Fourth-round pick Jeremy Thompson (Wake Forest) inked a four-year deal with the Packers reportedly worth $3.4 million, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Howard inks with Colts Thursday 7/24, 11:49 PM CT
Fifth-round pick Marcus Howard (Georgia) has inked a four-year deal with the Colts, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Howard is expected to see action as a pass-rusher in the rotation at defensive end behind starters Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney, who is coming back from foot surgery. He could register a few sacks and hold some fantasy value in deeper IDP leagues.
Chiefs sign Marshall Thursday 7/24, 11:43 PM CT
The Chiefs have signed Timon Marshall to a two-year deal, according to NFL.com. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The Chiefs are thin at receiver and Marshall could have a shot to make the final roster, but won't likely make a fantasy impact if he does.
Cody moved back to DE Thursday 7/24, 11:36 PM CT
Dan Cody has been moved from linebacker back to defensive end, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: Cody has failed to make an impact in the NFL so far due to injuries, and the Ravens are hoping he can make a solid contribution while moved to end, which is his natural position.
Taylor to remain active in offense Thursday 7/24, 9:57 PM CT
Adrian Peterson established himself as the workhorse of the Vikings' offense as a rookie in 2007, but coach Brad Childress noted that there will still be plenty of carries for Chester Taylor in 2008, according to the Star Tribune. Childress said, "I think Chester has a great mindset. He knows there are going to be plenty of carries in there for him. I think he appreciates the ability to be fresh and contribute. His approach during training camp, I thought, was very good last year and it was very good during OTAs. I wouldn’t expect to see anything different."

Our View: Childress wants Peterson to remain fresh, and the team previously stated that they will experiment with formations that feature both backs. Taylor should still hold decent fantasy value in 2008, namely in PPR leagues.
Winslow focused on football Thursday 7/24, 9:48 PM CT
Kellen Winslow Jr is solely focused on football heading into training camp, and is putting his desire for a new contract on hold, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He said he does not want to be a distraction and added, "I left a lot on the field last year. I watched the film and saw things I could have done better. I probably could've caught 100 balls. Touchdowns, I only had five, so I can get a lot better in each category."

Our View: This is encouraging news, and his fantasy stock remains high as an elite fantasy tight end.
Dorsey remains unsigned Thursday 7/24, 9:41 PM CT
Glenn Dorsey and the Chiefs are not yet close to reaching a deal, according to the Kansas City Star. Contract talks have been temporarily suspended, as indicated by team president Carl Peterson.

Our View: Dorsey, who was selected fifth overall, is the highest unsigned draft pick. He was expected to shore up the Chiefs defensive line in the middle this season, but he is missing valuable practice time while he remains unsigned.

Ben Watson, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is slated to practice once a day in training camp, according to the Boston Herald. He didn't appear hindered during Thursday's session as he ran routes and caught passes.

Battle reports to camp Thursday 7/24, 8:24 PM CT
Arnaz Battle has reported to the 49ers for training camp, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View: Battle will compete with Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill for the number three role out of the slot alongside starters Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson. If he wins the job, Battle could post favorable numbers with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz at the controls of the 49ers' offense.
Engram reports to camp Thursday 7/24, 8:16 PM CT
As expected, Bobby Engram has reported to training camp with the Seahawks, according to the AP.

Our View: He is still unhappy with his contract, and will likely be playing with a chip on his shoulder this season if the team continues to refuse to re-negotiate with him. It is unlikely he will challenge 94 receptions again, but could still have a productive campaign.
Keller released Thursday 7/24, 8:04 PM CT
Sam Keller has been released by the Raiders, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Keller had a productive career at Nebraska but went undrafted, due mainly to poor mechanics and consistency issues with his accuracy. He wasn't expected to challenge for a backup job with the Raiders.
Curry to be limited Thursday 7/24, 7:56 PM CT
Ronald Curry is going to be limited to one practice per day in training camp as the team remains cautious with him while coming off foot surgery, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View: Curry is stronger and in better overall shape this season than he has been in the past (thanks to conditioning coach Brad Roll). Curry will be good to go for Week 1 and is safe to draft, namely as a number four receiver with sleeper potential.
Chargers sign Cason Thursday 7/24, 7:47 PM CT
The Chargers have reached a deal with first-round pick Antoine Cason (Arizona), according to ProFootballTalk.com. He inked a five-year contract worth $12.1 million.

Our View: Cason possesses great instincts and ball skills, but is not ready to challenge Quentin Jammer for his starting job. This is good news that he signed on time, however.
Kasper would be No. 3 WR Thursday 7/24, 7:40 PM CT
Sports Illustrated notes that Kevin Kasper would be the Browns' number three receiver if the season started right now.

