Darnell Stapleton solidified his hold on the starting job at right guard with his play in the Steelers' 26-21 win over the Jaguars. Head coach Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "He really did well. We'll continue to move forward with him in that spot."

Our View: It has been a rough start for Hasselbeck in 2008. He has only thrown two touchdown passes to go along with four interceptions. The number that is really disturbing is the 49 percent completion percentage.
Frerotte okTuesday 10/7, 9:48 PM CT
Gus Frerotte took a beating in the Vikings Monday night game against the Saints and on Tuesday the veteran said he was feeling fine. Frerotte told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "I was just dizzy. Some birds flying around my head."

Our View: Even though Frerotte's number are not worth much of a fantasy look, he is doing a good job leading the Vikings offense.

The Packers did not make the decision on Aaron Rodgers playing status until about an hour before the game in Week 5. This week the Packers have said that Rodgers will miss some practice time but is expected to play in Week 6, according to the AP.

Our View: Even with a bum shoulder Rodgers performed well in Week 5. In the Packers loss to the Falcons the quarterback threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns. Even though Rodgers will miss some practice time this week you can expect him to perform well again.

Gramatica under fireTuesday 10/7, 8:42 PM CT
In Monday night's loss to the Vikings, Martin Gramatica missed a possible game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter. On Tuesday, head coach Sean Payton told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "I don't think we're in a position where we're going to bring in kickers for tryouts, because we've got a pretty good idea of who's available. I'm not sure if Martin is 100-percent healthy right now, let alone whether he's my guy. So we'll see."

Our View: The quotes from Payton are not exactly a vote of confidence for the kicker. Gramatica has missed on 4-of-10 attempts this year and if he misses many more chances he might be looking for a job.
Walker has sprainTuesday 10/7, 8:35 PM CT
The MRI results for Mike Walker have come in and their is good news. Walker told the Orlando Sentinel that the MRI showed just a sprain. "I'm shooting for Sunday, hopefully it'll get ready over the next couple of days."

Dane Looker hasn't yet been cleared to play in Week 6 after he suffered a concussion in Week 4, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Our View: With Looker not yet ready for game action, the Rams re-signed Eddie Kennison. It is still possible that Looker could be ready for Week 6 but the team might not know until late in the week.
Kennison signedTuesday 10/7, 7:14 PM CT
Eddie Kennison was not without a job for long. Just hours after he was released by the Rams, he was signed by...the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. The Rams got new injury information on receiver Dane Looker, who might not be ready for Week 6, so they needed more depth at receiver.

Our View: In two games with the Rams Kennison has not caught a pass and you wouldn't expect that to change much now that he is back on the roster.
Chambers likely out for Week 6Tuesday 10/7, 7:09 PM CT
The San Diego Tribune is reporting that Chris Chambers will likely be out for the Chargers Week 6 game due to an injured ankle.

Harrison finedTuesday 10/7, 6:56 PM CT
James Harrison was fined $20,000 on Tuesday for criticizing an officials call in the Steelers win over the Jaguars, according to FOXSports.com. "Ridiculous call," Harrison said of the penalty. "You don't make a call like that. Unless (the official) might have money on it."

Broncos rookie running back Ryan Torain is set to get back on the practice field this week, according to the Denver post. Head coach Mike Shanahan said Monday that Torain wouldn't play until after the bye week, which would put his debut at early November.

Our View: The Broncos have a trio of running backs already on their roster and when you add Torain into the mix, it will be a interesting to see how Shanahan will divvy up the carries.
Feely still kickerTuesday 10/7, 6:20 PM CT
Jets head coach Eric Mangini announced that Jay Feely will once again be the Jets kicker in Week 6, according to CBSSportsline.com.

Our View: Mike Nugent continues to struggle with a hip injury and will be out again this week. Feely has filled in nicely connecting on 4-of-6 field goal attempts and is perfect on extra points.

After Terrell Owens scored on a 57 yard touchdown reception against the Bengals, he was seen on the Cowboys sideline crying. No, he was not crying because that catch was his only one of two in the game. Owens was playing in Week 5 with a heavy heart after a family member had passed away, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View: Even though TO has seen his catches go down, his touchdowns continue to grow. Ownens has visited the end zone in everyone of the Cowboys game but one.

Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler has squashed rumors that the injury he suffered in Week 5 was a sports hernia, according to the AP.

Our View: It is not known how long Scheffler will be out but he has said that he will miss Week 6 versus the Jaguars. Nate Jackson will start in his place in Week 6.
Porter is on fireTuesday 10/7, 5:42 PM CT
Joey Porter has recorded six sacks in four games this season, which is more than the 5.5 sacks he had in 16 games last season, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View: It has been a great start to the 2008 season for both Porter and the whole Dolphin team. With the win against the Chargers in Week 5 the Dolphins have already doubled their win total from 2007.
White releasedTuesday 10/7, 5:14 PM CT

"Right now, I'm just taking it day by day and everything's been pretty good," Parrish said. "This bye week is helping me out a lot, so that's a good thing right there."

Our View: This week the Bills have their bye and this will help give Parrish more time to recover and get back in the lineup. The receiver does not hold any fantasy value when he returns to the field.
Kennison releasedTuesday 10/7, 4:25 PM CT
St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat reporter Jim Thomas is reporting on Team 1380 radio in St. Louis that the Rams have released wideout Eddie Kennison and will promote Derek Stanley from the practice squad to replace him. Kennison was signed last month after Rams' receiver Drew Bennett was injured in the season-opener.

Our View: Kennison had appeared in two games but had not caught a pass yet this season. This could signal the end of the 35-year-old's career. Stanley is unlikely to hold any fantasy value.
Williams drawing interestTuesday 10/7, 4:24 PM CT
Roy Williams has plenty of things to say about his teammates and team's play this year and now with the trade deadline nearing the 49ers are said to have interest in the receiver, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View: With Williams' ex-offensive coordinator, Mike Martz, at the steering wheel of the 49ers offense it would be a good fit for both the receiver and the team.

The NFL trade deadline is nearing and there have been grumblings that the San Francisco 49ers may have interest in T.J. Houshmandzadeh, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View: The 49ers are looking to upgrade the receiver position opposite veteran Isaac Bruce and are expected to do so by the trading deadline. The acquisition of Houshmandzadeh would provide the team with more firepower in the passing game.
Walker may have torn MCLTuesday 10/7, 4:08 PM CT
Mike Walker had his best game as a professional on Sunday night but that was the good news. The bad news was that head coach Jack Del Rio told the Orlando Sentinal that Walker may have tore his MCL.

Our View: Walker and the Jaguars will find out for sure the extent of the injury when the MRI results become available. The second year receiver caught six passes for 107 yards against the Steelers in Week 5.
Stover missing from long rangeTuesday 10/7, 3:25 PM CT
Ravens kicker Matt Stover has not made a kick longer than 38 yards this season, and is 4-for-7 overall, according to BaltimoreRavens.com.

Our View: Despite that, the team claims they still have confidence in the veteran, and that he will get things figured out. They better hope so, because Baltimore is not exactly the epicenter of offense, and need Stover's leg to get points.
Al Davis violates league rulesTuesday 10/7, 3:09 PM CT
Raiders owner Al Davis violated league rules by saying that the New England Patriots tampered with receiver Randy Moss, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The league sent Davis a letter stating that he made false accusations. This isn't the first time Davis and the NFL have butted heads, and it's unlikely to be the last.
Bucs interested in Holt, Gonzalez?Tuesday 10/7, 3:03 PM CT
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in need of a receiving threat, and names being thrown around by Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune are that of future Hall of Famers Torry Holt and Tony Gonzalez.

Our View: Kaufman is delusional if he thinks Holt or Gonzalez will be traded to the Bucs. As bad as those teams are, trading what may be the most popular player on their respective teams would do far more harm than any draft pick could bring.
Kelly wants to practiceTuesday 10/7, 2:54 PM CT
Rookie wideout Malcolm Kelly said the pain in his left knee has subsided, and he wants to practice this week with hopes of playing on Sunday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: And why wouldn't he want to play? Kelly and the Redskins face the putrid Rams defense this week, which gives up an average of 245.8 passing yards per game.

