Kidd out of international gameSunday 8/24, 8:05 PM CT
Jason Kidd has said he will no longer be a part of international basketball competitions, choosing to go out on top with his gold medal, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'm undefeated. I told them I can retire now from international ball," Kidd said.

Our View: Kidd probably wouldn't have many more opportunities to play anyway, as he is 35 years of age, and the point guard position in the NBA is clearly evolving.
Ligament damage for Bogut?Sunday 8/24, 10:24 AM CT
Center Andrew Bogut was to undergo an MRI today to determine the severity of an ankle injury he suffered during Australia's 116-85 loss to the United States in the men's basketball quarterfinals at the Olympic Games on Wednesday night, according to the Syndney Morning Herald. "I think it's a ligament," Andrew Bogut said.

Our View: Seamus Dalton, the team doctor for Australia, said he did not know the severity of the injury, and we would like to hear what the American doctors have to say, but it doesn't sound good. Reports from Australian Olympica coach Brian Goorjian indicate a loud "pop" was heard, a definitive sign of major injury. We'll track the situation and keep you posted.
Songalia injuredSunday 8/24, 10:02 AM CT
Washington forward Darius Songaila pulled out of the Olympics because of a sore back, according to the Washington Post. He began experiencing discomfort while training with the Lithuanian team last month, only a few days before it embarked for China.

Our View: According to Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld, Songaila is expected to be healthy when the Wizards open training camp late next month.
Boone ready to battle for minutesSunday 8/24, 9:59 AM CT
Josh Boone admits he's willing to fight for his job as the starting center again in camp, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. "Everybody wants to play. Everyone wants to keep his spot. I'm going to do whatever I can to keep my spot," he said. "And if it so happens that somebody beats me out - which hopefully is not gonna happen, I'm going to do everything in my power not to (let it) - if that's the case, he's still my teammate and I want to win."

Our View: The Nets added top rookie Brook Lopez via the draft and he is expected to win the starting job, but it appears Boone is going to push him for the honor. He emerged from a six-man race last season, and we know he has the heart to compete. We'll see how it goes, but Lopez is rather talented and is getting paid too much money to spend much time on the bench.
Smith done for the year, may need surgerySunday 8/24, 9:55 AM CT
Jason Smith was examined Tuesday afternoon by Dr. David Altchek, the medical director for the Nets and an orthopedic surgeon in New York, according to phillyBurbs.com. The new MRI tests confirmed Smith's ACL injury that Sixers team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy had previously diagnosed.

Our View: Smith will continue with therapy and medication before a follow-up visit with Altchek in early September, which is when Smith and the Sixers should find out when he'll undergo knee surgery. Smith is expected to miss the 2008-09 season.
Ginobili aggravates foot injury in OlympicsSunday 8/24, 9:41 AM CT
Manu Ginobili did not suit up for Argentina’s bronze-medal game against Lithuania at the Olympics on Sunday and said after the 87-75 victory that he was headed for San Antonio for more tests on the strained ligament in his left foot, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: It is the same injury that hobbled him at the end of the Spurs’ season. He re-injured it during the first half of Friday’s 101-81 loss to the United States in the semifinals.
Heat to target BoozerSunday 8/24, 8:59 AM CT
Reports out of Miami indicate the Heat are due to come into open funds to pursue free agents in the coming years, and with that money they plan to show love to Carlos Boozer, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: The Heat likely will have a little more than $11 million next summer, assuming Shawn Marion isn't re-signed. Moving Michael Beasley to small forward would make it work and could put the Heat back on the map. It's all pie in the sky right now, but the future could be bright in Miami if they can get it done.