Our View: The 30-year-old vet is currently ahead of Travis Wilson and Joshua Cribbs for the slot role on the depth chart. The Browns' field a strong aerial attack, but Kasper failed to make an impact with Denver, Arizona, New England, or Detroit, as he only has nine career receptions in the NFL. He ranks as a marginal fantasy prospect.
Marshall update Thursday 7/24, 7:32 PM CT
Adam Schefter of NFL Network states that Brandon Marshall could be suspended for four to eight games. He has been arrested three times in the last year and has a DUI charge pending.

Our View: The league is expected to make an official decision on his status by next week.
Davis will wear headset Thursday 7/24, 7:25 PM CT
It has been decided that Andra Davis will wear the defensive headset for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: So Davis now looks to be an every-down player again, and the starter alongside D'Qwell Jackson on the inside. But he could still lose the job if he struggles through training camp and the preseason.
Bills ink Hardy Thursday 7/24, 7:20 PM CT
The Bills have inked second-round pick James Hardy (Indiana), according to Bills.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Offensive coordinator Turk Schonert said, "James is coming along. He's like every rookie, but his talent is there. He's a great weapon and he and Trent just need to get on the same page. He's just got to get a lot of reps and I've got to do a good job of putting him in good positions and simplifying it if I have to."

Our View: Hardy has a great shot to start opposite Lee Evans as a rookie, but expectations should be tempered, as Trent Edwards is still learning the ropes, and Hardy will likely struggle, as rookie receivers geneally do.
Tamme signs with Colts Thursday 7/24, 6:56 PM CT
Fourth-round pick Jacob Tamme (Kentucky) signed with the Colts, according to the Indianapolis Star. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Tamme possesses great hands and is expected to effectively replace Ben Utecht, who departed for Cincinnati.

The Colts have inked third-round pick Philip Wheeler (Georgia Tech), according to the Indianapolis Star. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Westbrook reports to camp Thursday 7/24, 6:39 PM CT
Brian Westbrook is still looking for a new contract, but reported to training camp Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: Missing camp would have cost Westbrook a fine of $15,000 a day plus a prorated portion of his signing bonus. He considered not reporting, but opted to honor his commitment as a leader of the team.
Runnels waived Thursday 7/24, 6:35 PM CT
J.D. Runnels has been waived by the Bears, according to the Daily Herald.

Burress will practice once a day Thursday 7/24, 6:26 PM CT
Plaxico Burress will only practice once a day during training camp, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Once a day is better than not at all, as he is still looking for a contract extension with the team.
Peters uncertain for camp Thursday 7/24, 6:20 PM CT
The Bills are uncertain if Jason Peters will report for the start of training camp on Friday, according to the AP. The team has had little contact with him over the past few months regarding his contract dispute. Chief operating officer Russ Brandon said, "To be very honest, it’s truly been a roadmap of silence to date. We expect Jason to be here to honor his commitment to the organization because we made a substantial commitment to him two years ago."

Our View: Peters was already fined $8,638 for missing the team’s two mandatory minicamp practices last month. He would be fined $15,000 for each day of camp he misses if he decides to be a holdout.
Broncos sign Royal Thursday 7/24, 6:15 PM CT
The Broncos have signed rookie Eddie Royal, on the same day that Rod Smith announced his retirement, according to the AP. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Royal possesses great quickness and is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He will compete for a starting job opposite Brandon Marshall, but should ultimately serve a minor role, as is a common case with rookie receivers.
Tyree placed on PUP list Thursday 7/24, 6:00 PM CT
Updating a previous report, David Tyree has been placed on the PUP list, according to TSN.

Our View: He has been dealing with lingering problems during his recovery from surgery on his right knee. He is in jeopardy of not having a roster spot for the 2008 campaign, as the Giants have a deep receiving corps.
Jordan to be moved soon Thursday 7/24, 5:55 PM CT

Pennington played through injuries Thursday 7/24, 5:36 PM CT
Chad Pennington revealed that he was playing with two torn ligaments in his right ankle last season, according to the NY Post. He said, "It was an injury that I could easily have taken three weeks off, but you guys know how I am, I didn't believe it that."

Our View: Pennington is a tough pro, but is still expected to lose to Kellen Clemens for the starting gig at quarterback this season.
Rod Smith retires Thursday 7/24, 5:29 PM CT
As expected, Rod Smith has retired from the NFL, according to the AP. Coach Mike Shanahan said, "People ask me should Rod be in the Hall of Fame. You’re darn right he should be. He put as much pride in blocking for the running backs than he did catching the football. I’m just so proud to have a guy like this that I hope is with the organization for a long time.”

