Horn aggravates hamstringSaturday 8/16, 11:57 PM CT
Wide receiver Joe Horn did not play in Saturday's preseason game because he aggravated his right hamstring during warm-ups, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes.

Our View: Seriously? We're shocked to find out that Horn even had the intention of playing. He is buried on fantasy charts until the Falcons find a trade partner to take him away.
O'Sullivan plays to mixed reviewsSaturday 8/16, 11:42 PM CT
Quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan failed to impress in his start against the Packers on Saturday. He completed 8-of-17 passes for 154 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. O'Sullivan did connect on a few nice throws, including a 59-yard touchdown to Josh Morgan, and lead the 49ers to two scores.

Our View: The truly good news for J.T. is that Alex Smith made the starter look sharp by stinking in the second half. O'Sullivan is still in the driver's seat, but he needs to start making better decisions in these preseason games.
Forsett runs wildSaturday 8/16, 11:36 PM CT
Running back Justin Forsett starred in the preseason win over the Bears on Saturday. He rushed 15 times for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Our View: We know that the Seahawks will keep Julius Jones, Maurice Morris, and Leonard Weaver, and the smallish Forsett may need to beat out T.J. Duckett if he hopes to win a roster spot. The rookie's efforts through two preseason games have helped his quest.
Different year, same storySaturday 8/16, 11:34 PM CT
It's only the preseason, but it appears as though the Bears are operating as usual. They scored 26 points against the Seahawks thanks to a blocked punt for a safety, a punt return for a touchdown, and an interception return a touchdown.

Our View: The Bears offense stunk on Saturday, but they took the Seahawks to overtime. It looks like fantasy owners may be able to count on the Bears defense and special teams for big plays again this year.
Coutu nails five field goalsSaturday 8/16, 11:29 PM CT
Kicker Brandon Coutu made a strong case for a starting job on Saturday night. He made all five of his field goal attempts against the Bears, including a game-winning 36-yard shot in overtime. Two of the rookie's kicks came from beyond 45 yards (46, 48).

Our View: Coutu is battling veteran Olindo Mare for the starting job, and the youngster likely closed any gap with his effort on Saturday. There's a potential for decent fantasy value if one guy can seize the job.
Boley leaves with sore backSaturday 8/16, 11:25 PM CT
Linebacker Michael Boley injured his back in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Colts. He did not return, the AP reports.

Our View: Boley has decent value in IDP leagues, and fantasy players in those formats will want to check back for an update on his status.
Hall gets short touchdownSaturday 8/16, 11:16 PM CT
Running back Andre Hall rushed seven times for 24 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Cowboys. Most notably, Hall worked in with the first-string offense and got the call over Selvin Young at the one-yard line.

Our View: Young is the clear-cut starter, but Mike Shanahan might end up using his running backs on whatever whim the veteran coach chooses. Hall appears to be the top backup and is worth a late-round handcuff.
Cutler carves up the CowboysSaturday 8/16, 11:10 PM CT
Quarterback Jay Cutler had no problems with the Cowboys defense in Saturday's preseason game. He completed 16-of-20 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown.

Our View: Cutler is now 24-for-30 this preseason, and it looks like he's ready for the real deal. Our only worry is that he'll struggle early in the year without Brandon Marshall. Otherwise, Cutler is showing all the makings of a No. 1 fantasy passer.
Hester rushes for 59 yardsSaturday 8/16, 11:06 PM CT
Running back Jacob Hester rushed 12 times for 59 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Rams.

Our View: It was a second straight decent showing for Hester, who is aiming to fill Michael Turner's old shoes. Hester is strictly handcuff material in fantasy leagues.
Leonard strains shoulderSaturday 8/16, 11:04 PM CT
Fullback Brian Leonard strained his left shoulder during the second half of Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, the AP reports.

Our View: If this injury is at all serious, it would further solidify Antonio Pittman's spot as Steven Jackson's primary backup.
Sproles injures kneeSaturday 8/16, 11:03 PM CT
Running back Darren Sproles clutched his right knee after fair-catching a punt on Saturday night. He limped off under his own power, NFL.com notes.

