Butler may be avoiding legal consequencesSaturday 8/9, 5:14 PM CT
Updating his ongoing legal battles, Hornets forward Rasual Butler can avoid prosecution for felony weapons charges in Dade County, Florida, if he successfully completes four pre-trial conditions arranged by his attorneys and the district attorney's office in Miami, according to the Times-Picayune.

Our View: On Thursday, the Miami office of the state attorney pushed back a scheduled arraignment for 60 days, allowing Butler to complete four pre-trial conditions that could result in the case being dropped. We will keep you posted on his situation moving forward.
Signing Williams ends hopes for LivingstonSaturday 8/9, 5:10 PM CT
By signing Jason Williams, the Clippers basically eliminated themselves from re-signing point guard Shaun Livingston, who still has not been cleared for basketball as he recovers from a knee injury suffered in February 2007, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: It appears the continued frustrations for Livingston are not likely to end any day soon. He left high school ball with such high hopes of becoming a valuable NBA point guard, but now he sits as a man without an employer and a knee ravaged by injury. At this point, it is difficult to say if we will see him in the league any day soon.
Kobe interested in international ball too???Saturday 8/9, 5:05 PM CT
While the NBA was a bit shocked to hear LeBron James would consider playing international ball if the price was right, Laker superstar Kobe Bryant has echoed the sentiment, reportedly interested in returning to Italy (where he spent much of his youth) to play ball, if the price was right, according to the Boston Globe. Asked about LeBron's comments and if he would consider a move to international competition, Bryant commented, "I'd go. I'd probably go. Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up or something like that. Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 (million dollars)?"

Our View: The talk always centers around money, but the exchange rate for the slumping American dollar is what makes this a hot topic. Add that international leagues are not confined by salary caps and are supported by corporate dollars rather than an individual owner and it is easy to see one of these teams coming up with the dough to make such an offer. LeBron is a free agent in two years, and while NBA teams are gearing up to make that run to hire him, it would not shock to see an international squad do the same. Kobe is a free agent next summer, thus the experiment could become a reality sooner than we realize. Stay tuned.
Arthur's grades clearedSaturday 8/9, 11:45 AM CT
Darrell Arthur, the former University of Kansas standout and first-round pick of the Grizzlies, had an investigation into his high school grades closed, according to ESPN.com. His grades were ruled legitimate, but were looked into when a teacher said they were altered in high school.

Our View: Arthur dropped like a rock due to a mysterious kidney illness that frightened teams. He still has loads of talent and could see regular playing time in Memphis.
Finley to Mavs?Saturday 8/9, 11:01 AM CT
Michael Finley is still hoping to receive a better offer than the one San Antonio has given him, and though it is unlikely, the Dallas Mavericks could be interested in him, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Finley is a backup at this point, and will not make an impact on fantasy teams.
Hawks match offer for SmithSaturday 8/9, 8:45 AM CT
The Atlanta Hawks have decided to match the five-year, $58 million offer sheet forward Josh Smith signed with the Grizzlies, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "Tonight, the Hawks organization received an offer sheet from the Memphis Grizzlies for Josh Smith. We are happy to announce that we will match their offer sheet," Hawks general manager Rick Sund said

Our View: Smith is a quality fantasy player who put up over 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.8 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. He is only 22, so those numbers should improve in time.