Our View: He spent all 12 seasons of his career with the Broncos, and holds franchise records in receptions (849) receiving yards (11,389) and touchdown catches (68). He battled a hip problem in 2007, which led to his decision to end his career.
Boldin won't re-sign? Thursday 7/24, 5:23 PM CT
Anquan Boldin says he won't re-sign with the Cardinals, according to the East Valley Tribune. He is unhappy that his contract has not been re-negotiated, and will leave for another team next season. He intends to play out the final year of his contract with the Cardinals this season.

Our View: He has been among the most productive receivers in the NFL since his rookie campaign in 2003, when he hauled in 101 receptions for 1,377 yards and eight scores. He should have another strong season in 2008, especially since he will likely be playing with a chip on his shoulder.
Williams dealing with stiff back Thursday 7/24, 4:44 PM CT
First-round pick Chris Williams, who signed with the Bears on Wednesday, has left Thursday's practice with a stiff back, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He left the field during a one-on-one pass rushing drill. Coach Lovie Smith commented, "We'll always err in favor of the players, but it was to the point where he couldn't practice. When I say there is some stiffness, I don't know exactly how much, but he couldn't practice. The guys know there's a difference between pain and injury. It seems like his was more of an injury."

Our View: Williams is expected to play a key factor in the Bears' offense this season, as he is slated to start at left tackle, allowing John Tait to man the right side, where he is best suited. We will keep you posted regarding the severity of Williams' ailment.
Jets ink Gholston Thursday 7/24, 4:39 PM CT

Our View: The team actually asked him to not come to camp as they are trying to trade him and want to keep him completely healthy. Originally, Jordan was going to report anyway, but he is not currently at camp.
Thomas could miss two weeksThursday 7/24, 3:17 PM CT
The Redskins have confirmed that Devin Thomas will miss 10-14 days with a hamstring injury. He was carted off the practice field early on Thursday. Thomas was hurt running down the right sideline for a deep pass from Jason Campbell and fell to the ground as he went for the catch.

Our View: This is unfortunate for Thomas who now falls behind a long list of wideouts in preparation for the season. However, Thomas should be ready to go by the time preseason games are going on. Fellow rookie Malcolm Kelly may benefit the most from his absence in camp.
Jones is doing light running for nowThursday 7/24, 2:55 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune reports that although newly signed running back Kevin Jones is on the physically unable to perform list, he's been on a side field doing light running as his right knee continues to heal.

Our View: Jones had surgery on his ACL last winter. We hope his stint on the PUP list is a short one so that the Bears can start taking steps to naming their starting running back. He is competing with incumbent Adrian Peterson and rookie Matt Forte for the job.
Bodden gets extensionThursday 7/24, 2:45 PM CT
Leigh Bodden received a four-year $27 million contract extension on Thursday. He had 88 total tackles last season to go with six interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He should improve a defense that finshed near the bottom of the league in 2007.

Our View: Bodden was healthy the entire season last year. In his previous four campaigns, he missed 21 total games due to various injuries. He is worth considering in IDP leagues.
Thomas carted offThursday 7/24, 2:40 PM CT
The Washington Post reports that Devin Thomas was carted off the field on Thursday after suffering a hamstring injury. Thomas was hurt running down the right sideline for a deep pass from Jason Campbell and fell to the ground as he went for the catch.

Our View: Zorn, speaking immediately after the morning practice, said the team was not yet certain of the severity of the injury, but that he did not believe Thomas, who is getting treatment now, would be out too long.
Blue is cutThursday 7/24, 2:32 PM CT
Blue Adams was released by the Bengals on Thursday. He totaled 15 tackles and one sack a year ago.

Our View: You're still our boy, Blue. But you continue to be irrelevant when it comes to fantasy leagues.
Glenn not on team flightThursday 7/24, 2:11 PM CT
Wide receiver Terry Glenn was not on the Cowboys' team flight to training camp according to the Dallas Morning News. He has been at odds with the team because they want him to sign a $500,000 wavier in case he reinjures his right knee. Glenn is refusing to do so.

Our View: It has been a disgruntled offseason for the aging receiver. He had no catches in the regular season last year and he may be on his way to repeating that performance if he doesn't get into camp.
Rogers looking goodThursday 7/24, 1:53 PM CT
Defensive tackle Shaun Rogers checked in at 359 pounds, and has been impressive during the Browns training camp practices, according to Peter King of SI.com.

