Mickelson struggling in ScotlandThursday 7/10, 7:53 PM CT
Phil Mickelson has gotten off on the wrong foot at the Barclays Scottish Open this week, posting a score of 71 (E) in the first round of play at this week's European Tour event.

Our View: This tourney is serving as a preparation point for the coming Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, though it appears Lefty is going to have to work his way up if he hopes to continue his competitive practice into the weekend. Other scores of note include Ernie Els with the same 71-stroke score, Angel Cabrera carding a 65 (-6), Niclas Fasth with a score of 66 (-5), and a worrisome 72 (+1) by Adam Scott.
Perry one stroke back of early lead at John DeereThursday 7/10, 7:28 PM CT
Kenny Perry continues to shine on the lesser-known PGA stops this season, today registering an impressive 65 (-6) in his opening round at this week's John Deere Classic.

Our View: Perry has put full focus on tourneys such as this, looking to insure his spot on this year's US Ryder Cup team. He's logged two wins already, but a third would seal the deal... and it may even help heal some of the public dischord over his decision to skip the majors this season (though we doubt it as strong golf fans note the Ryder Cup, Perry's ultimate goal, is identified as a collection of the best and elite in the game, and Perry's wins have not come against that level of competition while he continues to skip those opportunities that offer such challenges).
Leaney withdraws from John DeereThursday 7/10, 6:14 PM CT
We have learned Stephen Leaney filed for early withdrawal from this week's John Deere Classic this morning just prior to starting his opening round.

Our View: The PGA has not listed a reason for his withdrawal, and with Leaney suffering through a frustrating campaign, we are not sure if he just needed a rest or if another emergency arose that forced him to pull out. He was replaced by John Morse in the field.
