NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Claxton hopeful of resuming careerWednesday 7/16, 11:14 PM CT
Speedy Claxton is taking a risk by playing in the Hawks free agent mini-camp as he attempts to reestablish himself as an NBA caliber player, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "I'm doing this for me, trying to check and see how my knee feels and how I can play and how I can do on consecutive days."

Our View: Since he has been out of action for so long the Hawks obviously aren't counting on a substantial performance from Claxton, and neither should you.
Lue to sign with BucksWednesday 7/16, 9:43 PM CT
Tyronn Lue has signed a 2-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for $3.9 million, according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View: Lue had been rumored to be on his way to the Bulls or the Suns, but ultimately he took a deal with the Bucks where he will lineup behind Mo Williams.
Camby insulted by tradeWednesday 7/16, 9:35 PM CT
Marcus Camby was insulted when he heard of the trade that sent him to the Clippers, according to the Rocky Mountain News. "I definitely feel insulted..."Blindsided, distraught, disrespected. All those adjectives. I felt like I was the scapegoat for all the first-round exits (five since 2004). Definitely frustrated because I felt that I gave it my all."

Our View: Camby will take his game to the Clippers as he will attempt to replace the since departed Elton Brand, something he should easily be able to do on defense, but he has no chance to do so on offense.
Nowitzki scores 35Wednesday 7/16, 9:04 PM CT
Dirk Nowitzki scored 35 points on Wednesday to lead Germany to a victory over New Zealand on Wednesday, 89-71, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View: The big news here isn't that Nowitzki can score, but that teammates Chris Kaman was forced to sit out the 4th quarter of the game because of an injured ankle. Still, the injury isn't believed to be serious, and with Germany leading big, there was no reason to push Kaman.
Oden ready to start NBA careerWednesday 7/16, 7:56 PM CT
Greg Oden is ready to begin his NBA after having to sit out all of last season due to a knee injury that required surgery, according to the Associated Press. “I’m still rehabbing, but I’m ready to play,” Oden said. “I can work out, I can lift, no 5-on-5, no 3-on-3. That’s where everything is going, towards me being able to play when the season starts..."

Our View: Oden could give the Blazers the inside, defensive presence they have long been searching for. If he is healthy enough to contribute, the Blazers could be a team to contend with in 2008-09.
Dalembert off Olympic teamWednesday 7/16, 7:51 PM CT
Samuel Dalembert has been dropped from the Canadian National basketball team just before the Olympics due to "a reported confrontation with a Canadian official," according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View: No details of the incident have been made public, so any further comment would purely be speculative. His loss will certainly be a big negative for a Canadian squad who likely won't be able to replace the 10.5 point and 10.3 rebound averages that Dalembert produced last season for the Sixers.
Ukic signs 3-year dealWednesday 7/16, 7:29 PM CT
Roko Ukic, the Raptors second round selection in the 2005 NBA Draft, has signed with the club to serve as the teams backup point guard, according to TSN.

Our View: Ukic is still only 22 years old, and he is currently playing for the Croatian National team trying to qualify for the Olympic Games. Last season in Italy he average 11.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 19 Euroleague games.
Gallinari to miss rest of summer leagueWednesday 7/16, 6:40 PM CT
Danilo Gallinari's injured back will keep him out of the remainder of the Las Vegas Summer League, according to the Associated Press. Renaldo Balkman also suffered a sprained ankle and is being listed as day-to-day.

Our View: Gallinari, who was drafted 6th overall, had an MRI that was clear, but the team doesn't want to take any chances that the injury could linger.
Roberson signs with KnicksWednesday 7/16, 4:27 PM CT
Free agent guard Anthony Roberson signed a two year deal with the Knicks on Wednesday in a move that could signal the end of the tumultuous tenure of Stephan Marbury with the club, according to The New York Post.

Our View: This move will give the Knicks 16 players under contract, the limit is 15, so something will need to be done. Most likely, the team will look to do something with Marbury who is no longer in the team's plans.
House may be on the moveWednesday 7/16, 4:20 PM CT
Eddie House may or may not remain in Boston as he continues to angle for a deal of more than one year, according to the Boston Herald. “Eddie’s not going to sign for one year at the minimum,” his agent, Mark Bartelstein said. “There’s no chance of that. He’s got two or three offers on the table right now for more than that.”

Our View: With the recent loss of James Posey, the Celtics may be forced to up their offer to House as they will need depth at the position. Regardless, it's not like House will suddenly become a fantasy option.
Brown, Morris tryout for HawksWednesday 7/16, 4:16 PM CT
Kwame Brown took his traveling tryout show on the road to visit the Atlanta Hawks, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "It's nice to see two big bodies first and foremost," HC Mike Woodson said. "Zaza [Pachulia], Al Horford and Solomon Jones are the only real bigs we've got.

Our View: Randolph Morris was also brought in for a tryout as the team is looking to bolster a somewhat thin front court, at least at the center position.
Posey signs on with HornetsWednesday 7/16, 3:05 PM CT
James Posey has agreed to a four-year deal with the Hornets worth an estimated $25 million, according to ESPN.com. The Celtics had been leery of offering Posey more than two years to return to Boston because of luxury-tax concerns.

Our View: Posey is a phenomenal defender and great role player that will push an already-good Hornets team closer towards the upper echelon of the league.
Gibson inks multi-year dealWednesday 7/16, 9:59 AM CT
Daniel Gibson has agreed to a five-year contract with the Cavs, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Our View: Gibson was on his way to a semi-breakout before missing 17 games with a sprained left ankle. He also missed the final two games of the Eastern Conference Finals with a separated shoulder.
Pacers looking for power forward Wednesday 7/16, 9:24 AM CT
The Pacers offered Jamaal Tinsley to the Heat for Udonis Haslem but were turned down, according to the Indianapolis Star. Indiana is hoping to trade for or sign a power forward, and they would like to deal Tinsley now with T.J. Ford in tow.

Our View: The Pacers are confident they'll be able to deal Jamaal somewhere with so many teams looking for a point guard.
Posey wants a four-year dealWednesday 7/16, 9:13 AM CT
Free agent James Posey is seeking a four-year contract, a source told the Charlotte Observer. So far no team has been willing to offer more than three years. The 31-year-old is being pursued by the Pistons, the Lakers, Hornets, and Wizards, in addition to the Celtics.

Our View: Posey would probably have signed on somewhere by now had he been willing to accept a three-year deal. The Celtics would be wise to bring him back, but we can't blame them for not wanting to go longer than three years.
McGrady would welcome trade to DetroitWednesday 7/16, 9:08 AM CT
The Pistons have said they are not interested in trading for Tracy McGrady, but McGrady has reportedly told ESPN's Steven A. Smith that he would welcome a trade to Detroit, according to the Detroit Free Press. "Is Tracy McGrady interested? Yes he is," Smith said. "I spoke to Tracy McGrady earlier. His basic thing is he's very happy in Houston but he wants to win. So whatever is a winning situation for him is something he is more than willing to entertain."

Our View: A deal is not close to being done, but this is certainly something worth keeping a close eye on.
