Second overall pick Long agrees to six-year dealSaturday 7/19, 10:42 PM CT
The Rams signed second overall pick Chris Long to a six-year deal Saturday. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Our View: It's good that the Rams locked Long in before training camp began. He is expected to start opposite Leonard Little as part of what should be a pretty good front four in St. Louis.
Kaczur had 202 OxyContin pillsSaturday 7/19, 9:34 PM CT
Nick Kaczur had 202 OxyContin pills labeled as being made in Canada when he was arrested in April in New York, according to ESPN.com. Kaczur is scheduled to be arraigned next week in Whitestown, N.Y., on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.

Our View: Kaczur will remain with the Pats despite the arrest.
Favre doesn't comment on rift with PackersSaturday 7/19, 9:31 PM CT
In town to present former teammate Frank Winters for induction into the Packers' Hall of Fame, Brett Favre didn't comment on his rift with Packers' management, according to the AP. "That's the thing about Green Bay," said Favre, who spoke for about three minutes before stepping off the stage and ducking out a side door. "It's a special place. There's a lot of tradition. You think of the Packers, you think of all these great names, and to be a part of that -- and I know Frank feels honored -- is a special thing. I'm thankful that he asked me to be here."

Our View: We didn't really anticipate Brett addressing his status, as he didn't want to cause any tension during Winters' special day.
Burress, Giants close to dealSaturday 7/19, 9:26 PM CT
Plaxico Burress said in a Q&A with SI's Arash Markazi that a new deal between he and the Giants is imminent. The wideout anticipates being on the field at the start of training camp.

Our View: It was looking like an agreement was close a little over a week ago, so don't consider this a done deal just yet. However, it sounds like Plax will be in camp on time, so his fantasy owners needn't worry.
Farrior wants to stay a SteelerSaturday 7/19, 2:29 PM CT
James Farrior wants to re-sign with the Steelers even if it means he has to take on a reduced role, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: The team's oldest starter, Farrior is entering the final year of a $16.4 million contract extension he signed in 2004. And while Farrior remains optimistic about a new deal, he is realistic enough to understand that the Steelers' track record for re-signing veterans over 30 isn't good.
Rookie Davis signsSaturday 7/19, 2:26 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that TE Fred Davis has finally agreed to a four-year deal with the Redskins.

Our View: The 48th overall pick got the deal inked just a day before training camp opens. With Chris Cooley ahead of him on the depth chart, he doesn't figure to be much of a fantasy factor this season.
Asomugha could hold outSaturday 7/19, 1:12 PM CT
Sources in Oakland say don’t be shocked if CB Nnamdi Asomugha holds out from the first couple of weeks of training camp to express disappointment with his contract situation.

Our View: Asomugha is one of the top corners in the league and regardless of how much time he misses and what his contract situation is, he should have an impact with Oakland this season. He had eight interceptions two seasons ago.
Porter should return by Week 1Saturday 7/19, 10:29 AM CT
Head coach Jack Del Rio is among the most optimistic regarding Jerry Porter's recent surgery to repair his hamstring, according to the Times-Union. "Jerry had a successful surgical repair to a hamstring tendon that had continued to bother him," Del Rio said. "We expect a complete recovery in time for the regular season."

Our View: It's still likely that he will miss the entire preseason. Given that he's in a new offense with new teammates, expect the first half of the season to be somewhat of an adjustment period.
Springs in best shape everSaturday 7/19, 8:49 AM CT
After considering retirement earlier this offseason, Shawn Springs is now in the best shape of his career, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Springs has always had intriguing talent but has not always capitalized. He totaled 62 tackles and four interceptions last season, and could be on his way to improving those numbers in 2008.
Jackson faces telling campSaturday 7/19, 8:46 AM CT
Chad Jackson told the Boston Globe that he believes this season is a make or break year for his career. Entering his third NFL season, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound wide receiver is finally healthy and focused, positioned to capitalize on his tantalizing talent, and hoping to provide the Patriots with another option at receiver.

Our View: Jackson's role in Tom Brady's offense will be closely followed. The ability is there for him to make an impact this season, but there is a lot of talent in fron t of him.