Our View: We don't know at this point if the injury is serious or not. We'll update Sproles's status when more info becomes available.
McAllister returns to actionSaturday 8/16, 10:50 PM CT
Running back Deuce McAllister rushed four times for 16 yards and caught two passes for 10 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Texans. It was his first action since Week 3 of the 2007 season. McAllister is coming off serious surgeries to both knees. "I’m happy with the way this first game—this first chance to play— went," he tells the AP. "I felt like I played average at best, but it’s a start, and you have to start somewhere."

Our View: One game doesn't erase all our questions, but it's a good step in the right direction. Deuce potentially gives the Saints the between-the-tackles force that Reggie Bush can't provide. Deuce will remain low on draft boards until he puts in another good preseason showing (or two).
LJ rushes 14 timesSaturday 8/16, 10:44 PM CT
Larry Johnson rushed 14 times for 61 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Cardinals.

Our View: It doesn't look like Herm Edwards has any intention of lightening LJ's load this year, although Kolby Smith did see some third-down work during Johnson's drives.
Hightower scores againSaturday 8/16, 10:41 PM CT
Rookie running back Tim Hightower rushed nine times for 28 yards and a touchdown on Saturday night. His four-yard scoring scamper capped off the team's second drive.

Our View: That's two scores in as many preseason games for Hightower, and it's also the second time he was brought in to cap off a drive he didn't start. Fantasy owners may need to start taking him more seriously as a goal line threat and backup to Edgerrin James.
Williams runs well, scoresSaturday 8/16, 10:37 PM CT
Ricky Williams rushed 10 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars.

Our View: Williams continues to climb up the fantasy rankings, and this effort will only help the ascension.
Slaton leads ground attackSaturday 8/16, 10:33 PM CT
For a second straight preseason game, rookie running back Steve Slaton led the Texans in rushing. He carried the ball 13 times for 57 yards and a touchdown against the Saints.

Our View: Slaton is getting ample work in these early games, and he is trying to take advantage. He is too small to be a workhorse, but the Texans might find a way to give the speedster a Leon Washington-like role.
Brees effective against TexansSaturday 8/16, 10:31 PM CT
Drew Brees completed 12-of-17 passes for 147 yards and two scores in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans.

Our View: Yep, it looks like Drew is ready for the regular campaign.
Schaub sharp against SaintsSaturday 8/16, 10:29 PM CT
Matt Schaub torched the Saints secondary in the second round of preseason games. He completed 14-of-16 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. One of his incompletions was a drop by Andre Davis.

Our View: Schaub did his best to show-up Drew Brees, who was nearly as efficient. We continue to like Schaub as a solid No. 2 fantasy quarterback
Carpenter nails four field goalsSaturday 8/16, 10:26 PM CT
Kicker Dan Carpenter is out to prove that the Dolphins made a good move by releasing Jay Feely. He nailed four field goals in Saturday's preseason game, including shots from 31, 37, 44 and 46 yards.

Our View: That's two straight quality showings for Carpenter. No self-respecting fantasy owner should draft him, but you should at least know the name.
Smith fails to seize jobSaturday 8/16, 10:23 PM CT
Quarterback Troy Smith failed to impress in his start against the Vikings on Saturday. He completed 3-of-5 passes for 25 yards and an interception. Smith added 35 yards on three rushing attempts.

Our View: The only good news is that Kyle Boller didn't turn any heads with his boring outing. The quarterback competition appears to be as wide-open as ever.
Rice rushes for 77 yardsSaturday 8/16, 10:20 PM CT
Running back Ray Rice was the lone bright spot for the Ravens offense on Saturday night. He rushed eight times for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Vikings. Rice added three catches for 17 yards.

Our View: The rookie has been receiving excellent reports in camp, and he is taking advantage of Willis McGahee's absence. Rice isn't a threat to take McGahee's job, but the Ravens might need to find this rookie some regular touches.
Turner shows off his speedSaturday 8/16, 10:15 PM CT
Running back Michael Turner showed off his wheels on Saturday night. He rushed four times for 113 yards in the preseason loss to the Colts. Turner's night included gains of 52 and 63 yards.

