NEWSBREAKERS NFL
Rodgers says he'd welcome FavreSunday 7/13, 11:48 PM CT
Aaron Rodgers did an interview with MSNBC.com and said he would welcome Brett Favre back, and was not concerned with things outside of his control.

Our View: The Favre drama is dominating websites, blogs and major media football news. Until training camp begins expect it to be the only worthwhile NFL topic.
Parker; from Bolts to BrownSunday 7/13, 5:05 PM CT
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that if Joe Jurevicius can't take part in training camp the team is expected to make a deal for Chargers' wide receiver Eric Parker.

Our View: San Diego is loaded at receiver and the addition of Parker would leave the team with Kevin Kasper and Travis Wilson battling for the for the No. 3 role in the offense.
Bucs will try and trade SimmsSunday 7/13, 4:58 PM CT
With Jeff Garcia slated to start this season in Tampa, the Bucs will try and trade Chris Simms without really knowing what his value is, this according to the Tampa Tribune. Head coach Jon Gruden is said to favor Brian Griese over Simms and then selected Josh Johnson in the fifth round of the draft which in this day and age, guarantees a signal-caller a roster spot. Simms is the fifth quarterback on Tampa Bay's depth chart and wants a chance to play somewhere.

Our View: Simms has said some harsh things about Gruden, similiar to those said by Key Johnson two years ago, and the quarterback wants this relationship to end.
Smith winning battle for Ravens QB jobSunday 7/13, 2:42 PM CT
Troy Smith is in the lead in the battle to become the starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens because of his lack of mistakes, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Smith is short (how can he possibly throw it over the head of 6-foot-9 left tackle Jared Gaither?) and his long wind-up means he is slow to get rid of the ball. That said, he obviously has talent so it would be interesting to watch what he could do with the ball. That said, stay away from him in fantasy leagues.
Crowder could get new contractSunday 7/13, 2:35 PM CT
Linebacker Channing Crowder could be in line for a long-term deal from the Dolphins if he plays well and stays healthy, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Crowder only played in 11 games last year, collecting 77 tackles. He is a decent option in IDP fantasy leagues, but more sacks would certainly help raise his value.
Dahl has upper hand at guardSunday 7/13, 2:30 PM CT
Harvey Dahl is in line to take over the starting right guard spot in Atlanta due in par to his nasty disposition, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The Falcons offensive line was arguably the worst in the NFL last year, so changes should not surprise anyone. They need to gel quickly in order to save Matt Ryan from getting killed and to open holes for Michael Turner.
James in great offseason shapeSunday 7/13, 1:02 PM CT
Edgerrin James looked to be in great shape in preparing for what could be a 20 carry-per-game season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: This is a bit of good news for fantasy owners, but James will be 30 on August 1, which is the magic age running backs suddenly deteriorate. He is no longer an elite fantasy back, but he is still a serviceable number two or three type.
Slaton may not see many carriesSunday 7/13, 12:21 PM CT
Steve Slaton will have a tough time getting carries behind veterans Ahman Green, Chris Brown and Chris Taylor, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Some fantasy owners have pegged Slaton as a sleeper running back in their drafts, but he seems stuck behind the veterans for the time being. Of course, things could change very quickly because of the nature of the running back position, so don't write him off just yet.
Langford inks contractSunday 7/13, 12:08 PM CT
Defensive end Kendall Langford, the Dolphins third-round draft pick, has signed a deal with the team, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: Langford will be battling in training camp for playing time but will most likely wind up as a backup and special teams contributor.
Ravens working on getting Flacco signedSunday 7/13, 12:01 PM CT
The Baltimore Ravens are making it a priority to get first-round draft pick, quarterback Joe Flacco, signed to a contract so he can compete for a starting spot immediately, according to the Carroll County Times. The team has already had four meetings with his agent and have plans for more.

Our View: Even if he is in camp on time, Flacco does not have value in fantasy football, as rookie quarterbacks usually spend more time on their backs than they do throwing touchdowns.
Gross deal unlikelySunday 7/13, 11:50 AM CT
It is unlikely that offensive tackle Jordan Gross will get a long-term deal, meaning he will have to play this season under the franchise tag, according to the HeraldOnline.com.

Our View: Gross will get about $7.5 million this season, and he is an integral cog to the team's line, so his fantasy impact comes in terms of the yards DeAngleo Williams and Jonathan Stewart gain.
Jurevicius will play this seasonSunday 7/13, 11:41 AM CT
Joe Jurevicius has had four operations on his right knee this year, but he fully intends to play for the Browns this season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper reports he will start training camp on the physically unable to return list.

Our View: Jurevicius's fantasy value is in serious question because of his knee problems. He was a marginal fantasy wide out last season, and his value is even less for the 2008 campaign.
Tank is impressing CowboysSunday 7/13, 10:52 AM CT
Terry Johnson has improved tremendously and could receive a large number of snaps in the Cowboys 3-4 defense this season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Johnson is a great talent, and as long as he stays out of trouble, he should help the Cowboys defense be a solid option for fantasy players again this season.
Royal could startSunday 7/13, 10:42 AM CT
Eddie Royal has a legitimate chance to start at wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, according to Pro Football Weekly. His speed and playmaking ability stand out among Keary Colbert and Darrell Jackson, the players he is battling for that job.

Our View: If the second-round selection does start, it would obviously boost his fantasy value, bur he would still be no more than a fourth or fifth guy at wide out, as rookie receivers rarely make a large impact.
Camarillo could be utilized moreSunday 7/13, 10:03 AM CT
Greg Camarillo is making such a good showing in the offseason, he could be a valuable contributor to the Dolphins offense this season, according to the Sporting News.

Our View: The Dolphins don't even have a quarterback right now, so Camarillo's contributions to fantasy teams may be difficult to gauge until that battle gets settled. However, he is someone to keep an eye on and possibly take a flyer on late in fantasy drafts.
Jets not interested in FavreSunday 7/13, 8:12 AM CT
More Favre: the New York Jets say they will not pursue the services of quarterback Brett Favre, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Chad Pennington's arm is such that he has trouble throwing the ball 20 yards in the air, and Kellen Clemens has yet to prove he belongs as a starting quarterback in the NFL, so the Jets seem like a decent option. Alas, Favre will have to turn elsewhere.
Saints sign PressleySunday 7/13, 8:08 AM CT
The Saints have signed their fifth-round pick, defensive end DeMario Pressley, to a three-year contract, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Will Smith and Charles Grant man the edges for New Orleans, so Pressley will likely have to make his mark on special teams.
