or something like that, but we just wanted to be safe," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Our View: This doesn't sound like a serious issue, though he was taken to see a doctor for precautionary reasons. It is uncertain if he will miss any additional time.
Childress receiving broad interestThursday 7/3, 8:39 AM CT
Josh Childress, a restricted free agent, is receiving "broad and enthusiastic" interest, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The 76ers are known to be one of the teams seeking out his services.

Our View: Childress is probably looking for a team that is willing to start him. He has proven himself to be one of the most efficient players in the league. It's likely that the Lakers are one of the teams in this race after Phil Jackson commmented that he wanted more perimeter shooting and defense on the wing. A sign-and-trade centered around Childress and Lamar Odom would be feasable, especially if the Hawks lose Josh Smith.
Sixers give Smith the red-carpet treatmentThursday 7/3, 8:33 AM CT
The Philadelphia 76ers gave Josh Smith, a restricted free agent, the red carpet treatment yesterday and he was impressed, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Sixers can over Smith a deal in the five-year, $66 million range. "They fit the style of play that I like to play, which is up-tempo," Smith told reporters at the airport. "They have great talent. This is one of the teams that I'm looking at."

Our View: The Hawks could match, but may hesitate given the headaches Smith has caused in the past, large contracts that are due to Mike Bibby and Joe Johnson, and an ownership group that rarely agrees on anything. Putting Smith in an offense with Andre Miller would increase his fantasy value.
Bulls vs. Heat to tip of NBA Summer LeagueThursday 7/3, 8:24 AM CT
The Miami Sun-Sentinel reports that Derrick Rose will square off against Michael Beasley on the first day of the Orlando Summer League this coming Monday.

Our View: Of course, the two players don't actually plan on guarding one another, but this game will be overly-scrutinized - assuming Beasley has recovered from his bruised chest that he suffered in practice earlier this week. Summer League's have a way of misleading fantasy owners, so try to not pay to close attention to what happens next week.
Kaman playing with GermanyThursday 7/3, 8:19 AM CT
News reports say that Chris Kaman has obtained German citizenship and will play in the upcoming Olympics for his new country.

Our View: Kaman and fellow countryman Dirk Nowitzki will be a difficult matchup for the United States big men. The U.S. managed to field a team without one player taller than 6-foot-10 (Kaman and Nowitzki are both seven foot)and only has three post players.
May has been cleared for basketball activitiesThursday 7/3, 8:13 AM CT
Sean May has been cleared for basketball activity and says he'll be ready for training camp in October, according to the Charlotte Observer. May had micro-fracture surgery on his right knee last October.

Our View: “I'm full-go now,” May said Wednesday after working out with North Carolina strength and conditioning coach Jonas Sahratian. Uh-huh. We've heard this before. May has managed just 58 appearances in a possible 246 games since entering the league. IF he is healthy, his presence is badly needed on a frontcourt that likes size and depth. May's weight is a separate but constant issue.