Our View: Unfortunately, the rest of the Falcons offense looked like junk. We like what the Burner showed off on Saturday, but he may find fewer lanes if the passing game doesn't offer more support.
Clark injures right kneeSaturday 8/16, 9:11 PM CT
Tight end Desmond Clark injured his right knee during the Bears second possession in Saturday's preseason game in Seattle, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. He moved to the sidelines and began icing the joint.

Our View: We'll be on the lookout for updates about Clark's status. He barely useful in fantasy leagues, but he is a key part of the Bears offense. They would miss his run blocking and ability to move the chains.
Bulger fine after hitSaturday 8/16, 9:09 PM CT
Quarterback Marc Bulger took a hard shot near the end of the first half on Saturday's preseason game. He was taken out of the game, but the Rams say he is not injured, the Canadian Press reports.

Our View: Unfortunately, the hit can't explain why Bulger didn't look very good against the Chargers. He tossed a pair of picks and completed 7-of-14 passes for 56 yards. Bulger was also shaky in the first preseason game. It's a good thing these performances don't count.
Ratliff sharp againSaturday 8/16, 9:04 PM CT
Brett Ratliff was solid again in the Jets second preseason game. He completed 13-of-19 passes for 148 yards, no scores, and no interceptions. Ratliff led the Jets to one field goal make, and Mike Nugent shanked a 23-yard attempt on another drive.

Our View: Brett Favre is obviously the starter for the Jets, but Ratliff is making a case to surpass Kellen Clemens for the No. 2 job.
Cartwright leads strong ground gameSaturday 8/16, 9:02 PM CT
Rock Cartwright led a potent Redskins rushing attack in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets. He ran six times for 90 yards, including a 73-yard scamper. As a whole, the Redskins rushed 22 times for 181 yards.

Our View: Through three preseason games, the Redskins have rushed 84 times for 494 yards. That works out to a 5.9 yards-per-carry average. Yes, it's just the preseason, but those results suggest good things for Clinton Portis in Jim Zorn's first season.
Brown wrapped in castSaturday 8/16, 8:45 PM CT
Running back Ronnie Brown initially wrapped his injured right thumb in ice on Saturday night, but he eventually donned what appeared to be a hard cast, the Palm Beach Post reports. The paper notes that Brown doesn't appear to be too concerned about the injury.

Our View: We expect the Dolphins to provide much more information in the coming day or two. Ricky Williams' value would jump up if Brown's thumb injury proved to be more serious than these early reports suggest.
Jackson has bruised kneeSaturday 8/16, 8:41 PM CT
The early word on quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is promising. "He’s fine," head coach Brad Childress informs the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "He’s got a bump on the knee. We’re keeping him in at half to get some ice on it. He’s got a contusion." Jackson injured his right knee during the second drive of Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens.

Our View: Jackson has struggled to avoid injuries in his brief career, but it sounds like he dodged anything serious this time around.
Gay leaves with hand injurySaturday 8/16, 8:21 PM CT
Cornerback Randall Gay injured his right arm during Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Our View: The Saints have a suspect and thin defensive backfield even when Gay is healthy. They'll be in trouble if this injury is serious.
Harris to sit on SaturdaySaturday 8/16, 8:06 PM CT
Defensive tackle Tommie Harris will miss Saturday's preseason tilt against the Seahawks because he is "sore," a team spokesman told the Chicago Sun-Times. The Bears don't want him wearing down his body on the artificial surface. Harris has been seen wearing a brace on his surgically repaired left knee.

Our View: The Bears have no reason to push Harris through much preseason action. He is one of the game's best defensive tackles and needs to save his body for the real action.
Brown injures thumbSaturday 8/16, 7:51 PM CT
Running back Ronnie Brown injured his thumb during the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars. The team said his return was questionable, the Canadian Press reports. Brown rushed twice for two yards and caught one pass.

