Perry scores for BengalsMonday 8/11, 11:43 PM CT
Chris Perry looked extremely sharp on Monday night with 11 carries for 42 yards and a TD for the Bengals. Perry also pulled in two passes in the passing game for nine yards.

Our View: While many assume that Kenny Watson will be the back to target behind Rudi Johnson, there are plenty who see Perry as a potential option this season, especially in PPR formats.
Jackson rushes for game-high 44 yardsMonday 8/11, 11:41 PM CT
With Ryan Grant sitting the game out, Brandon Jackson was the Packers leading rusher on Monday night with six carries for 44 yards.

Our View: Often times preseason numbers are meaningless, but it's clear that Jackson is serious about providing the Packers with something to think about in their backfield rotation.
CJ catches one pass for BengalsMonday 8/11, 11:39 PM CT
Chad Johnson caught one pass for 10 yards in the Bengals game with the Packers on Monday night. The leading receiver for the club was Ben Utecht who caught four passes for 34 yards and a TD.

Our View: Johnson wasn't going to push it tonight coming back off ankle surgery, though he appeared in good spirits and seems to be on track to be close to full health by Week 1.
McAllister participates in contact drillsMonday 8/11, 11:36 PM CT
Deuce McAllister had his first fully live practice on Sunday and reported no issues with his knees, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "Every day I go out there you're able to give a little more explosion, a little more speed, another move you hadn't been able to perform. The rehab process is coming along. The soreness, you just have to fight through it."

Our View: Pierre Thomas might have just as much a chance of picking up carries early in the year as McAllister since we have yet to see Deuce in game action.
Sullivan taking over in San FranciscoMonday 8/11, 11:32 PM CT
J.T. O'Sullivan has gone four straight practices and the first preseason game working with the Niners first team offense, and according to the San Francisco Chronicle he appears "to be taking command of the starting job."

Our View: Can it be that the Niners really will go with the inexperienced signal caller? With each passing day, the chances of it occurring continues to grow. One thing is for sure, Shaun Hill is completely out of the hunt at this point.
Gaffney surging past JacksonMonday 8/11, 8:39 PM CT
Jabar Gaffney has been working out with the Patriots first team offense and appears to have clearly overtaken Chad Jackson as the teams third wide receiver, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: This season is already being called a make or break time for Jackson who has been unable to show his skill set due to injury. With the Patriots massive efforts in the passing game, every spot on the depth chart is vital for receivers.
Edwards could miss preseason gameMonday 8/11, 8:31 PM CT
Braylon Edwards stayed away from his teammates on Monday because of his injured foot, but the team doesn't believe Edwards will be set back due to the injury, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I'm not worried that he won't be back," HC Romeo Crennel said. "They checked him out at the hospital so that they could investigate if there was anything more than a cut, but it's nothing more than a cut.

Our View: Edwards will miss the teams next game against the Giants, but the Browns expect him to be at full strength in plenty of time to do some serious damage to the opposing team once the games count.
Rodgers sharp for PackersMonday 8/11, 8:24 PM CT
Aaron Rodgers was 9-for-15 for 117 yards, a TD and an interception at his time at the helm of the Packers offense on Monday night.

Our View: Rodgers looked great on the night and seemed very composed in the pocket leading the Packers to 10 points. This effort will likely cause his star to rise in fantasy circles.
Robison to return in two weeksMonday 8/11, 7:38 PM CT
Brian Robison believes he should be able to return to the field in two weeks after having surgery last week to repair a varicose vein problem, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Robison figures to spell sack artist Jared Allen in the coming year, and should be fully healthy by the time Week 1 rolls around.
Schable returns to practiceMonday 8/11, 6:50 PM CT
A.J. Schable returned to practice on Monday after receiving a scare in a collision with a Browns player, according to the Associated Press. “I feel a lot better,” he said. “The neck’s just a little stiff, but other than that, it feels pretty good to finally get out here.”

Our View: Schable doesn't figure to offer any fantasy value this season, but that doesn't mean we aren't extremely excited to see him back and playing.

Derek Hagan has supplanted Ernest Wilford and is now being listed with the first team, according to the Palm Beach Post. In fact, Wilford is now being listed behind Ted Ginn as well.

Our View: Hagan has had a wonderful camp and continues to grow in importance with the club while the fortunes of Wilford continue to tumble.
Penington listed atop depth chartMonday 8/11, 6:38 PM CT
Chad Pennington has been listed as the Dolphins starter at quarterback ahead of Josh McCown, John Beck and Chad Henne, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: The report said the reason for the order was "seniority", but common sense tells us all that Pennington will likely open up the season as the team's starter.
Jennings to skip Monday night gameMonday 8/11, 6:34 PM CT
Greg Jennings will sit out the Packers and Bengals game on Monday night because of his injured knee, according to the Milwakee Journal Sentinel. James Jones will start in his place.