Our View: Cleveland needs Rogers to play well if they hope to make a serious run at the Super Bowl this season. It still does not make the Browns defense fantasy-worthy, however.
Andrews may holdoutThursday 7/24, 1:40 PM CT
Pro Bowl offensive lineman Shawn Andrews may holdout because he is upset with his current contract, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View: Needless to say, this would be a big blow for the Eagles, as Andrews has developed into a premier offensive lineman. Nothing is official yet, but keep an eye on the situation, especially if you are a fantasy owner of Brian Westbrook or Donovan McNabb.
Seymour weighs inThursday 7/24, 1:31 PM CT
Richard Seymour has come to camp with a new, thinner body after losing 10 pounds in the offseason, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: A huge part of their defense, a healthy and trimmer Seymour could pay big dividends for the Patriots defense, thus improving their potential in fantasy leagues.
Hester threatens to sit out the seasonThursday 7/24, 1:18 PM CT
The Chicago Sun Times reports that Devin Hester is willing to play hardball in order to get a new deal done. "It's time for me to take a stand. We're going to stand by our decision to do (hold out), and we feel like this can go down to whenever in the season or the end of the season. No matter what."

Our View: It will be interesting to see who breaks first. General manager Jerry Angelo has said that the organization will not negotiate with players who are AWOL.
Arrington impressing earlyThursday 7/24, 1:17 PM CT
Wide receiver Adrian Arrington has played well early in training camp, making several impressive catches, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Arrington, the team's seventh-round selection, still must fight to claim a spot on the roster, but he certainly has a shot at doing it should he continue to play well.
Colston misses practiceThursday 7/24, 1:11 PM CT
Wide receiver Marques Colston, fresh off of signing a contract extension, missed the Saints practice this morning, but is expected to participate in the afternoon session, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: The move was described as a precautionary move, and the fact that Colston will be back at practice in the afternoon reaffirms that.
Omon signs dealThursday 7/24, 1:00 PM CT
Running back Xavier Omon, the Bills sixth-round pick, has signed a contract with the team, according to BuffaloBills.com.

Our View: Omon comes out of Division II Northwest Missouri State and to make the roster, he'll likely have to prove himself on special teams.
Moss has impressive startThursday 7/24, 12:54 PM CT
Santana Moss has had an impressive start to training camp, catching everything that is coming his way, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Though it's early, this is good news for fantasy players who have Moss on their roster. A bit of a disappointment last season, he still has the potential to be a solid number two wide out on fantasy teams.
Poppinga receives contract extensionThursday 7/24, 12:48 PM CT
Linebacker Brady Poppinga received a contract extension from the Packers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View: Poppinga will compete with Brandon Chillar for the starting job at strongside linebacker, but even if he does not wind up starting, he is a valuable special teams player.
Graham could get extension soonThursday 7/24, 12:43 PM CT
Shayne Graham and the Cincinnati Bengals are working on a long-term contract extension, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View: Graham nailed 91.2% of his kicks last season and is one of the premier players at his position. If he is available in the last round of fantasy drafts, pull the trigger and select him.
Bills sign EllisThursday 7/24, 12:35 PM CT
The Buffalo Bills have signed their third-round selection, defensive end Chris Ellis, according to BuffaloBills.com.

Our View: Ellis will start off in a back-up role but could become a situational pass rusher on passing downs.

The Sacramento Bee reports that first-round draft pick Kentwan Balmer has agreed to a five-year-deal with the 49ers.

Brady limited in training campThursday 7/24, 12:20 PM CT
Tom Brady is on a "pitch count" and did not throw much during the opening practice of Patriots training camp according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Mayo brings some much-needed youth to New England's defense, and is expected to challenge for a starting job immediately.
Marshall meets with GoodellThursday 7/24, 11:38 AM CT
Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall had a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his recent off-field troubles, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Goodell will announce soon whether or not Marshall will face a suspension for the upcoming season. This has a huge effect on fantasy teams, as a lengthy suspension will drop Marshall's value considerably.
Ward will practiceThursday 7/24, 11:27 AM CT
The NY Daily News reports that Derrick Ward could be limited to one practice per day at the start of camp. He is recovering from a broken fibula.

Our View: Ward won't see much time unless Brandon Jacobs or Ahmad Bradshaw goes down. He's a good play if that does occur.
Bennett signs with CowboysThursday 7/24, 11:11 AM CT
The 61st overall pick, tight end Martellus Bennett, and the Cowboys have come to terms on a four-year contract.

Our View: Bennett will not see much time on the field but could be No. 2 on depth chart behind Jason Witten. He stuggled in OTAs earlier this summer.
Bullocks still uncertainThursday 7/24, 11:07 AM CT
Daniel Bullocks is still not ready to go nearly a year after surgery to repair his ACL. He will begin training camp on the PUP list.