Our View: We'll be digging for more information on this injury and update Brown's status when more is known.
Pennington efficient in debutSaturday 8/16, 7:46 PM CT
Chad Pennington made his debut with the Dolphins on Saturday night and completed 5-of-6 passes for 55 yards over three drives. The Dolphins scored a touchdown on the second possession and a field goal on their third drive. Pennington also rushed twice for 18 yards.

Our View: That's the efficient Pennington that the Dolphins are probably hoping to see all season. He isn't dynamic, but it's tough to argue with 10 points over three drives. It was nice to see Chad hit Ted Ginn twice for 39 yards.
Jackson takes shot to kneeSaturday 8/16, 7:41 PM CT
Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson injured his right knee during the second drive of the preseason game on Saturday. He stayed in the game despite his limp and was eventually helped to the bench, the Minneapolis Star Tribune notes. Jackson remained on the sidelines with ice on his knee. Gus Frerotte took his place.

Our View: The Vikings likely wouldn't let T-Jack hang around on the sidelines if they thought this was serious. We'll let you know when more information is available.
Thomas suffers knee strainSaturday 8/16, 7:27 PM CT
Right guard Randy Thomas strained his right knee during Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, the Washington Times reports.

Our View: The Redskins need Thomas to stay healthy and help hold down the right side of the line. He played only three games in 2007 (biceps), and the offense missed him. Hopefully this knee ailment is as minor as it sounds.
Betts injures kneeSaturday 8/16, 7:24 PM CT
Running back Ladell Betts suffered a mild right knee sprain during Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, the Washington Times notes.

Our View: Hopefully the "mild" part of this diagnosis holds up. Betts is quality backup to Clinton Portis and a good handcuff in fantasy leagues.
Abiamiri hoping to play in 2008Saturday 8/16, 7:22 PM CT
Defensive end Victor Abiamiri hasn't ruled out playing in 2008, and the Eagles continue to keep him off the injured reserve, the team's official web site notes. Abiamiri suffered a serious right wrist injury in late July and needed surgery. The worst-case scenario called for a four-month recovery. "Things have gotten progressively a lot better since the first day it happened and after surgery," Abiamiri says. "It's kind of a week-to-week, day-to-day kind of progression. It's an injury where it takes a little bit of time to heal, but it's not a season-ending injury."

Our View: The Eagles had planned for Abiamiri to play a significant role as part of a rotation at left end. Juqua Parker and Chris Clemons are now holding down that spot. Abiamiri could still end up on IR before the season starts.
Favre throws touchdown in debutSaturday 8/16, 7:15 PM CT
Brett Favre played the first two drives for the Jets on Saturday against the Redskins. He completed 5-of-6 passes for 48 yards and tossed a touchdown to tight end Dustin Keller.

Our View: It was an efficient opening performance for Favre, who hit four different receivers in his short time. This brief performance won't affect his fantasy value. We'll be more interesting to see how Favre looks when he gets to play a couple quarters in a row.
Fisher defends YoungSaturday 8/16, 7:02 PM CT
Quarterback Vince Young has not looked good through two preseason games (7-for-19, no touchdowns), but his coach isn't worried. "He was very good at where to go and through his progressions. That was not a problem. He was sharp," head coach Jeff Fisher tells the AP. "The completions, the incomplete passes and things, you look at the numbers and say he struggled. There’s reasons for things that happened each play. He did misfire on a couple of them. He had people in his face in a couple plays; he couldn’t step up." Fisher adds that Young was hindered by a basic game plan.

Our View: The Titans have a new coordinator and are working in some new weapons like Alge Crumpler, Justin McCareins, and Chris Johnson. Yeah, we'd like to see Young look a lot better, but we're not going to panic after two meaningless contests. Vince remains a low-end No. 2 fantasy quarterback.
Runnels addedSaturday 8/16, 6:16 PM CT
The Bucs added fullback J.D. Runnels on Saturday, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

Our View: We don't expect Runnels to give B.J. Askew a fight for the starting job, and J.D. is a good bet to be cut in the coming weeks.
Petitgout releasedSaturday 8/16, 6:12 PM CT
The Bucs released left tackle Luke Petitgout on Saturday, the Tampa Tribune confirms. Petitgout was on the PUP list as he recovered from surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Our View: The Bucs will stick with Donald Penn at left tackle. He started 12 games after Petitgout injured his knee last year. We still like the look of the Bucs starting line, but we now worry a bit about the depth at the left tackle spot.
Rogers will play on SaturdaySaturday 8/16, 6:03 PM CT
Cornerback Carlos Rogers will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, the Washington Post confirms. He will not start.