Castille signedTuesday 10/7, 1:52 PM CT
The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed cornerback Simeon Castille to their practice squad, according to Bengals.com.

Our View: Castille was on the active roster, but waived in order to make room for linebacker Abdul Hodge. He made the team as an undrafted free agent.
Watson re-signedTuesday 10/7, 1:50 PM CT
As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals re-signed running back Kenny Watson on Tuesday, according to Bengals.com.

Our View: Watson was promised that by the team that he would be re-signed (which is against league policy), and that came to fruition. Cincinnati starts Chris Perry, but unless he stops fumbling, Perry may lose time to Cedric Benson and Watson.
Blackstock suspendedTuesday 10/7, 1:47 PM CT
Bengals linebacker Darryl Blackstock has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Blackstock claims he took an over-the-counter nutritional supplement which contained a banned substance. He will be eligible to return for the team's game Nov. 16 against the Eagles.
McCargo excused from practiceTuesday 10/7, 12:41 PM CT
Buffalo Bills defensive tackle John McCargo was excused from practice on Tuesday to tend to personal matters, according to BuffaloBills.com.

Our View: McCargo has been a bust since being drafted in the first round in 2006. Almost universally, pundits thought the pick was odd, and in that sense have been proven to be correct. He has not made a single tackle this season.
Andrews may not playTuesday 10/7, 12:29 PM CT
Eagles Pro Bowl offensive lineman Shawn Andrews is still having problems with his back, and he may not be able to play on Sunday, according to PhillyBurbs.com.

Our View: Andrews has been out since the middle of Week 2 with these back problems. There is no timetable for his return, and surgery is still one option.
Lawson hopes to playTuesday 10/7, 12:25 PM CT
49ers linebacker Manny Lawson's hamstring is healing, and he believes he is at 80 percent and hoping to play this week, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Lawson did not play Week 5 due to the malady. He has not lived up to his first-round draft status as a pass rusher, accumulating just 2.5 sacks in his three-year career, and two of those came in Week 2 of his rookie year. However, he is still just 24 years old and has a chance to turn it around.
Knapp to call playsTuesday 10/7, 12:22 PM CT
Oakland offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will be the one who is calling plays for the Raiders, taking over for the fired Lane Kiffin in that regard, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Knapp had previously called plays for the 49ers and Falcons. He may also be remembered as the coach who simply sat there as Terrell Owens lit into him during a game for not getting him the ball enough when T.O. was still with San Francisco.
Edwards misses practiceTuesday 10/7, 12:18 PM CT
As expected, Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards did not practice on Tuesday as he recovers from a concussion he sustained during Week 5, according to the AP.

Our View: Luckily for the Bills, they have a bye this week, which will give Edwards two weeks in which to recover. He was injured when Arizona Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson put a hit on him.
James is a hero in his own mindTuesday 10/7, 12:13 PM CT
Dallas linebacker Bradie James seems quite high on himself and his Cowboys teammates, according to the Dallas Morning News. "We come in here, and I guess everybody expects us to be some kind of superheroes, which in essence we kind of are, but man ... I come in here on Monday, and I'm trying to enjoy my win, and people are, like, beating us up," James said.

Our View: Superheroes? Really? Although we have to admit it would be entertaining to see the Cowboys play their games with a cape. James is a fine linebacker, and has amassed 26 tackles this year, but he may have gone just a bit too far with this one.
Morris to see more actionTuesday 10/7, 12:03 PM CT
Seahawks running back Maurice Morris will be back in the mix, getting carries, as he returns from a knee injury, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Morris' almost certainly means fewer carries for Julius Jones. However, Seattle coach Mike Holmgren did state that he is intent on getting the running game started, so it is possible both will get enough carries to be fantasy-worthy.
Scheffler probably won't playTuesday 10/7, 11:56 AM CT
Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler suffered a groin injury during Week 5 and it is unlikely he will suit up for the team's Week 6 contest, according to the Denver Post. "It's not looking like it," Scheffler said.