Our View: Much like with teammate Ryan Grant, Jennings' injury isn't believed to be serious at this point making this nothing more than a preventative measure.
Grant to miss Monday nightMonday 8/11, 6:32 PM CT
Ryan Grant will not play in the Packers Monday night game against the Bengals because of his hamstring issue, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View: Grant is still being considered day to day, and this most recent injury isn't thought to be anything to serious, so just keep monitoring the situation moving forward.
Shiancoe looking to improveMonday 8/11, 6:29 PM CT
Visanthe Shiancoe is looking forward to putting last years struggles behind him this season in Minnesota, according to the Associated Press. “It was almost like being a rookie again: You have to learn a whole new system, a whole different environment,” said Shiancoe who spent his first four season in New york.

Our View: Shiancoe could improve on last years totals (27 receptions, 323 yards, one TD), but the upside appears to be limited with Tarvaris Jackson under center. At this point, Shiancoe is only worth taking a look at as a backup TE in standard leagues.
Rudi Johnson out on MondayMonday 8/11, 5:52 PM CT
Rudi Johnson will not play on Monday night against the Packers because of his sore hamstring, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Kenny Watson will start in his place.

Our View: Johnson looked great early in camp, but given his struggles with his hamstring last season, his early season issues with that area this season is a big concern.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring strain) will not play for the Bengals on Monday night in the Bengals matchup with the Packers and will be replaced by Antonio Chatman, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: It's no surprise that the team is taking it slow with Houshmandzadeh given that they can't afford for his injury to become a serious condition, which it currently isn't.
Engram will not be placed on PUPMonday 8/11, 5:36 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Bobby Engram cannot be placed on the PUP list since he was injured after camp began which means he will have to take a spot on the team's active roster heading into the season, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: As a result of this situation, the team will likely have to cut either Justin Forsett of David Hawthorne to leave the roster spot open for Engram, even if he can't play the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
Branch might be rushed backMonday 8/11, 5:30 PM CT
Deion Branch (ACL surgery) will need to practice for at least a week with the team before he will be considered for game action, according to the News Tribune.

Devin Thomas returned to practice on Monday after sitting out since the first week of camp because of a hamstring strain, according to ESPN.com.

Brown remains sidelined Monday 8/11, 3:46 PM CT
Reggie Brown remains sidelined by his sore Achilles tendon, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View: He is questionable to play in the August 14 exhibition against Carolina. If healthy, Brown would be a top-30 fantasy receiver this season.
Hill falling out of competition? Monday 8/11, 3:36 PM CT
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat indicates that Shaun Hill has not taken a practice snap during 49ers' camp since August 6. JT O'Sullivan worked with the first-team offense Monday, and was not sharp as he completed 10-of-18 passes with two interceptions. Alex Smith worked with the second-team, and fared even worse as he threw three interceptions over 14 attempts.

Our View: With Hill not participating, it appears it is a two-man race for the starting quarterback job between O'Sullivan and Smith.
Dorsey not expected for ArizonaMonday 8/11, 3:17 PM CT
Glenn Dorsey is likely to miss Saturday's preseason game against Arizona, according to the KC Star.

Our View: He isn't expecting to return from his left knee injury in time to be ready to play Saturday. He participated in individual and position drills Sunday, but remains listed as day-to-day. Coach Herman Edwards noted that the Chiefs have a long way to go before the Week 1 opener against the Patriots, and does not want to rush Dorsey, who was drafted with the fifth-overall pick to improve a run defense that ranked 28th in yards allowed per game in 2007.
Porter battling sore back Monday 8/11, 2:59 PM CT
Joey Porter is battling a sore back, according to the Miami Herald. Coach Tony Sparano hopes Porter will return to practice at some point this week. He initially thought he would be fine, but suffered a flare-up.

Our View: Porter would be a low-level No. 3 linebacker in IDP leagues if healthy, but is a risky prospect right now due to his back ailment.
Mulitalo reclaims starting job Monday 8/11, 2:51 PM CT
Edwin Mulitalo, who returned from the PUP list last week, has reclaimed his job as the starting left guard, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Hasselbeck nursing sore back Monday 8/11, 2:11 PM CT
Matt Hasselbeck sat out practice Monday as he is nursing a sore back, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The ailment is believed to be minor, and fantasy owners should be more concerned with the state of the Seahawks' receiving corps, which is already without Deion Branch, and just lost Bobby Engram for 6-8 weeks.
Tubbs released Monday 8/11, 2:06 PM CT
Marcus Tubbs has been released by the Seahawks, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Tubbs was a first-round pick back in 2004, but he underwent surgery to repair a torn knee ligament suffered last season in an exhibition game, and was released because he failed a physical.
Engram out 6-8 weeks Monday 8/11, 1:57 PM CT
Bobby Engram will miss 6-8 weeks due to a cracked bone in his shoulder, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: Engram was a top-32 fantasy receiver prior to this news. Courtney Taylor moves up the depth chart into Engram's spot, but Ben Obomanu will give him competition. Engram will not be back before Week 3 of the regular season.
Simms update Monday 8/11, 1:25 PM CT
The St. Petersburg Times states that the Bears and Cowboys reportedly had scouts watching Chris Simms during his preseason outing against the Dolphins.