Our View: We remain shocked by his recovery. Rogers underwent surgery last November to repair a torn ACL and MCL, and we fully expected him to open 2008 on the PUP list. The Redskins have to be very pleased.
Polamalu to practice TuesdaySaturday 8/16, 6:01 PM CT
Safety Troy Polamalu is expected to come off the PUP list and practice on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. He has missed all of training camp due to a hamstring injury.

Our View: Polamalu is a key player in what should be a solid fantasy defense, and the safety is also a factor in IDP leagues. It will be nice to see him back on the field.
Randle El out on SaturdaySaturday 8/16, 5:57 PM CT
Wide receiver Antwaan Randle El will not play in Saturday's preseason game due to a sore hamstring and personal reasons, the Washington Post notes. James Thrash will start in his place.

Our View: Luckily for Antwaan, the Redskins top two rookies (Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas) haven't made a hard push for his job in camp. Randle El remains the starter despite this missed action.
Brady to miss Bucs gameSaturday 8/16, 5:18 PM CT
Tom Brady has not made the trip to Tampa and will miss the second preseason game on Sunday due to a sore foot, the Boston Globe reports. The report says it is not known which foot is problematic.

Our View: Brady could have his foot cut off, and Bill Belichick would find a way to cover up the procedure. We're assuming this foot injury is minor, and Brady's fantasy value remains very high.
Wilson to start on MondaySaturday 8/16, 5:09 PM CT
Travis Wilson will start on Monday night in place of Braylon Edwards, the Akron Beacon Journal confirms. The Browns visit the Giants in the second round of preseason action.

Our View: Wilson, a third-year wideout, is trying to secure the No. 3 job left vacant by Joe Jurevicius. Travis has almost no fantasy value, but he has had a solid offseason and camp.
Lucas returns to practiceSaturday 8/16, 4:11 PM CT
Cornerback Ken Lucas returned to practice on Saturday, the AP reports. It was his first session since August 1, when teammate Steve Smith broke the defensive back's nose.

Our View: The Panthers should be happy to have the starter back, and the fight will stop being an issue, at least until Week 1 when Smith will be out.
Griese to make startSaturday 8/16, 2:55 PM CT
Brian Griese will make the start for Tampa Bay when they take on New England during preseason action on Sunday, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Griese is fighting with Luke McCown to be the backup to Jeff Garcia for the Buccaneers. As such, he has no fantasy value.
Smith practices against LucasSaturday 8/16, 2:07 PM CT
Wide out Steve Smith and cornerback Ken Lucas squared off in practice against each other on Saturday for the first time since Smith punched Lucas, breaking his nose, according to the AP.

Our View: Everything went well, but the fact remains that Lucas is still recovering from his busted nose, and Smith remains suspended for the season's first two games.
Kasper to miss gameSaturday 8/16, 1:38 PM CT
Browns wide out Kevin Kasper will miss the team's preseason game Monday against the Giants with continuing hamstring trouble, according to Scout.com.

Our View: In less than a month, Kasper has gone from potential third receiver to fighting for a roster spot. His fantasy value has plummeted during that time, and it wasn't real high to begin with, making him a non-factor.
KGB still having knee issuesSaturday 8/16, 12:56 PM CT
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila underwent surgery on his right knee in May, but he is still experiencing soreness and has been a limited participant in training camp for the Packers, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Gbaja-Biamila had 9.5 sacks last season before injuring the knee. He is an important part of the Packers defense, so the team is concerned that he is still having issues.
Andrews returns to practiceSaturday 8/16, 12:50 PM CT
Eagles right guard Shawn Andrews took part in practice for the first time Saturday after missing most of camp while dealing with depression, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com.