Our View: Should Scheffler's prognostication turn out to be accurate, Nate Jackson will start in his place. Jackson has four receptions, including one for a touchdown this season.
Royal likely outTuesday 10/7, 11:52 AM CT
Broncos rookie wide receiver Eddie Royal likely will not play in the team's Week 6 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Royal has a sprained ankle, and was on crutches after his team's Week 5 game against Tampa Bay. His absence would mean greater role for Darrell Jackson (if healthy) and Glenn Martinez.
Bengals, Titans break league rulesTuesday 10/7, 11:23 AM CT
The Tennessee Titans broke league rules by cutting and then promising to re-sign quarterback Chris Simms, and the Cincinnati Bengals will be in violation as well when they re-sign running back Kenny Watson as they promised, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View: The website explains that this is roster manipulation, and though it is common, the league does have rules against it. No word on any possible ramifications for either team.
Ruud says he'll playTuesday 10/7, 11:16 AM CT
Buccaneers linebacker Barrett Ruud is dealing with a sprained right knee, but maintains that he will play on Sunday, according to the Tampa Tribune. "It's a day-to-day thing, but I feel like I should be ready. A little soreness is no problem and that's what I've got right now," Ruud said.

Our View: Ruud is a very good player at linebacker, helping lead the Bucs to a scoring defense that ranks eighth in the NFL, as the club allows 18.8 points per game.
Tucker to start at right tackleTuesday 10/7, 11:03 AM CT
The Browns will lose one right tackle, but gain another this week, as Ryan Tucker, who has been out with a hip injury, will likely start at the position in place of Kevin Shaffer, who suffered a concussion last week, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View: Shaffer has suffered multiple concussions, and he is dealing with a broken hand as well. Thankfully for Cleveland, it coincides with Tucker's return to health.
Williams will not returnTuesday 10/7, 11:00 AM CT
Cowboys safety Roy Williams will remain out for the team's Week 6 contest against the Cardinals, acocording to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Williams busted his forearm Week 2, and has not played since. He may return to practice this week, but even if he does, he won't suit up.
Kosier remains outTuesday 10/7, 10:58 AM CT
Cowboys offensive lineman Kyle Kosier will not play Week 6 due to a sprain in his right foot, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Kosier, the team's starting left guard, has been out a total of four games this season due to the injury.
Newman can't shake groin injuryTuesday 10/7, 10:56 AM CT
Dallas cornerback Terence Newman may not be available Week 6 as he is still plagued by a groin injury that has bothered him since September, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Our View: Newman missed the team's Week 5 contest, but he has not bee right since the middle of September. More tests are being performed to try and determine the underlying cause of the malady.
Westbrook may not playTuesday 10/7, 10:50 AM CT
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will not decide until late in the week whether he will play Week 6, and claims that even if he does suit up, his action will be limited, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Now, do I want to be out there at 45 percent and take a hit and hurt this team more than help it? No. I would rather have Correll Buckhalter, a proven running back, a guy who can get the job done, carry the team," Westbrook said.

Our View: Westbrook has two broken ribs, an injury that can be very painful while being smashed into by a 250 lb. linebacker. We'll monitor his status and keep you informed.
Schaub will startTuesday 10/7, 10:45 AM CT
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, who missed the team's Week 5 game due to illness, should be at practice on Wednesday and start on Sunday, according to the Houston Chronicle. "Matt’s still a little weak, but he should be fine," coach Gary Kubiak said.

Our View: This comes a week after Sage Rosenfels almost single-handedly gave the game away to the Colts, foolishly making a diving attempt at a first down and getting spun like a top while losing the ball. Indy recovered and scored on the play. Rosenfels was stripped of the ball the very next series, leading to another Colts' score.
Stanley could be promotedTuesday 10/7, 9:10 AM CT
Rams wideout Derek Stanley could be promoted to the active roster from the practice squad due to injuries at the position, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Stanley is a burner who can also be used on returns. He holds no fantasy value, however, as he would more than likely just be a depth player.
Jennings will be fineTuesday 10/7, 9:07 AM CT
Seattle cornerback Kelly Jennings should be good to go this week after suffering a concussion during the team's Week 6 slaughter at the hands of the New York Giants, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Jennings is a solid corner, and the team would be even worse off without him, as they are currently the 25th ranked pass defense in the league.
Lions will reduce playbookTuesday 10/7, 8:34 AM CT
The Detroit Lions will simplify their offense in an effort to give the team a spark, and will not use the no-huddle look again, according to the Detroit Free-Press. "It's the same offense, but we've already scaled back a lot, and still we're not getting it done. I don't know if scaling back's the answer. I mean, I really don't know," said receiver Mike Furrey.