Our View: He fared well as he completed 8-of-10 passes for 60 yards with a 91.7 efficiency rating on his three possessions, and he drove Tampa Bay to one touchdown and one missed field goal. If he continues to perform well he could be traded prior to final cuts. If not, he could be released.

Malcolm Kelly is expected to engage in light jogging this week, according to the Washington Post. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last month.

Our View: There is a chance Kelly will be ready to participate in Week 1 of the regular season, but is missing too much camp time to make an impact.
Hobson struggling Monday 8/11, 12:32 PM CT
Victor Hobson is struggling to pick up the Patriots' defense, namely as he attempts a transition from the outside (with the Jets) to the inside, according to the Boston Herald.

Mayo learning quickly Monday 8/11, 12:29 PM CT
Jerod Mayo is learning the Patriots' defense very quickly, and appears as if he can step in right away and make an impact as a starter on the inside next to Tedy Bruschi, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View: Mayo is worth keeping tabs on, as he could prove to be a strong IDP sleeper if he nails down a starting job, which is rare for rookies under coach Bill Belichick.

Jonathan Goff, who fractured the transverse process in his back, isn't an immediate candidate for the IR and could return for the Giants' last preseason contest, according to the NY Post.

Willis McGahee will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, but coach John Harbaugh is confident he will be ready for Week 1, according to the Baltimore Sun. Harbaugh said, "We were confident without the scope that he would have been ready. We just feel like this is a cautionary procedure and we want to make sure we're right."

Our View: McGahee ranked as a top-15 fantasy running back, and could provide solid value if he slips in the draft. If you do draft McGahee, just be sure to "handcuff" rookie Ray Rice for insurance.
Green released Monday 8/11, 12:04 PM CT
Justin Green has been released by the Ravens, according to the Baltimore Sun. Coach John Harbaugh said, "I think he'll get picked up very quickly. If he doesn't, he still could possibly be in our plans."

Jerry Porter is recovering from hamstring surgery, but believes he will be ready to play in one of the Jaguars' last two preseason games, according to Sports Illustrated. He said, "I'm amazed how good it feels. I've had a bad hamstring pull before, and I feel much better having the surgery than just letting it heal on its own."

Our View: Prior to getting hurt, Porter was competing for the No. 1 role at receiver. He also had potential to be a top-25 fantasy receiver, and could prove to be a late-round steal if he manages to return in the preseason.
Williams has become major player Monday 8/11, 9:39 AM CT
According to the Rock Hill Herald, offensive coodinator Jeff Davidson stated that DeAngelo Williams has become a major player in the Panthers' offense. Davidson also mentioned that he has grown up.

Williams could be headed for a breakout campaign, even with rookie Jon Stewart in the plans to share the workload.

Our View: He has a lot of work ahead of him as he tries to nail down the slot role in the Lions' aerial attack. Mike Furrey and Kenneth Moore are his top competition for the job. Coach Mike Tomlin said, "He's been a franchise quarterback for a playoff caliber team. We're fortunate to add a guy like him. He had a great workout. He has a strong arm, he's very lean and he's a smart guy, a been-there, done-that guy."

Our View: The team hopes he can learn enough of the offense to play in Thursday's exhibition game against the Bills. Leftwich is expected to serve as the primary backup behind starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Nolan comments on quarterbacks Monday 8/11, 7:33 AM CT
Coach Mike Nolan will not set his quarterback rotation for Saturday's game against Green Bay for a few more days and is open to adding another player to compete at the position, according to the SF Chronicle. Nolan said, "The door is open to any player we feel makes us better. But there is no one out there at this time that we feel strongly about."

He registered a team-high 39 receiving yards in Friday's preseason outing against the 49ers and coach Lane Kiffin said, "He's really pushing to make this team. You can't ask much more out of him right now for what he does. He keeps making plays." He has also performed well on special teams, which will help his chances to make the club.

Our View: Javon Walker, Ronald Curry, and Drew Carter are all locks to make the team, and Johnnie Lee Higgins is also likely safe. That will leave Watkins to fight with rookies Arman Shields and Chaz Schilens for the final roster spots at receiver. If Watkins does make the team, he would not see the field enough to make him fantasy worthy.
Reis performing well Monday 8/11, 7:04 AM CT
Chris Reis has been performing well in training camp, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He has been consistent on defense, and on several first-string special teams units. He hauled in a tough interception in practice Sunday.