Our View: Andrews is still getting caught up, but hopefully he will be back soon, helping fantasy owners by opening holes for Brian Westbrook and pass protecting for Donovan McNabb.
Johnson will play big role in offenseSaturday 8/16, 12:46 PM CT
Chris Johnson, the Titans first-round pick in the NFL draft, will be featured prominently in the team's offense because his speed creates mismatches, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: There is even some speculation that Johnson will eventually become the starter sometime later on this season. He certainly has fantasy value, but LenDale White will still probably see more carries than Johnson, and Johnson's performances are likely going to be inconsistent because he may hit for a big play one week then go two or three more before doing it again.
Miller likely to startSaturday 8/16, 12:41 PM CT
The likely starter opposite Darrelle Revis at cornerback for the Jets is Justin Miller, who has been impressive at training camp, according to Pro Football Weekly. Miller missed most of last season with a knee injury.

Our View: Though Miller has never intercepted a pass during his two-plus seasons, he did have a solid year in 2006, with 53 tackles and six pass break-ups.
Peters losing leverageSaturday 8/16, 12:38 PM CT
Much like the St. Louis Rams, the Buffalo Bills are steadfast in their negotiation tactics, saying they will not negotiate with tackle Jason Peters until he reports to camp. And he is currently losing his leverage because of the solid line play Buffalo has gotten in his absence, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Not ironically, Peters and the Rams Steven Jackson share the same agent, Eugene Parker, who may be best served by giving his clients a new approach to negotiations.
Clemons strugglingSaturday 8/16, 12:05 PM CT
Chris Clemons is having a difficult time making a positive impact in Eagles camp after coming over as a free agent, according to Pro Football Weekly. So far he hasn't grasped the defense and is getting beaten regularly.

Our View: The Eagles signed Clemons to get to the QB, but his slow start has relegated him to back-up duty for now.
Favre will see 8-12 snapsSaturday 8/16, 11:59 AM CT
Quarterback Brett Favre will only play 8-12 snaps during the New York Jets preseason game against the Redskins, according to the AP.

Our View: Favre has had limited practice time, so his knowledge of the offense is not to the point where he can play much. Rest assured, he'll figure it out and be okay for fantasy owners to play during Week 1.
Arraignment delayed for GrantSaturday 8/16, 11:52 AM CT
The arraignment for Saints defensive end Charles Grant on a charge of involuntary manslaughter has been postponed, according to ProFootballTalk.com. The decision is still being made whether or not to try all eight defendants together or separately.

Our View: Grant and individuals he was with got into a fight where a pregnant woman was shot, killing her and the child. Grant was stabbed in the neck during the melee.
Steelers sign VickersSaturday 8/16, 11:43 AM CT
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Lee Vickers, who was earlier released by the Ravens, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Vickers played in two games, catching two passes for four yards last season and is inconsequential in fantasy leagues.
Culberson, Lowry finedSaturday 8/16, 10:44 AM CT
Rams linebacker Quinton Culberson and Titans safety Calvin Lowry were each fined $7,500 for making horse collar tackles during the two team's exhibition contest last Saturday, according to The Tennessean.

Our View: Culberson horse-collared Alge Crumpler, while Lowry got Rams receiver Dane Looker. Only Lowry was flagged for a penalty.
Bulluck updateSaturday 8/16, 10:42 AM CT
Titans Pro Bowl linebacker Keith Bulluck was thought to have suffered from a left calf strain during Friday night's preseason game against Oakland, but it was only a cramp, Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher told The Tennessean.

Our View: Bulluck is one of the best linebackers in football, and certainly someone to target in IDP leagues. He had 88 tackles and five interceptions last season.
Nelson not seeing fieldSaturday 8/16, 10:36 AM CT
Green Bay's second-round selection, wide receiver Jordy Nelson, is going to have trouble seeing playing time, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. It isn't because Nelson is struggling, but because there are four wide outs in front of him that deserve to play.