Our View: This change comes one week after the team said they were going to open up the offense. Head coach Rod Marinelli is in trouble, and if he does not find a way to win, could see himself in the same boat as Lane Kiffin and Scott Linehan: without a job.
Savage waivedTuesday 10/7, 8:30 AM CT
Saints defensive end Josh Savage was waived by the team, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Savage was on the practice squad early in the season before being promoted. If he is not claimed, it is possible the Saints will re-sign him.
Harrington releasedTuesday 10/7, 8:28 AM CT
Less than a week after signing with the team, the New Orleans Saints released quarterback Joey Harrington, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View: Harrington was released in order to make room on the roster for players who might actually be used. He had no fantasy value before this, and won't have any if he gets signed to another team.
Harris will playTuesday 10/7, 8:09 AM CT
Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris will be in the lineup Week 7 when the team takes on the Atlanta Falcons, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: The Bears didn't seem to have any problems without the suspended Harris last week, but that was against the hapless Lions.
Garcia may get the callTuesday 10/7, 8:04 AM CT
Jeff Garcia may be back in at quarterback in Tampa Bay for the injured and struggling Brian Griese, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Griese had all of 88 yards passing last week, and is nursing a sore shoulder, so Garcia may get the call against Carolina. Do not expect huge fantasy production if he does return.
Frost on short leashTuesday 10/7, 8:01 AM CT
After Green Bay cut punter Jon Ryan in favor of Derrick Frost in the preseason, it seems that Frost may not be long for the team, as the Packers brought in four punters for a workout, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.

Our View: Frost, who was upset that the Redskins released him in favor of a rookie during training camp, has not performed well in Green Bay.
Childress unhappy with KluweTuesday 10/7, 7:58 AM CT
Vikings coach Brad Childress was none too pleased with punter Chris Kluwe for kicking the ball to Reggie Bush Monday night, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "When you say to somebody kick the ball out of bounds, that's what you expect to happen. That's what I expect to happen with a professional football kicker. You know what? If he can't do that, I'll find someone that can kick the ball out of bounds," Childress remarked.

Our View: Kluwe said after the game that he thought he did well, even though Bush scored twice on punt returns. It may be good for his future employment to do what the coach says from here on out.
Bulger throws wellTuesday 10/7, 7:52 AM CT
Quarterback Marc Bulger had a good day of practice on Monday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "He threw balls that ... he looked like he was on fire today. When his mechanics are good and he feels like he has time and can step up, he's probably about as good as you can find in the business," Rams coach Jim Haslett said.

Our View: Bulger has looked shaky this season as the team's offensive line has imploded around him. He can be useful for fantasy purposes if he has adequate protection, but that has not been the case this season.
Bennett could be back soonTuesday 10/7, 7:50 AM CT
Drew Bennett could be back with the team Week 7, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has been out since breaking a bone in his foot during the team's opening game.

Our View: Bennett has been an enormous bust since signing a free agent contract with the Rams. He has little fantasy value unless he proves he can stay healthy and catch the ball consistently.
Burton practicingTuesday 10/7, 7:48 AM CT
Rams rookie wide receiver Keenan Burton returned to practice after missing the last four games due to knee surgery, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Burton, a fourth-round selection, likely won't be back this week, but could make his return to the team Week 7. He played well in the preseason, but still is not worthy of a spot on fantasy rosters at the moment.
McMichael has torn ligamentsTuesday 10/7, 7:45 AM CT
Along with a broken right leg, Rams tight end Randy McMichael has torn ligaments in the leg, which is why he will be out for the season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Had McMichael simply had a broken leg, there would have been a chance for him to play sometime later this season. Joe Klopfenstein will take McMichael's place in the starting lineup.