Our View: This is a bit concerning given the amount of time he has had to recover. We expect him ready by Week 1 but no guarantees.
McDonald to start camp on PUP listThursday 7/24, 11:04 AM CT
Shaun McDonald will begin training camp on the PUP list. He had his knee scoped earlier this summer, but rumors persist that he underwent reconstructive surgery.

Our View: McDonald was already looking at reduced playing time now that Mike Martz has left town, but this figures to make him irrelevant throughout the first few weeks of the season. Avoid him in your drafts.
Horn to report on timeThursday 7/24, 10:57 AM CT
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Joe Horn will report to camp on time despite openly requesting a trade to a contender in the offseason. "We will do everything that is mandatory," Horn's agent, Ralph Vitolo said Thursday morning. "He'll be ready to roll. He's under contract and unless he's traded, Joe will be there, he'll work hard, be professional and compete for a starting job."

Our View: Horn still hopes to be traded and if he isn't, don't count on him being much of a fantasy factor this season. He caught 27 passes and one touchdown with the Falcons last season.
Parker not 100%Thursday 7/24, 10:53 AM CT
Eric Parker will not be visiting interested teams anytime soon according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Sources said last month the Chargers would release or trade Parker before training camp, and his agent has been working on securing a job for Parker. It is unclear where he will land, though several teams have expressed interest.

Our View: Parker is still not 100% after surgery on his toe which kept him from making a single catch last season.
Colston reaches extension with SaintsThursday 7/24, 10:14 AM CT
Marques Colston has signed a three-year contract extension that will keep him under contract with the Saints through the 2011 season, according to the Sports Ticker.

Our View: Considering the overwhelming numbers he has posted, Colston more than deserved the money. A seventh-round draft selection in 2006, Colston has 168 career receptions - a record for any player in his first two seasons.
Albert reaches deal with ChiefsThursday 7/24, 10:07 AM CT
Branden Albert, the No. 15 overall pick, reached an agreement with the Chiefs on a five-year contract.

Our View: Albert could start immediately for an offensive line in need. He has plenty of ability but shouldn't be expected to excel right away.
Kelly working with first teamThursday 7/24, 10:00 AM CT
The Washington Post reports that Malcolm Kelly is playing X, or split end on the first team in early training camp drills.

Our View: It's doubtful that Kelly has much of an impact as a rookie, but it looks like he will get opportunities. He has a head start on fellow rookie Devin Thomas for the time being.
Thomas carted offThursday 7/24, 9:56 AM CT
The Washington Post reports that Devin Thomas was carted off the field on Thursday after seemingly suffering a hamstring injury.

Our View: No word yet on how serious the injury is. We'll keep you posted.
Tyree on PUP listThursday 7/24, 9:53 AM CT
The NY Daily News reports that Tom Coughlin said Wednesday he had no idea when David Tyree would be able to practice again, and that any decision would be made after Tyree reports to camp and is examined by team doctors today.

Our View: Tyree had surgery on his right knee in April. The Giants added Mario Manningham to an already crowded wide receiver corps, so it is very possible that the Super Bowl hero does not have a roster spot come Week 1. He is currently on the PUP list.
Kolb is the backupThursday 7/24, 9:19 AM CT
Philadelphiaeagles.com reports that Kevin Kolb is officially the team's number two quarterback.

Our View: This is no small matter because starting quarterback, Donovan McNabb is quite injury prone. Kolb's rise up the depth chart gets him that much closer to his ultimate goal - to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. If McNabb goes down. Kolb will likely be available on waivers in your league.
Bennett impresses SmithThursday 7/24, 8:41 AM CT
The Chicago Sun Times tells us that rookie wide receiver Earl Bennett was praised by head coach Lovie Smith after a superb start to training camp.

Our View: Its unclear where Bennett falls on the current depth chart but the wide receiver situation in Chicago is iffy at best. He stands to benefit from Devin Hester's current holdout.
Peterson ready to goThursday 7/24, 8:38 AM CT
The Chicago Sun Times reports that Adrian Peterson is 100% after his June appendectomy. He opened camp as the first-team tailback, but rookie Matt Forte got some time, too.

Our View: Peterson is the incumbent starter in Chicago but faces competition from Forte and newly signed Kevin Jones. AP caught 51 passes last season.
Lorenzen expected to join ColtsThursday 7/24, 8:34 AM CT
The Colts are expected to sign Jared Lorenzen on Thursday.

Our View: With Peyton Manning out for most of training camp, the Colts needed some arms. The Pillsbury Throwboy has a chance of sticking with the team should they choose to carry three quarterbacks.