Our View: Greg Jennings, James Jones, Donald Driver and Ruvell Martin are all ahead of Nelson at this point. Don't consider him an option for your fantasy team unless he can move his way up the depth chart a bit.
Brown outSaturday 8/16, 10:17 AM CT
Wide receiver Reggie Brown had an MRI performed on the hamstring injury that made him leave the game on Thursday, and it was determined that it was simply a strain, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com.

Our View: Brown will miss practice on Saturday, and there is no timetable for his return. He is a solid No. 3 receiver, and could be a No. 2 should things fall into place.
Incognito at guardSaturday 8/16, 9:46 AM CT
Richie Incognito will be the starter for the Rams at right guard, after shifting there from center early in training camp, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Incognito has good physical skills and a nasty streak. He can be a top quality guard, but only if he keeps his emotions in check, as he is prone to getting personal fouls for taking things too far from time to time.
Portis will sitSaturday 8/16, 9:03 AM CT
Redskins running back Clinton Portis will not play in the team's preseason game against the Jets, according to Sporting News Today. He has conceded it is Brett Favre's night, and did not sound too upset about getting the rest, saying, "I'm not crushed."

Our View: Portis will watch from the sidelines, which is just fine with fantasy owners who do not want to see their high-round pick get injured.
Tynes back soonSaturday 8/16, 8:52 AM CT
Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes has missed practice lately due to an injured plant leg, but he should be back sometime this week, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View: Those of you who drafted Tynes - in the final round, hopefully - need not be worried. He will be fine, and ready to contribute.
Rivers to sit preseason gameSaturday 8/16, 8:44 AM CT
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers will probably sit out tonight's preseason game against the St. Louis Rams, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View: No injury or anything for fantasy owners to be concerned about, as the team is simply resting their franchise QB. Rivers is coming off ACL surgery, so they are content with him getting his work during practice.
Jackson must end holdout for negotiations to startSaturday 8/16, 8:16 AM CT
The St. Louis Rams maintain that they are not going to negotiate with running back Steven Jackson as long as he remains a holdout, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Neither the team or Jackson seems willing to budge on their positions. At this point, nothing is getting done, so sometime in the near future someone will break. Fantasy owners can only hope it's soon enough that their top-ten selection can be ready for Week 1.
Holt may sitSaturday 8/16, 8:09 AM CT
Rams receiver Torry Holt may sit out Saturday's preseason contest against San Diego due to tightness in his back, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Fantasy owners need not worry about the consistent Holt, as the injury is nothing serious and he figures to have another solid season.
Porter to resume practiceSaturday 8/16, 7:59 AM CT
Wide receivers Jerry Porter and Reggie Williams are slated to return to practice sometime during the next week, according to Sporting News Today. However, the duo may not participate in any preseason games just to be sure they do not aggravate their injuries.

Our View: Porter had six touchdown catches and Williams had 10. Porter, especially, makes for a good back-up at receiver for fantasy squads, assuming he is completely healthy. Williams is a bit of a wild card, because though his TD total was impressive, it came with only 38 total receptions.
Broncos want to keep WilliamsSaturday 8/16, 7:50 AM CT
The Denver Broncos plan on attempting to work out a contract extension with linebacker D.J. Williams, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View: Williams is a top-flight linebacker, and he made 141 tackles last year. He is clearly someone to target in IDP leagues.
Harrison's job in jeopardySaturday 8/16, 7:46 AM CT
Browns running back Jerome Harrison may not make the team's final roster because he is not a quality performer on special teams, according to Sporting News Today. It seems Browns head coach Romeo Crennel might prefer to keep fullback Charles Ali instead.

Our View: If you're a back-up in the NFL, being a special teams performer is usually part of the job description. Harrison might be saved because his team's general manager, Phil Savage, apparently wants to keep him on the team due to his speed.
Rivers making playsSaturday 8/16, 7:42 AM CT
Cincinnati linebacker Keith Rivers led the team with seven tackles in the team's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, and is in line to get a starting job, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View: It was no secret that Rivers was going to be a starter for the Bengals as soon as he could pick up the defense. The team desperately needs him to be a playmaker to help shore up their suspect defense.
