NEWSBREAKERS NBA
West hopes to stay in ClevelandSaturday 7/19, 2:33 PM CT
The Chronicle-Telegram reports that Delonte West and the Cavaliers are in negotiations to keep West in Cleveland. West is a restricted free agent.

Our View: West was significantly better last season once he landed with the Cavaliers. Expect his numbers to go up with more familiarity of his running mates. He is a capable backup point guard in deep fantasy leagues.
Thompson is clutchSaturday 7/19, 1:06 PM CT
Through four summer league games, Jason Thompson has averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds. More importantly, he already has hit two game-winning shots under pressure.

Our View: The Kings power forward situation is saturated with unattractive options, but it will be difficult for the rookie to find consistent minutes, regardless.
Dorsey hitting the boardsSaturday 7/19, 12:08 PM CT
Joey Dorsey scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds on Friday in summer league action. He had 14 boards in his previous game.

Our View: Dorsey is in a good situation in Houston. There isn't much beef behind Luis Scola and Yao Ming. He will battle with the currently unsigned Carl Landry for minutes.
Manu heading to ChinaSaturday 7/19, 11:43 AM CT
The Argentine Olympic Committee on Friday named Manu Ginobili one of the 12 players going to Beijing, according to the San Antonio Express. Ginobili injured his left ankle early in the Spurs’ playoff run, jamming it badly during the first-round series against the Phoenix Suns. Since returning to Argentina early this month, Ginobili has kept in daily contact with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, assuring him he has had “zero pain” in the ankle, which the Spurs re-examined on June 19.

Our View: The 2004 champs will play the team that will give them the best chance to repeat.
Oden at 80%Saturday 7/19, 11:36 AM CT
Greg Oden said he was about 80% healthy while at the ESPY awards according to Trailblazers.com.

Our View: The big worry with Oden from the start was how durable his body would be (including his leg that is one-and-a-half inches longer than the other). Fantasy owners should keep that in mind when ranking him against other center eligible players. The position is not as shallow as it has been in the past.
Bynum is improvingSaturday 7/19, 9:41 AM CT
Andrew Bynum, recovering from left knee surgery, has been cleared for light work on the basketball court, according to the LA Times. "The reports are very positive," Kupchak said. "Everything is upbeat. We expect Andrew to be able to go full steam, full bore by training camp."

Our View: Take this news with a grain of salt as knee injuries, especially with big men, can linger on. We won't know anything about his readiness until he starts playing in training camp.
Dooling to the NetsSaturday 7/19, 9:36 AM CT
The Newark Star Ledger reports that Keyon Dooling and the Nets are set to join forces. New Jersey has agreed in principal to a sign-and-trade with Orlando for the veteran point guard.

Our View: It is unclear who the Magic will get in return, but the move certainly helps solidify the Nets backcourt depth. Dooling will not likely see enough minutes to be a fantasy factor.
Jones drops 29 on RocketsSaturday 7/19, 9:33 AM CT
Dahntay Jones' 28th and 29th points on Friday served as game winners over the Houston Rockets in summer league action. He has averaged 21.5 points through four games.

Our View: Jones' 29 points came on eight shots, which is rather incredible. He spent most of his 21 minutes at the free throw line. He is 27 which makes him one of the oldest players in summer action, but his savvy is playing off. Jones has been here many times before. His production should not get you too excited as his team, the Nuggets, are already loaded with scorers.
